Memorial Day Outfit & Your Own Twist Link Up #8

This is not a sponsored post.

It’s time again for Your Own Twist with Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart. Monica and I decided to host a fun link up once a month (since we are both super crazy busy so why not add more projects to our calendars)! On the third Thursday of every month, we will host the Your Own Twist Link Up with the goal of inspiring some of our fashionista friends out there. The idea behind this collaboration is to take one common piece or theme and style it our own way with our own twist. Monica and I have both taken a lot of fashion inspiration from one another over the past few years even though we have totally different styles. It is always fun to see how we can interpret similar items in unique ways. We will let you know the themes well in advance in the event that you would like to use the theme for your own post and add it to the link party. However, any fashion posts are welcome regardless of whether you used the theme or not.

With Memorial Day weekend coming soon, we decided to showcase our outfit ideas for holiday barbecues. I am hoping for some nice weather to arrive next weekend as we are hosting a party at our house. It would be nice to be able to spend some time outdoors. It will also be nice to be able to send all the children outside to expend their energy that is being pent up with all the cold rain we have been experiencing.

So let me talk about my outfit for a minute. For me, Memorial Day calls for patriotic colors. I was going to add a splash of red into my blue and white outfit, but then I was kind of liking the muted shades paired with a darker denim and a tan belt bag. Because sometimes understated is better. And as patriotic as I can be, I also don’t really want to look like a walking American flag.

Jacket and Belt Bag: Torrid
Pants and Top: Old Navy
Sneakers: Converse

I am getting a little bolder in my old age with showing a tiny bit of midriff. It makes me feel a bit sassy even while wearing feminine floral and pastel gingham with white eyelet sneakers. I also like a bit of edge in my outfits, so I added a trendy belt bag and military style denim jacket. And the best part (since I just spent two days purging my closet) is that every piece (except the belt bag) are old pieces that have been hanging around my closet for quite some time.

So you can see that it is easy to shop your closet and still create on trend outfits for any occasion. My only problem with this outfit is that I needed more layers! The wind was so cold on my bare belly and ankles! Perhaps this outfit will be better suited for the Fourth of July! Maybe temperatures will hit 70 degrees by then. At least, I hope they do!

What will you be wearing for the Summer holidays? If you’d like to join the link party with a Memorial Day outfit, please do. Or any outfit at all will do! The style prompts for June and July are below as well. Be sure to head on over and check out Monica’s Memorial Day look, too.
