Adventures in Thrifting Part 23: Purple Robe with Teal Accessories & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #798

You know how much I love a good thrifting adventure. Searching through the racks for unique and interesting pieces brings me so much joy. You know how much I also love my robes and kimonos. So when I find one in a thrift store, I get so darn excited.

It is very difficult for me to resist adding more robes and kimonos to my wardrobe so I really don’t resist anymore. I just buy them all and my closet room is becoming a giant collection of robes, kimonos, ruanas, ponchos, dusters, and long flowy topper pieces as a result. I just can’t get enough, it seems, considering I added five more preloved toppers to my collection on Wednesday and I ordered three new ones from Soft Surroundings the day before.

This purple satin one is not part of my recent robe haul, however. I found this one when I went on a thrifting adventure with my sister in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, last spring. I have worn it a few times already but I never photographed it until now.

I have actually been on a mission to add more bright purple to my wardrobe because our school district’s colors are purple, white, and gold. Ever since Ralph started getting heavily involved in school sports, I have noticed the lack of this color in my closet. As a parent of a student-athlete, I do like to show my support by wearing school colors to events, but I absolutely do not like official school gear. All the tee shirts have crew necks which I hate so I refuse to purchase them. I do have a few purple hoodies with the school logo, but hoodies are really not my style aesthetic even for sporting events.

I tend to dress as I usually dress for any school event unless I am having to work the score board and timing system at swim meets. It gets stupid hot inside the natatorium so I do wear tee shirts, leggings, and sneakers for swim meets unless I am a spectator at an away meet. Then I wear something like this outfit. In fact, I wore this purple robe and purple hat with cowgirl boots to an away meet in December.

In my effort to add more purple to my wardrobe, I also recently ordered four purple tee shirts (two long sleeved and two short sleeved) from Amazon. I actually am not a huge fan of Amazon, but this shade of purple is rather difficult to find elsewhere. This particular long sleeved tee exactly matched the purple of the robe. I paired it with my standard black leggings, my black cowgirl boots, and a lightweight black duster cardigan (because it is still very much winter here even though the snow has all melted).

To accent the little bits of teal that appear in the robe’s print, I added a teal scarf, a strand of teal wooden beads, and a teal and purple wooden necklace, all thrifted. I also wore my teal key necklace that was a gift from my children and teal key earrings that were a gift from my dear friend Michelle.

I was very pleased with this outfit combination as it felt joyful and very much me!

Stay tuned for more purple outfits coming soon as I just received a gorgeous purple leather jacket from F Jackets that I will be styling and reviewing in the next few weeks.

I also purchased this gorgeous purple silk robe for myself for Christmas. I was going to style it for this post, but my cat Frank peed on the outfit that I had laid out on the bed to wear. He did it right in front of me, too. I walked into the room to get dressed, the cat looked me directly in the eyes, and proceeded to empty his bladder on my clothing and my bed like a giant “Fuck you”. Y’all, I was so freaking mad!

Since I watched him do it, the urine didn’t have a chance to soak into the fabrics before I had it all in the washing machine with some vinegar to neutralize it. Thankfully, I was able to get everything cleaned properly! I will style and share that other beautiful purple robe soon.

Do you have a cat with a bathroom problem? Or maybe it’s just an attitude problem. I’m not sure.

Also, for your own thrifting adventures, remember to think outside the box when it comes to styling certain pieces. I found this robe in the pajama section but that doesn’t mean I can’t wear it in the daytime and outside of the house. I have also found similar pieces in the swim section. Dresses that button down the entire front can also be worn as dusters or robes. The thrift shop is the best place to find interesting items for wardrobe experimentation without spending a lot of money. And it also saves unwanted clothing from further overwhelming landfills.

Do you enjoy thrift shopping? Are there any specific colors that you’d like to add to your wardrobe?

Oooh, I am glad that purple is trending this season! Maybe I will be able to add more to my wardrobe. It is usually such a hard color to find. My purple outfits might be setting a benchmark for other moms, but I think it might be all the food I make for my kids’ sporting teams that sets the true benchmark for being a sports mom! LOL I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend, and thanks for stopping by!

Aw, thanks so much, Mireille! Marsha also commented that her school colors are purple and white. It is not a color you see often for sports teams or schools but I am loving that so many use it and I love that our school uses purple. At sporting events, you can always hear people yelling, “Go Purple!” which totally cracks me up. I love that you have the same approach as I do for getting dressed for school events! I hope you have a blessed weekend, my friend.

I am not sure, Melynda. Maybe because it was a color that was historically reserved for royalty…and royal ways have always seemed a bit wild and weird to regular people! It brings me joy regardless! I hope you have a lovely weekend and thanks for stopping by.

That is such a pretty outfit! I’m trying to add more purple to my closet lately too; not for sporting reasons or anything but because I do like that color in nearly all of the shades and yet rarely think to buy any.

Purple is my favorite color! I’m not sure if I’ve ever worn it with teal or not! I love this combination of everything! And, I’m not giving up on kimonos, either. The school system here has purple and white for its school colors. I go to a couple of events but not enough I feel I need to buy any school merchandise. And, of course, I adore that hat! Thanks for the feature and the new link up!

Marsha, thanks so much, my friend! Definitely do not give up on the kimonos! They are so fun and add just the right amount of drama and interest to any outfit. A few weeks ago, I went to see my therapist and I was wearing this bright pink long cardigan which she complimented as such a fun statement piece. I pointed out to her that dramatic toppers like this distract from the fact that I was wearing a tee shirt, sweatpants, and cowboy boots underneath! I give styling tips to anyone who wants them! Hahaha

What a fantastic thrift find! That purple robe is such a statement piece, and I love how the teal accessories bring out the color even more. Your thrifting adventures always inspire me to look at pieces a little more creatively—sometimes the most unique outfits come from unexpected finds. Thanks for hosting the link up too!

Oh my goodness, Laura, thank you so much! What a wonderfully flattering comment. I definitely see things a bit differently from most people but that keeps things much more fun, for sure! I enjoy sharing my thrifty finds so much so I am glad that it is appreciated. Have a lovely weekend, my friend!

Such a pretty colour. I saw trousers in that colour and doubting to buy them. I’m always drawn to purple ton sur ton. I can’t think of anyone else that wears hats as good as you do.
