My Humble Writings on New York Fashion Week

Recently, I added a freelance writing gig to my already very busy blogging schedule, but I do love to write and I really love to get paid for my words! I mean, who doesn’t like a paycheck in exchange for doing something that you already love doing? So I began doing some writing for a website called Gorgeous Girl. I have been contributing articles on fashion, beauty, and skin care and dabbling a tiny bit in the realm of celebrity news (that is not really my thing, but I gave it a try anyway).

During New York Fashion Week, my content editor asked me to cover some of the runway shows. At first, I was curious as to how I would do that effectively just reading articles on other sites as they post. But then I discovered the live stream on the NYFW official website. Being able to sit in the comfort of my own living room, not worried about what I was wearing at all (in fact, I did most of this writing in my jammies), I watched a few runway shows just like I was sitting in the front row in NYC.

I wrote reviews of 5 separate runway shows that have been published at Gorgeous Girl and I would love for you, my loyal readers, to check them out if you will. It was a completely different style of writing for me, but through the process of it, I realized that I really loved it. I loved creating imagery with my words that correlated to the designs that I was viewing. Some collections I loved, some were okay but just not my style, and one I really did not like at all but I tried to give some focus to the pieces that I did adore. NYFW: JOHN ELLIOT MAINTAINS HIS CULT ICON STATUS IN FASHION

“Bringing the classics in casual wear with a semi gender-neutral appeal to the runway, John Elliot has created a collection of basics for every person in everyday life. The play with proportions has added a modern appeal to an otherwise simple compilation of both men’s and women’s apparel. Layering cropped pieces over longer ones and longer pieces over shorter ones create a visual interest that is unique and edgy while providing a seemingly endless versatility to each design. A cropped bomber jacket over a knee-length dress is youthful and sassy while an asymmetrical tunic paired with cropped trousers is whimsically fun with a side edginess.”

NYFW: BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK THAT WILL LEAVE YOU BLUSHING WITH CHIARA BONI LA PETITE ROBE

“In keeping with her early punk rock roots, this collection is filled with glorious pieces in body contouring blacks with the most creative and eye-catching details in glittery belt buckles, corset style waistbands, and double exposed zippers which seem to invite romantic advances of the more illicit sort all while remaining demure and innocent in a constant incongruity of intentions. Enter menswear-inspired pieces subtly graced with the faintest of pinstripes and the mildest of plaids in form-fitting pantsuits and waistcoats that scream, ‘I am woman. I am powerful. I am strong. And I am sexy.'”

NYFW: LEANNE MARSHALL PAYS HOMAGE TO HER PROJECT RUNWAY WAVE COLLECTION

“Perhaps the most stunning of all the pieces in this collection, however, is the final gown to drift down the runway. A majestic floor length frock in vibrant chartreuse adorned with the most spectacular detailing on the skirt that is reminiscent of a magnificent bird of paradise. An observer may find themselves gasping at the sight of such exquisite loveliness. A vision that will surely brighten any event. A sight that will cause all heads to turn and say, ‘What is that magical creature?'”

NYFW: THE GENIUS OF MARCEL OSTERTAG LIES IN THE UNEXPECTED

“But one does not want to fall into the trap of believing that familiar means commonplace or boring because the new Marcel Ostertag collection shouts boldly, ‘You may think you know who I am, but don’t be fooled.’ The traditional silhouettes are intensified with billowy ruffles and uniquely structured bows crafted from luxurious satins and shimmery metallics paired with practical knits of the most vibrant hues and plush fibers.”

NYFW: A DISCORDANT DELIVERY BY ESTEBAN CORTAZAR

“Considering all the commotion that fills the air among Cortazar’s new collection, there is one perfectly melodic lyric that stands boldly on its own, singing louder and prettier and more sonorously than all the rest. And that is in the luxurious sweet sound of the elongated silhouette of a tailored blazer in the most perfect shade of rich blue velvet. So while the orchestra may have been improperly directed, this one amazing cadenza can embrace the solo honor of receiving a standing ovation.”

I would love to hear your thoughts on my runway reviews. You can leave comments here or on the articles themselves at Gorgeous Girl. And if this is how I can participate in NYFW next time around, I totally will! Right from my living room, in my comfiest clothes, away from the crowds, and with all the amenities of home right at my fingertips.

And if I were ever so compelled to actually attend a Fashion Week in person, I very well may wear this black beaded kimono outfit!
