I admit it. I am a thief. I have been stealing Ts anywhere I can find them. Ever since the T on my laptop keyboard quit responding to the gentle tap-tap-tapping of my fingertips, I have been forced to copy and paste the letter T every single time I need one. And you know what? We use a lot of Ts in the English language so I am becoming quite an expert at letter larceny. No Ts are safe from my copy and paste game. I will steal them from Google, from news articles and Facebook posts, from email messages, from your websites and from my own. Whatever window happens to be open on my laptop screen while I am typing is where I will find the Ts I need.

I mostly only need your little Ts though because I did set up a keyboard shortcut code for the capital T. The ironic thing about a shortcut code in this situation is that it is not shorter than just typing the letter you need. Now when I need a capital T, I actually have to type 2 characters, hit the space bar to make the capital T appear, and then delete one space so the next letter following the capital T is right where it should be. Because I need so many more little Ts, if I copy and paste one I can then use the “command+V” not-so-shortcut to paste the little T where I need it. So now my typing pattern consists of “command+V” whenever I need a tiny T. It really is quite tedious but I am becoming adept at this pattern of getting Ts where I need them.

However, I cannot continue this way for much longer. I knew the time was coming when I would need to replace this reliable old MacBook but I was hoping to make it through the year at least before dishing out a few thousand dollars for a new device. My laptop is coming up on almost a decade of life and it can no longer handle system updates. And apparently it is so old that Apple refuses to even try to fix my broken T. In the Geek Squad’s feeble attempt to fix my sticky T, they managed to also break off the key completely. So the time has come, the time is now, this girl needs a new computer so I can put an end to my T heisting days!

Look how it taunts with its eerie glowing light.

But now I find myself in a bit of a conundrum. I plan on remaining with Apple products because all of our family devices are Apple products so it just makes sense from a convenience perspective. Not so much from a budget perspective. But the price tag is a necessary evil, I suppose, if I want my own Ts back. It’s kind of like posting bail money to be released from jail for stealing Ts in the first place!

With Apple products, I have three choices for my needs. I can stick with what I know and get the newest version of the MacBook Pro. I currently have a 13.3” MacBook Pro. The same one is about $1,900. They are also available in 14” for $2,200 and 16” for $2,500. I can opt for less expensive with the MacBook Air which runs about $1,100 for a 13” screen and $1,500 for a 15” screen.

While the larger screen sizes are appealing to me with these old eyes, they have much less memory than the MacBook Pros. My third option is to go way outside of my comfort zone and get an iPad Pro with a keyboard attachment. The largest iPad screen is 12.9” so not much smaller than my current 13.3” screen. I can work with that size even with my old eyes. The iPad Pro runs for about $1,400, the keyboard is $350, and I would need a lap desk for working on my couch for about $50. So the iPad Pro would cost a total of $1,800 which is $100 less than replacing my laptop with the same one and provides significantly more memory.

So I am torn between something familiar and something new. MacBook Pro or iPad Pro? My kids have had iPads basically since the beginning of their lives, but I never really used one. So I am feeling a little bit intimidated by that option but I also am feeling like I might be up for the challenge of something new.

If you have any suggestions or recommendations, I would love to hear them. I am going to wait until after we return from Smoked Country Jam next weekend so I will definitely be reading your feedback before I make my purchase. Thanks so much in advance!

As for my outfit, it is just another day in my bohemian life, flitting around in maxi dresses and dusters, cowgirl boots and hats. I am still having a wild love affair with the color teal which seemed fitting for this post since I need the damn T to type the colors of my clothing.

You have seen many of these wardrobe pieces before because I have been trying to wear what I own instead of buying more. I don’t always succeed, however, and I did purchase this teal maxi dress at Torrid earlier in the season. I love the way it coordinates with this old floral kimono in a lighter shade of teal. I had worn this dress and duster together a few weeks earlier and never had the chance to photograph it. For the first iteration of this outfit, I wore my new bucket hat with the elephants, my black floral cowgirl boots, and a black belt. But when I was putting it on a second time for photographs, I decided I liked the lighter colored accessories for the springtime weather and it allowed me to bring out my favorite hat of all my hats once again. Speaking of my favorite hat, check out this cute little display I made for it in my bedroom.

That’s it. That’s all I’ve got. I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend and may your Ts be safe from me soon!

I LOVE that teal maxi dress! I am kind of amazed that you’ve been stealing/pasting t’s because that sounds very tedious. Sadly I have never owned an i anything so I have zero advice for you, but something tells me you’d adapt pretty well to whatever device you decide to get.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Joanne! I love this dress so much, too. I am leaning toward the iPad instead of a MacBook because I really like the touch screen option which I cannot get in a laptop. The only non-Apple device we have is Ralph’s HP laptop but that thing has required about a dozen trips to the Geek Squad in just a few short years and the screen currently won’t turn on. We took it for diagnostics twice and each time it worked fine for the Geek Squad and they can find absolutely nothing wrong with it. But as soon as we bring it home, the screen doesn’t work again. So frustrating! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

I can’t believe you’ve been copying and pasting your t’s! What a tedious process! You could try installing Grammarly. The spell check might be able to auto-correct for you to speed it up. Anyway, this has to be one of my favorite outfits on you. Love the color of your dress and your boho styling! Thank you so much for the feature!

