Today, I Wept
Today, I wept. This morning, my college swim coach shared the news of this story on our team’s alumni Facebook page. He shared it because the husband and father of the victims was a member of our team and a member of my graduating class. And while I have not “known” him in 20 plus years, today my heart broke for him. I quickly shared the Go Fund Me Fundraiser on my Facebook page because in that moment I wasn’t really sure what else to do. A few hours later as I was walking to pick up my youngest son from preschool, I was lost deep in thought wondering what…

Ditch Your Bra & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #77
I know, I know, it seems as if I have been touting Ruby Ribbon camis for months now. I want to be clear though, I am not a Ruby Ribbon stylist so my interest in sharing their products is merely to share a product that I think is fabulous! After wearing the full camis for a few months now, I wanted to try one of the demiettes for the warmer weather. So recently, my friend Carol sent me the Original Demiette to try. *This is not a sponsored post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. I have to say that I love it! I have been…

Sharing My Flashlight: The Power of Our Experiences
Recently, I have been making some major adjustments in my life. I have been restructuring my daily routine, creating new and better habits, making healthier choices physically and mentally, eliminating toxicity from all facets of my life, and taking the time I need for self-care which includes quiet time, relaxing time, and fun time. It is an evolution of sorts that was prompted by my own experiences. I suppose we all make changes in response to our experiences. Experience does have that kind of power. The power to force change. *This is not a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. We are meant to learn from…

Shelbee Says…”Stay confident and strong in the truth of who you are.”
“Dear Shelbee, When I return to school in the fall, I will be returning as a transgender male. All of my classmates will have known me through eighth grade as a girl. I was home schooled this past year. When I return to school I know there will be many who will be giving me a very hard time about the change. I am sure there will be some teasing and bullying. What is the best course of action for me to take to deal with this? Do I fight back, ignore, or come up with something to quiet their taunts?” -Transitioning with Trepidation How to Handle School Bullies while…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-June 2018-All About Gingham
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book! Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A year ago, Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after a year has passed, we decided to change the series a bit. You can choose whether you want to show…

Vampirina Vibes & Link Up On the Edge #98
Have you ever just thrown on an outfit randomly with mere comfort in mind and it turns out to be a hit without even thinking about it? This happened to me a few weeks ago. I was feeling in the mood for the ease of a dress. It was a little cool out so I grabbed this long sleeve black dress that I bought on Target clearance last year. I love the soft lightweight crepe fabric, the dramatic bell sleeves, and the loose fit because it provides me with ease, comfort, and style all at once with very little effort. I was going to wear sandals, but like I said…

Get a Boost & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #76
Many of you probably remember my post back in December, Big Boobs in the City, when I spent my very first girls’ weekend away in New York City with my best friend of 30 years. But it wasn’t just any girls’ weekend. We were invited to be models for Sandra Mimran Smith’s launch campaign for Boostwr, her fabulous line of supportive loungewear. I also shared some pictures from the photo shoot and other product details about Sandra’s groundbreaking loungewear in my post, Give Yourself a Boost, back in January. *This is not a sponsored post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. And now, I want to let you…

My New Living Room Tree from Commercial Silk
I don’t know if any of you remember this post from January where I mentioned leaving my Christmas tree up with just the lights all year round and calling it my “living room tree” instead. I really liked the ambience created by the soft white tree lights in the early morning hours while I drank my coffee on the couch. But the tree was taking up quite a bit of room and as Spring started nearing and the sun was rising earlier, we eventually did take down the living room tree (some time in March, I think). But I had been wanting to add a small lighted topiary of some…

Beautiful Train Wrecks & Link Up On the Edge #97
As the fashion world is grieving the recent loss of the beautiful Kate Spade, I wanted to take a moment to pay tribute to her and send my condolences to all of her friends and family. I also wanted to take this opportunity to once again open the discussion on the topic of mental illness, specifically Bipolar Disorder and Depression. It is a serious issue and one that is very close to my heart. It shows no mercy and it does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, or status. And it takes lives. Every day. Wonderful, amazing, exquisite, rich lives. Lives that for some reason feel dark and tortured…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-All About Gingham
In just one week, Nancy and I will be posting the fourth edition of The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book and we would love for you all to join us! The theme for June is Gingham! Gingham is a timeless classic that is always popular in Spring and Summer. To me, gingham is sort of like an easy spring afternoon. Like a leisurely stroll through a flower garden. Like a nostalgic time that has long gone. Like a fresh, airy breeze. Like a genuine smile. Like a sincere compliment. Like uncomplicated innocence. Like sunshine. Like lemonade. Like spontaneity. Like purity. Like perfect ennui. Since both Nancy and I are huge fans of…
