Strong Like Me & Link Up On the Edge #83
If you missed my post last night, The Evolution of Love, you may want to hop back and read that now. Because that post triggered a pretty intense philosophical discussion with a very dear friend on the topic of strength and vulnerability which in turn inspired this post. And then this meme randomly appeared in my Instagram feed today… And of course, inspiration has this way of hitting me in the most unexpected ways. Actually this week, it has kind of been pelting me like a hail storm. I’m getting emotionally tired, in all honesty. Feeling a bit bruised and battered. But when the inspiration hits, no matter how exhausted…

The Evolution of Love
*This post is inspired by everyone I have ever known in my lifetime and everything I have ever loved. The concept of love is a tricky one, isn’t it? It changes throughout time with each and every relationship, with every new encounter and experience in our lives. As we grow and evolve and change, our entire understanding of the meaning of this word changes. It changes as the context changes, it changes as the object changes, it changes as the subject changes. It is both subjective and objective while at the same time being neither. It just keeps changing until we either begin to take it completely for granted and…

Women’s Heart Health Month & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #60
Although National Wear Red Day has passed (it was February 2), the entire month of February has been designated National Heart Health Month as a reminder for everyone to focus on their hearts and get their friends and families involved in this awareness initiative towards prevention. While National Heart Health Month is an American designated month of awareness, it is important to recognize that cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, is the leading cause of death worldwide. Heart disease knows no boundaries and can strike anyone anywhere in the world. In an effort to do our part in raising awareness, Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood, with her kind heart…

Forever Fierce 2018: Midlife Women on Being Fierce
Have you heard…there has been a revolution afoot amongst an empowering group of midlife women. This revolution was spearheaded by the very inspiring Catherine Grace O’Connell, who one year ago implemented an organic grassroots campaign called The Fierce 50. The response was so overwhelming and women from ages 35 and beyond wanted to be a part of the evolution of this most powerful movement. As a result, this Midlife Revolution has changed its name and identity to Forever Fierce and it is nearly 5,000 women strong just one year after its beginning. For the past year, the group has been empowering women in midlife and beyond to use their voices…

Guest Post: The Dos and Don’ts of Finding the Perfect Wedding-Day Shoe
The Dos and Don’ts of Finding the Perfect Wedding-Day Shoe Guest post by Georgia Selih Every bride has a long list of things she needs to take care of before the wedding and somewhere in the middle of that list is her wedding outfit. Now, while the dress might be an ordeal all for itself, you can’t neglect the other parts that will complete the look: the veil, the gloves, the jewelry and, of course, the shoes. Buying shoes for the wedding day might not be the easiest task, so here is a smart list that will guide you through the process. DO: Match them with your dress Even though…

Get BetterHelp and Find Your Happiness & Link Up On the Edge #82
I am very excited and so honored to be able to announce a new partnership here at Shelbee on the Edge. If you have been following me for some time or know me personally, then you are familiar with the story of my mental health journey which has brought me to this amazing place where I sit right now…healthy, happy, and ready to help others on their journeys in any way that I can. By sharing my story and all of it’s ugliness, all of my failures and dark places, and how I managed to save myself from that darkness, gives me the sense that my struggle was not in…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book
Introduction to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book It’s been a year since Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after a year has passed, we decided to change the series a bit. The final Bad Buy Book post was one month ago today where we…

The Chapter Book My Children Love & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #59
There is a chapter book that my children have recently discovered. I use the term “discovered” loosely, as I essentially said, “Hey, kids, we are going to read this book. Mommy went to school with the author and illustrator and I think you will really like his drawings and the story.” I have had this book since it is original publication in 2009 before I even had children. I read it myself then, laughing all the way through at the irony and sarcasm while being in awe of the amazing comic book style artwork that adorns nearly every page. The combination of chapter book and comic book is a unique…

The Fine Line Called Friendship
Friends are a necessary part of life. Friendships are a required human relationship among social and communal beings. Few can get through the journey of life without having friends. The amount of friends we acquire in life is unique to each individual. Just as unique as the type of friendships we develop with different people. Certain types of friends are temporary, serving a specific purpose at a precise point in our lives. Other types of friends are much more permanent, remaining steadfast throughout all of the changes we each endure in a lifetime. Even the permanent types of friends may come and go, being more present at certain times and…