Aw, Jill, thanks so much! So Grammarly and auto-correct are helpful, but not so much when a T is missing. If I leave the T out of commonly used words like this, that, the, there, then, them, their, table, ton, tone, it won’t correct because you still have valid the words of his, ha, he, here, hen, hem, heir, able, on, one. If my Q or X or Z were broken, this would be much less of a problem! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

Such a cute look! When my macbook pro died, I purchased a Ipad (without the keyboard) but I really didn’t like it for blogging, so now I just use it for travel. I then purchased a IMac destop because like you, my eyes are getting old and I love the bigger screen. It’s worked great for many years, no issues whatsoever .

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Amy, thanks so much! I am actually leaning more toward the iPad because I do still have the MacBook which works for all other things except for typing Ts. I love the idea of the larger desktop but I like to work from my couch so I need something more portable. And now I am wondering if I could just attach a new keyboard to my MacBook and keep her going for a little while longer! Haha

Thanks so much, Pamela! I often wonder what would happen if technology just went away. I always find it a bit astonishing when computer systems go down, people literally do not know how to function. It is really scary, indeed!

Ha! You sneaky little t thief! 🤣🤣🤣

I use my iPad Pro exclusively – and without an external keyboard. I just need something that will go anywhere and can sit in my lap. But it is a bit of an adjustment when you’re used to full fingered typing – as opposed to the two fingered typing I do now. (Or one fingered typing when Valentino demands to be square in my lap.) But the additional keyboard would give you options. (I had one, and eventually quit using it because I don’t have a dedicated blogging space in my house.) About the only thing I can’t do on my iPad is my taxes and use a quilting program that now resides on my husband’s Mac Book.

I suggest that when you go to look, you try the iPad with and without the keyboard. While I love my iPad because I can tote it around anywhere, if you like having a dedicated writing station, you can’t go wrong with either the iPad or the MacBook.

And I love this outfit! Trying to add more maxis to my closet. I love them. The hat is amazing. I know you’ve shared it before, but I love seeing it every time. Beautiful!

Michelle, thank you so much for both the compliment and the feedback on devices! I really am leaning toward the iPad with a keyboard attachment. I absolutely cannot type a blog post just using the iPad keys. Nope. No way! I like the touch screen option with the iPad as well. And I will still have my MacBook with the broken T which functions just fine except that I have to steal Ts!

Love you in this tonal teal outfit! The rich textured layers and accessories seem so true to your style. Plus I want those floral cowgirl boots! Hope you have a wonderful time at The Country Jam this year, it seems like great fun. I have had pretty good luck with all of my iproducts, except the sudden, unexpected death of my old MacBookPro right at the begininng of Covid. It was the worst possible timing. Also, thanks so much for the favorite feature. Thanks for sharing and have a goo week!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Di! I added a link to the boots in the post. They are still available! I have had both these and the black ones for years and I always get so many compliments on them. And they are super comfortable, too, but I would recommend going up at least a half size from your regular size. The fit is a tiny bit snug. I have to wear really thin socks to prevent pinching. I appreciate the Apple feedback, too!

What a challenge you’ve had with your out-of-service t key. The picture of the glowing space on your keyboard is priceless. Even so, you’ve managed to persevere in your own indomitable way. All with stylish flair and a smile on your face. My choice for new technology would be to go big unless you already are set up with a 2nd screen/monitor. 5 years from now, your eyes will thank you.

Oh my goodness, thanks so much, Rena! I have definitely persevered through this broken T business! It is a big purchase that requires some thought so I had to figure out something in the meantime and stealing Ts seemed like the easiest solution. Hahaha. I like the idea of the biggest screen, but I don’t like losing the portability of a laptop or iPad. I am leaning more in the direction of the iPad right now because my laptop is still functional with a broken T. And I will probably need a new device in 5 years anyway! I hope you have a most wonderful weekend!

How much can a person talk about one letter! For crying out loud, woman! Lol. I can’t help you with that, I’m a android person. But you are wearing gorgeous colours! Enjoy your weekend.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Lydia! I have had these boots for quite a few years but they are still available through the link I provided. I get so many compliments on them every time I wear them! I recommend ordering a half size up though if you ever go for it!

I thought for sure I was going to be reading a post about band tees! When my grandson was little, he used to pull the keys off the keyboard. And, now that I think about it, I do think the only keys that we couldn’t get to work anymore were the T and the E! I have absolutely no advice to give on a computer. I have an old Lenovo ThinkPad my son “outgrew.” I have no idea how old it is, but I don’t know what I will do when it goes kaput! I like having a laptop better than using an iPad, though. I love your teal outfit…it is fabulous in every way, shape and form!

Thanks for the link party! Enjoy the Smoked Country Jam!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you so much, Marsha! I am giggling because I don’t even know what a Lenovo Think Pad is! I am leaning towards the iPad right now but only because I do still have my laptop which works fine except for the T! Gahhh. This decision is way more difficult than I anticipated! I hope you have a lovely weekend!

I’ve never used an ipad so no advice there but my macbook has been giving me issues too! It always doubles certain letters, which is super annoying. I also love your outfit! that colors looks amazing on you!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Lizzie! I am noticing that a few other letters are starting to stick on my keyboard now with a few that will type duplicates. The T was doing that before it broke completely. It would either not type a T or 5 in a row would spew out!
