Winter Break & Link Up On the Edge #183
Every year during the week of President’s Day, my kids have a winter break from school. I am realizing that this is sort of unique to Northern New York as most other school districts only have Christmas break and Spring break. When you add in this third long break during the school year, the end result is that my kids don’t finish for the summer until the very last week of June. However, I have to say that I don’t mind this mid-winter recess because winters here in the North Country are long and cold and those old winter blues begin to take hold some time around Thanksgiving (yes, before…

Inspired by A Labour of Life: Old Navy Checks
There are not too many blogger friends in my circle who can relate to the weather struggle when it comes to styling cute outfits and staying warm in heaping piles of snow. But Linda of A Labour of Life, my Canadian friend, who lives just 2 hours directly north of me in Ottawa, gets it. She really does understand the insanity that is the winter weather up in this part of the world. But not only does she relate to my weather struggles, she also possesses very similar sartorial tastes as mine. I know that we shop at many of the same places including Shoe Dazzle, Old Navy, and Target.…

The Basics of Wedding Dress Accessorizing
With spring peeking through the clouds and cold, we are getting hints that wedding season is just around the corner. And with Valentine’s Day this weekend, there may be many a wedding proposal already in the works. Many newly engaged brides in the planning process for the big day will soon be scouring the internet for ideas to make the day perfect. And for most, their wedding ensemble is the most important starting point. You may think that finding the right gown to wear is the end of your wedding day fashion journey, but that is most definitely not the case. Many brides-to-be find themselves seeking accessories that will make…

I Get by With a Little Help from My Friends & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #160
I get by with a little help from my friends. Sometimes I need more help than other times. Sometimes I need less. Sometimes I don’t want any help at all. And sometimes I may not survive without the help. Sometimes I am strong enough to ask for help. Other times, I am too weak to admit that I might need help. I have the ability to reach out, isolate, hide away, seek assistance, talk it through, deny it all, help myself, and wake up the next day with a new found perspective. Sometimes I can get caught in a vortex of negativity while other times I can sit on the…

Eggplant Inspiration & Link Up On the Edge #182
I know I talk about inspiration often, probably too often, but I guess it is our inspiration that gets us out of bed in the morning, pushes us to be creative, pulls at us to make a statement, motivates us to do things, something, anything. It could be as simple as what you are going to wear today. It could be something as monumental as how you plan on changing the world. Whatever it is, we find our inspiration all around us and sometimes in the very unlikeliest of places. Like produce. You know, fruits and vegetables. Now I suppose if you are inspired to create a new recipe from…

Inspired by Is This Mutton?: Bowie Tee
Just last week, Gail of Is This Mutton? published a post, Every Day Outfits-Casual and Work, where she shared a super cool look featuring a Bowie tee shirt paired with all black and a fun pair of statement boots. As soon as I saw her Bowie tee shirt, I was reminded of a similar one that I had forgotten about and had never worn yet. So I took Gail’s post as a sign that I needed to get on styling with my Bowie tee shirt. I mean, who doesn’t love David Bowie? I am pretty sure just the mention of this man’s name or hearing a few chords of any…

Ayr Skin Care Review: Pure Moisture Nourishing Face Cream
I have been wanting to share this new face cream that I have been using recently to combat the damage that the icy cold North Country winters bring upon my skin. I was experiencing incredibly dry skin on my face with lots of redness cropping up in response to the dry, cold air. I have been applying a small amount of the Ayr Skin Care Pure Moisture Nourishing Face Cream to my face every night after cleansing for the past week. *This is not a sponsored post. I was gifted this product for review on social media and I have fulfilled that obligation. I just wanted to share the product…

Surviving Grief & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #159
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the blogging world is inundated with so much cuteness in love themed everything from heart motifs on sweaters and tee shirts, jewelry inscribed with words of love, and gift guides for all of your favorite Valentines. But for me, at least this year, Valentine’s Day weighs me down heavy with grief. But not my own grief. The grief of my child. If you recall last year on Valentine’s Day, my community suffered a great tragedy when an entire family was lost in a house fire. (I mentioned it briefly here and here). One of the children was a friend and classmate of Archie’s. And while…

Radical Ralphie and Big Brother Archie: The Karate Kids
Radical Ralphie and his big brother Archie earned their next level karate belts this weekend. They have been enrolled at Premier Martial Arts in Watertown, New York, for almost a year and it is the one sport/activity that finally captured the interest of both boys. This mom was very happy that they both enjoy the same sport as it saves me a whole lot of running around. However, I do sit at the dojo for 2 1/2 hours every Monday and Wednesday night as they have different practice times for their different age groups. But it is a welcoming place that feels sort of like visiting family. I generally take…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Inspired or Copy Cat Looks
On February 15, Nancy and I will be celebrating three years of our collaborative effort to share Good and Bad Buys. We first began with The Bad Buy Book on February 15, 2017, and ran that series for one year. On February 15, 2018, we introduced The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book so you could choose whether you wanted to share a good or a bad buy for the accompanying monthly theme. To celebrate our three years of coming together once a month with this fun series, Nancy and I have created copy cat looks of one another which will be shared in our post on February 15, 2020. We invite you to share with us…
