An Easter Outfit for Winter Weather & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #801

Easter is supposed to bring images of spring, prompting us to dress accordingly in our favorite warm weather apparel in soft pastels or bright joyful colors. But what do you do when it’s still winter on Easter? Well, obviously, you make some wardrobe adjustments.

The most common colors used in Easter celebrations are purple, white, gold, and pastels. Since pastels are generally reserved for warm weather clothes, I leaned into bright, bold purples for my winter Easter outfit.

Traditionally, the color purple has been associated with royalty and power, but in the context of the Easter holiday, it symbolizes the divinity of Jesus. The color also represents penance which is a key element during the Lent season. Purple serves as a visual reminder of Jesus’s sacrifice while Christians prepare spiritually through reflection, prayer, and fasting.

So purple made sense when I decided to create an Easter outfit for winter weather. I shared these gorgeous purple velvet trousers two weeks ago with my new purple leather jacket and I really wanted to style them again before it gets too warm for velvet.

I kept the same base layer as the previous outfit with a fitted black turtleneck, a thrifted neckerchief, and my purple hand felted hat. Then I switched out the purple leather jacket for this gorgeous silk robe in purple with some hints of gold…the perfect Easter color combination. I shared this robe in a post about some of my favorite Christmas gifts and also mentioned it a few weeks ago after my cat peed on it! Since I watched the darn feline in the act, I was able to get the robe immediately into the washing machine before the stink set in and I am very happy to report that is clean and smelling nice!

The rest of my accessories include a pair of bronzy thrifted earrings, a thrifted sequined owl necklace (one of my favorite thrift store finds ever), and a very old pair of black patent Mary Janes.

Our local weather forecast for Easter Sunday indicates temperatures ranging from 34-61˚F (1.1-16.1˚C) with the real feel temperature settling between 24-51˚F (-4.4-10.6˚C) and a 90% chance of rain. Not exactly the best weather for lightweight lacy Easter dresses! I likely won’t wear this outfit to church on Easter Sunday, however, because I just wore it to church three weeks ago.

You might be surprised that I have been going to church at all since I have shared many blog articles about my religion. I even recently contributed an essay titled “Losing My Religion, Finding My Faith” to Suzy Turner’s new book, The Enchanted Midlife.

I have always been very open with my kids about my spiritual journey and have been clear with them that religion and your relationship with your higher power is so personal that no one can dictate your religious beliefs to you. You really have to figure it out for yourself. As a mother, I can only guide and support. So when my 14-year-old son Archer professed to me in December that he was a Christian believer and a follower of Jesus, I immediately supported him. He asked for a cross necklace for Christmas which of course I obliged. Then a few months ago, I gifted him a very special Bible that a dear friend had given to me over 35 years ago. He has been dedicated to reading it and even asked his English teacher if he could write his upcoming book report on the Book of Matthew. And finally, I started taking him to church a few weeks ago and we are both enjoying it immensely.

This Easter season has me overwhelmed with gratitude. Last Sunday, Archer attended a Catholic mass with his friends because he was curious and then they went on a hike together, ending their day at my house playing video games. How blessed am I that my teenage children and their friends choose to spend their weekends going to church and hiking?! I know that some of their peers are doing things that would make any parent’s heart cringe so I count my blessings every single day!

That is a very practical and attractive Easter outfit. I’ve given up on Easter dresses. Every year I picture myself in this gorgeous Easter dress, and every year it’s too cold to wear it. Although I still see women at Church on Easter Sunday wearing their Easter dreses, sandals, and going bare legged. Not for me! I think it’s wonderful your son found Jesus and you are going back to church and enjoying it!

Amy, thanks so much for your kind words. He went to Catholic mass last Sunday and he did not enjoy it so I think he is ready to settle in at our first church. I also had visions of a lovely Easter dress but it’s never going to happen as long as I live here! I hope you have a blessed Easter, my friend.

Oh wow, if I was your neighbour I would want to join you to church! You have fabulous sons! But boy, it is so cold at your place. I hope for you that spring is coming soon. Beautiful kimono! Have a fabulous Easter weekend!

That is a very pretty outfit! Our weather this weekend doesn’t sound a whole lot better than yours. They’re saying rain and a high of 60. In fact I think that’s the highest temps we’ll see for the next 7 days!

Thanks so much, Joanne! I’m bummed that we can’t take advantage of the warm weather because of the rain. We are dipping back down into the 20s and have snow predicted for Tuesday. Ugh. Happy Easter to you, my friend!

Thanks, Barbara! I am seriously crushing on purple right now! I don’t want to push anyone over the edge, but purple really is a fantastic color if you want to be visible and seen! Happy Easter to you, my friend.

This is an absolutely stunning outfit, Shelbee! I love purple (as you know), and each piece works so perfectly with the other. I really love that felted hat! It is the cherry on the cake (is that the right saying)! I’m so glad you are so open to your sons exploring different religions. I love that you’re going to church with Archer and enjoying it. I haven’t been a regular church goer since Covid, but when I do go, I feel so much better. I love the structure of our liturgy. Thank you so much for the feature and the new party!

Marsha, thanks so much, my friend! I am really on a major purple kick right now. I just got my new purple Big Blanket wrap! I think I am going to wear a purple dress to church today, too. I am enjoying taking this religious journey with my son. My mother forced us to go to her church for my entire childhood and that left me kind of bitter at times so I knew that I would do this religion thing a bit differently with my kids…I guess the way I wished my mom had navigated it with me instead of trying to force me into some blind faith scenario. That does not sit well with me! LOL Church or no church, I wish you a very happy and blessed Easter!

I went simple this Easter because it was cold and rainy in PA. I had a lightweight sweater with leggings. I love how pretty purple looks on you! Thanks again for hosting this week!
