Adventures in Thrifting Part 24: Pink Floral Robe & What I Actually Wore for Easter

It’s been a few weeks since I shared my last Adventures in Thrifting post featuring a preloved purple robe and a few days since I shared my purple monochromatic Easter outfit for winter weather. So I wanted to now share the purple and pink outfit that I actually wore for Easter.

Sunday’s weather was warmer and rainy which allowed me to ditch the heavy winter fabrics in favor of something lighter weight and more springlike. I knew I wanted to wear something purple to church since the color itself is symbolic of Jesus’s divinity, the very thing we celebrate on Easter.

So I started with this deep plum colored sundress. The lightweight cotton material and sleeveless style definitely put this dress firmly into the summer clothing category. But with some creative layering, it was perfectly appropriate for Sunday’s moderate temperatures chilled a bit by the rain.

Once I decided on the purple dress, I struggled to find it in the dress section of my closet room. Then I remembered that I had created a bunch of different dress and robe combinations and hung them in a separate section of my closet to photograph when the weather gets warmer. I had paired this plum dress with a newly thrifted pink floral duster which immediately relieved my brain of any creative output since I had already done the work!

While the weather is getting warmer, there is still a significant chill in the air so I added a lightweight pale pink duster cardigan under my floral robe, a pair of heavy black tights under my dress, and an old pink floral silk scarf that coordinated perfectly with my newly thrifted kimono robe.

The last step was accessorizing. I decided on my new white cowgirl boots for a softer Easter vibe and then added a white macrame belt, pearly earrings, and two different multi-strand pink and pearly necklaces. The shorter necklace was a retail purchase many years ago while the longer necklace was a more recent thrift store find. Finally, I topped it off with my burgundy/purplish floppy felt hat with a white neckerchief as a hat band.

I was really pleased with this pale pink and dark purple outfit combination for Easter Sunday. I received lots of lovely compliments on it at church, too. Honestly, I am really enjoying “The Three Cs” of going to church…Christianity, Community, and the Clothing! Everyone looked so lovely in their Easter outfits that I spent most of the church breakfast doling out compliments to others.

My kids, husband, and mother-in-law also dressed up for Easter breakfast and Sunday church service, although my husband left after breakfast to go home and prep Easter dinner. I am so blessed!

Yes, that is my Christmas tree still standing on my front porch. Yard waste pickup just started this week and we accidentally missed our pickup day. Now that I know the correct day to put it out on the curb, the tree will be gone next week so I can fully convert my front porch to its spring and summer decor.

Before I wrap it up, I want to share a bit about my porch butterflies that you can see flying around my giant Easter eggs. Last year, my husband had brought home two large sheet metal ovals from his shop that were scrap metal so I painted them like Easter eggs for my porch decor. We suspended them on cables so they spin when the wind hits them.

This year, the new intern in his shop created four beautiful sheet metal butterflies for me. It was literally part of her training as she was learning how to input the cutting points into the computer. I was so grateful for these adorable metal butterflies, I thanked her with a double batch of homemade soft molasses cookies. Thank you again, Shea!

She had painted the butterflies silver which looked great but I wanted them more colorful to better coordinate with my crazy porch. With the help of acrylic paint pens and some fishing line, I transformed them into little rainbows of flying cuteness!

Finally, I finished my living room scarf window treatment that I started planning a month ago. I went to the thrift store on half-off day and picked up about 40 scarves and looped them all over the curtain rod for a happy, colorful boho valance. I am completely in love with it!

And that is what I have been up to lately! I am still waiting for the warm weather to stick around for more than a day or two so I can get to my list of painting projects. I have so many ideas bubbling over, I can’t wait to get started!

Until then, happy thrifting and creating, my friends!

Keeping it on the edge,

Nancy, thanks so much, my friend. I am not surprised that you also have metal butterflies! Even after 10 years of knowing each other, you and I are still finding things we have in common. Great minds really do think alike!

Shelbee, this may be the most beautiful I have ever seen you. I don’t know if it’s the colors or the happiness radiating out of your face as you stand with your handsome family. I’m so glad you’re finding your worship to be so meaningful.

Your butterflies and scarf window treatments are so perfectly you. I’m sure they bring a smile to your face every time.

Awww, thanks so much, Marsha! I do love when my boys get all dressed up and allow us to take some family photos! And yes, my entire front porch and my scarf curtains both make me smile…all the time. It’s a good, good life, my friend. I am so very blessed.
