Inspired by Jeans and a Teacup: Shirtdress over Jeans

This is not a sponsored post.

In my last post, I talked about being kind to yourself and accepting yourself with all of your flaws, faults, and insecurities. That post was triggered by an overall feeling of weariness and an ugly mood that I have been experiencing this past week. I was hoping it would have lifted by now, but unfortunately it has not. And when I get in these funks, all inspiration seems to go missing right along with my general happy go lucky demeanor. But I have become quite the master of fake it ’til you make it, so you may never know of my downright pissy attitude unless I tell you.

Except for my husband. He knows it all too well. God, I love him. He tolerates it with grace and dignity and so much love. I apologize profusely and explain to him that I am not being a bitch on purpose and I am trying ever so hard to make it stop, but the mood is just a little bit stronger than my positive self talk. So he caters to me in the most devoted way, then he leaves the room. Man, how I wish I could leave the room and get away from me as well!

Anyway, I have rambled on much too long about my funky-ass bad mood this week. And that is not the point of this post, nor the message I want on my blog. Prevail through it, that’s the message I want to share. And when I struggle like this, I look to my friends, real life and virtual, to inspire me. And this week, I have been inspired by Jessica of Jeans and a Teacup.

If you don’t already know Jessica, you should! She’s an east coat gal like myself, hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which is just a very short distance from my hometown of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. But we have both been transplanted many miles from home. She currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband and almost 2 year old son. Jessica has been blogging for seven years and I have been following her for the four years that I have been blogging. I have enjoyed watching her journey through pregnancy and now parenthood and her style always inspires me. Her style focuses on classic minimalism and French girl chic with a passion for ethical fashion. And recently she shared a fun post, 3 Ways to Style a Shirtdress, and I became obsessed with her green striped dress styled over white jeans. So I pinned it and returned to it for inspiration when I needed inspiration most. Pinterest is really good for that sort of thing!

Now I don’t have a green striped shirtdress (I wish I did), but I do have a black and white striped shirtdress which reminded me of Jessica’s dress. So on Tuesday, feeling quite unmotivated to get dressed, I decided I would follow Jessica’s lead and style my interpretation of her shirtdress over white jeans outfit.

Dress: Target
Jacket: Solitary Consignment
Jeans: Charlotte Russe

My dress is a bit shorter than hers and I tried some nude heels like she did. I loved the look of the nude heels, but it is still just too cold here for bare ankles (my car was covered in snow just yesterday morning) and they didn’t look quite right with tights. So I switched them out for nude booties instead. Of course, I needed a jacket as well because this is Spring in the North Country. Cold, windy, and still snowing.

Bralette: Torrid
Booties: Charlotte Russe

I also am without a photographer this week as my husband’s work schedule has become very hectic. He leaves the house before 6:00 a.m. and returns around 7:00 p.m. leaving me to my own devices, which are a tripod and remote for taking pictures. But they never quite turn out as good when I take the photographs myself. I think it is the whole smiling at the camera by myself with no one on the other side making me smile! But this is the life of a blogger and we do what we need to do to get the job done.

I hope you all are finding inspiration from one another as well! And I want to say thank you for uplifting me when I am feeling down and for your all around fabulousness! Keep shining, my friends!

I invite you to share with me in the comments what is keeping you inspired these days. I can use all the good positive energy and inspiring ideas that I can get!

Keeping it on the edge,
