Last Summer’s Burnt Ochre Dress: Take 3 & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #759

This is actually take one…the very first outfit of three featuring this burnt ochre dress from last summer. I have shared the outfits in reverse chronological order, starting with the third look for a Style Imitating Art challenge last month, followed two weeks later by the second styling of this dress which I wore during our September date weekend in Troy, New York. During that same September weekend, I couldn’t decide which kimono robe I liked better as a topper for this fabulous orange dress, the black and red floral or the black butterfly print, so I photographed both. I wore this outfit at the hotel just for pictures and then I switched to the floral robe for the drive home.
If it isn’t obvious yet, this dress is one of my absolute favorite summer dresses because the silhouette is so flattering, the color is so eye-catching, and it is turning out to be a very versatile piece in my wardrobe. In fact, when I purchased this dress, I bought it in every available option except solid black (the Batik Suns print I have shared but the Retro Floral print has yet to be worn). I didn’t buy the solid black because I didn’t think I needed another long black summer dress.
Until I recently spotted the solid black one on clearance. Then I needed it. Now I have it. And I am actually wearing it right now as I am typing these words. I am wearing it with a beautiful pink peacock wrap that my mother-in-law sent to me for my birthday last week. I will eventually take pictures to share because I have worn the wrap three times already and have received the most lovely compliments each time. It truly is a stunning piece. But I will talk about that later when I show it to you!

For this first styling of my burnt ochre dress, I layered an old black kimono robe with a butterfly and floral print. I acquired this lovely topper piece through a brand collaboration way back in 2017 and I am still wearing it these 8 years later. Because the dress and robe make a statement on their own, all I really needed to finish the outfit was some accessories which include my big feather earrings, two sets of mala beads, my wooden owl necklace, my tree of life necklace, my orange Panama hat, and my dark green Furkenstocks. And just like that, I have created the perfect summer boho outfit. It is easy, comfortable, and looks good for just about any occasion.
It looks like the spring weather is finally here to stay. Just in time for the summer solstice. If I am not wearing my painting clothes, I will be wearing dress and robe combinations like this one all through the summer months. I am curious, what is your summer style aesthetic?

Here is a photo of all three outfits together. They are similar but different and they all make me happy. Do you have a favorite?

Shelbee, you burnt Ochre dress is so pretty on you! I love the color and the way you styled it with the kimono wraps When you find something that is so perfect for your style, I can understand why you would get it in every color available! Di, thanks so much! I am definitely one of those women who will buy multiples of something I love. I think I have the same tee shirt in about 20 different colors and the same leggings in 7 or 8 different colors and now this dress in 4 different colors. I hope you have a lovely weekend!

I love the shape of this dress, and would think it would also look great in Fall. For me, dresses of this length unfortunately make me trip all the time, so I never buy them. Even though I like them.

Thanks so much, Nicole! This dress would be great layered up for the fall. I frequently trip on my long dresses but usually only on stairs. The hazards of pretty clothes! If the length of dress is getting in my way, sometimes I will bunch up the hem and tie a big knot in it to make it shorter. And then no more tripping!

Thanks so much, my friend! It is such a great LOD, isn’t it?! I always buy multiples when I love something. Now I have this dress in all 4 options that were available. My favorite tee shirts I have in about 20 different colors! It’s a problem, I think. LOL.

The dress you mentioned sounds absolutely stunning, especially paired with the pink peacock wrap. It’s wonderful how a single piece of clothing can bring so much joy and confidence. Your summer style seems both elegant and comfortable, perfect for the season. I’m curious, how do you decide which outfits to pair together for different occasions?
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much! I don’t really have a decision process. I just follow wherever my creative muses lead me!
