Songful Style Link Party | “Behind the Wall of Sleep” by The Smithereens
This our fifth edition of the Songful Style series…a monthly style challenge that encourages us to use music as our sartorial inspiration. We not only learn about new songs which is so enriching but we also have the opportunity to really get creative in the way we view our clothing. This month’s song, “Behind the Wall of Sleep” by The Smithereens was chosen by Anne. You can find the lyrics, album covers, and video inspiration, which includes Anne’s partner Severo playing bass in some of them, in Songful Style | “Behind the Wall of Sleep” by The Smithereens. While I have been familiar with The Smithereens since my teenage years,…

Songful Style | “Behind the Wall of Sleep” by The Smithereens
It is Anne’s turn to choose the song for June’s Songful Style challenge and it is a very special song choice in my opinion. First of all, Anne’s birthday is on Friday so I love that her turn coincided with her special day. Second, she chose a song by The Smithereens! In case you all don’t know, Anne is very closely connected to this band. Her partner Severo was the bass guitarist for The Smithereens from 2005-2017 and occasionally still performs with them. In fact, he just performed with The Smithereens last month in New York City. Sadly, I was unable to coordinate a meet up with Anne and Severo…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Sheer
Spring weather has been teasing me lately with a few gorgeous days sprinkled in between all the cold, dreary rain. It seems like the perfect season for showcasing Sheer things. You may be wondering why the cold rainy spring weather is the perfect time for sheer things. Well, I guess you have to keep on wondering because I don’t have any idea. I merely said that because I didn’t know what else to write. Frankly, it is still too cold for me to wear sheer, but I have always loved the sassiness of sheer garments. The kind that allow you to tastefully show off your pretty underthings. I don’t understand…

Songful Style Link Party | “When Doves Cry” by Prince & The Revolution
My musically inspired friends and I are back with the sixth edition of Songful Style, a monthly style challenge that encourages us to use music as our sartorial inspiration. We not only learn about new (and old) songs which is so valuable for expanding our music knowledge but we also have the opportunity to view our wardrobes in entirely new and creative ways. Suzy chose this month’s song, an iconic one from 1984, that many of us are certainly familiar with, When Doves Cry by Prince & The Revolution. For more details about this song as well as videos and album covers, visit my post, Songful Style | “When Doves…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Jewelry with a Story & Link Up On the Edge #302
July’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is all about Jewelry with a Story. Do you have a special piece of jewelry with lots of sentimental value? We want to hear the stories behind your most interesting jewelry, where it came from, and why you love (or hate) to wear it. What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book? It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month. Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to. You do not…

Songful Style Link Party | “Hello, Goodbye” by The Beatles
I can’t believe we are already four months into this groovy series of music inspired styles. Not only does it offer me an opportunity to approach my wardrobe with an entirely new creative perspective, but it also introduces me to wonderful new music. And music is so very important for so many reasons. Therefore, the people who share new music with us are essential in enriching our journeys on earth. For this fourth edition of Songful Style, Marsha chose a timeless Beatles classic, “Hello, Goodbye”, and the song has been earworming me all month long! You can find more details about the song, the lyrics, and various album covers to…

Songful Style
Songful Style is an ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of Suzy Turner, The Grey Brunette (formerly The Grey Brunette), Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Each month we will share a song with the lyrics and video and we invite you to use whatever aspect of the song that inspires you to create an outfit. It is similar to Style Imitating Art where we use artwork to inspire our outfit creations. Except Songful Style gives you lyrics, music, video, and album artwork to inspire your fashion creativity. You may even find inspiration in a memory triggered by the selected song. It is all…

The Thrifty Six: Wearing Our Soul Colors
Jane chose the colors of your soul for this month’s thrifty theme and what a thought provoking style challenge it has proven itself to be. While green has been my forever favorite color for my entire life, it cannot stand alone as my soul color. My soul is much too diverse and complicated to be defined by one single hue. A more accurate depiction of my soul in colors would be a burst of every shade perceptible to the human eye because I really do love all the colors. Some I adore more than others while others come in and out of my preference depending on the day or the…

All Zipped Up & Your Own Twist Link Up #55
April 29 is National Zipper Day, a day to celebrate the humble and extensively useful zipper. A thing that I suspect most of us take for granted. I do believe that this most fantastic of fasteners is one of my favorites. It far surpasses other types of fasteners when it comes to ease, finger friendliness, and versatility in function. We use zippers on so many things…clothing, shoes, purses, backpacks, duffle bags, suitcases, sleeping bags, and tents. Better than buttons and brooches, less complicated than buckles and hooks, superior to snaps and safety pins, and quieter than velcro, zippers are the most preferred type of fastener for people of all ages.…

The Power of Paint: My Gypsy Living Room & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #646
I finally (almost) finished my living room makeover! Although I did want to wait until it was totally complete to share photos, it may not ever be totally complete so now is the time. This first stage of the makeover really was just about the power of paint and how a fresh coat of a new color can dramatically change the whole vibe of a room. My living room went from boring old neutrals (like my dining room) to beautifully tranquil shades of teal. The colors I used are Gypsy Teal (close to Bay Teal) for the fireplace, the accent wall, and the built-in bookcases, Sea Breath for the other…
