The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Combat Pants

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and myself. Every month, we invite you to share a photo or two of your Good (or Bad) Buy items that fit the stated theme. We ask that you also provide a short description explaining if the item you are sharing was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to (formerly known as Bad Buys). Nancy and I will both publish a round up post featuring all of the submissions on the 15th of each month.

Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description via email. You do not have to be a blogger to join. Anyone is welcome! We will give you the theme for the next month at the conclusion of each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month.

The theme for March is Combat Pants, also called Cargo Pants or Utility Pants. You can even share shorts with cargo pockets or even dresses and skirts with combat details (like Nancy’s), I suppose. Maybe we should have expanded the theme to Cargo Bottoms or Things with Cargo Pockets! But as you know, we are not picky. A huge thanks to all the fabulous people who joined us this month. There were only a few, but we appreciate you!

*If you sent me a photo, but do not see it in my post, be sure to check Nancy’s post. If you don’t see your photo on either post, please let us know right away and we will add it. Sometimes the submissions can get lost in the shuffle.

“I already showed these trousers with another top and shoes on the blog a few weeks ago. Bought it recently. But I also love to wear it with burgundy and red. There are so many colours that I want to wear with these, like pink and yellow. I wore these combat trousers a lot already so I can say this is a Good Buy! And then to think I hated side pockets!”

“I’ve had these capri length cargo pants for so many years that I can’t even remember for how long but it’s got to be about 10 years. Nowadays, they are my go-to for beach attire as you see in this photo. It’s a little hard to tell but the pattern is a blue/gray based camo. This look, which I called beachcomber chic, appeared on my blog during the summer of 2020. They have survived several wardrobe purges so that qualifies them as a good buy.”

“I found these cargo pants while thrifting and couldn’t pass them up. They tickle my fancy being so bright colored. I’d definitely consider them a good buy!!”
-Jodie
Jamie, a reader
“This is my old pair of combat pants that I wore when hiking in the bush. These are perfect because they have feet in them preventing getting any tick or chigger bites which can be very nasty.”
-Jamie
And Me!
“I bought these dark gray cargo pants last year for my annual winter road trip and they are so comfortable and perfect for my casual lifestyle. I wore them a ton last year making them a very Good Buy. But I have not worn them at all this year, so maybe not such a Good Buy after all!”

A Dress with Cargo Pockets
“I wanted to also share this corduroy dress with cargo pockets. I bought this dress at Old Navy about 15 or 20 years ago and have worn it in steady rotation throughout that time. Definitely a Good Buy! But I think I purged it in my last closet clean out. Mostly because I don’t love the drop waist style anymore and the corduroy isn’t super stretchy making it not as comfortable as it could be. And I am all about all the comfort all the time these days!”
Up Next: Ballet Flats

You are invited to join us in April to share your favorite (or least favorite) Ballet Flats. You are welcome to send two photos if you’d like to be featured on both blogs. Remember to include a brief description about your submissions. Please submit your photos and descriptions by the 10th of April to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com so we can put you in the spotlight.

*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for this series.

Well, I took you literally and have no cargo pants.
DO have tops with pockets! Oh well…

Enjoyed seeing all the interpretations… especially Jamie’s! Heehee.

Oh goodness, never take me literally, Anne! I even say that in the beginning of these posts! Haha. We are very flexible with interpretations around here. That’s what makes it so fun! If you send me a shirt with some cargo pockets, I will add it in!

After reading all the comments, it got me thinking…
A top with lots of pockets is more commonly known as a Safari style, not a Cargo style.
And therein lies all our confusion and lack of contributions.

I’m surprised there weren’t more entries with the cargo pants. But I love how they are making a comeback on the fashion scene.
I love how you included a cargo dress too Shelbee…always good to think outside the box, And thanks for the feature at the top.

Thanks so much, Jodie! It is a bit surprising that we didn’t have more people play along for this one. We probably should have made it broader and went with cargo styles not just pants. Oh well, it was still fun! Everyone looks fabulous in their combat/cargo styles.

I was a little surprised, too, Rena. Thank you so much for joining us! I do love big cargo pockets, too, but I don’t have very many cargo pants. We should have maybe made the theme a little broader to incorporate all things cargo.

SO many cute cargo looks! I used to have loads and loads of cargo pants but mostly and down to a few cargo capris for spring and summer now and have somehow not replaced any of the pants as I’ve gone down in size. I also don’t own a single pair of ballet flats– I keep trying them on but just do not like how they look and feel on me’ but I look so foward to seeing what everyone else comes up with !!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Joanne! I was surprised that we didn’t get more cargo pants for this one! I actually have a lot of ballet flats that I never wear. I am going to use this post as an opportunity to clean them out, I think! Maybe I will take a bunch of photos before ditching most of them! Stay tuned…

You didn’t actually purge that great looking corduroy dress with the pockets did you? I realize corduroy has no stretch to it but where will you ever find another corduroy dress with front pockets like the one your wearing in your photo? The dress looks great on you and the pockets are a huge plus when it comes to dresses. Maybe I will come across it in a Thrift shop some day.
