Adventures in Thrifting Part 11: Vintage Bird and Fish Vest & Link Up On the Edge #248
I love thrift shopping for so many reasons including the lower price point than you would pay for new retail pieces. Being a lifelong bargain shopper, I get especially excited when I receive a coupon from my favorite thrift stores. A few weeks ago, I received a birthday coupon for 25% off my entire purchase at Thrifty Shopper and so I headed out for a day of shopping to cash in on my birthday deals. On this particular thrifting adventure, I got a giant shopping bag full of wonderful things for just around $60. My newest obsession is oversized men’s button down shirts. They are so comfortable for lounging in…

The Fab 40s are Inspired by Earth
“The Earth is what we all have in common.” Wendell Berry Last month, Suzy had chosen Water as our inspiration to create an outfit for the Fab 40’s. We had so much fun with it and received a lot of wonderful feedback so we decided to continue on using each of the remaining three elements for the next three months. This month was Ada’s turn to choose and because she is a Taurus which is an Earth sign, she has chosen Earth as our inspiration. Recently, I have been doing a lot of yoga that focuses on chakra realignment and connecting with the elements which has led to me thinking…

Memorial Day Outfit Idea: Seersucker and Floral & Link Up On the Edge #246
Memorial Day weekend is upon us so I wanted to share a fun outfit idea to show my patriotism as we celebrate and honor all the United States military lives that have been lost in defense of our great nation. As much as I love the combination of red, white, and blue, it is one that I find myself wearing more often during the summer months when we celebrate our most American holidays here in the United States. It starts with Memorial Day in May which leads to Independence Day in July with summer finally coming to an end on Labor Day in September. This is certainly the season in…

Adventures in Thrifting Part 10: Shades of Blue, Big Earrings & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #224
I haven’t been thrift shopping in a few weeks, but I have a pile of really cute dresses that I picked up the last time I made my thrift shop rounds. I was waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before going bare legged and it finally has so I can wear my new preloved summer dresses now. I am all about loose flowing lightweight dresses when the weather starts to get warm. They are so comfortable for all day wear. And when I am just hanging around at home, which I usually am, I can remove my bra and let the girls swing free underneath and no…

The Thrifty Six are Blooming in Spring Florals
This month Jane has chosen florals for our Thrifty Six prompt. Florals are a classic print that I am fairly certain will remain an infinitely timeless classic in fashion. But the fun thing about floral prints is that they come in literally every color palette as well as a limitless variety of different sized prints from ditsy florals to giant oversized psychedelic floral prints. And when it comes to preloved floral pieces, I have a lot in my closet. The real challenge was choosing a starting point. I opted to begin with this beautiful indigo ditsy floral printed shirt dress that I had purchased at my local consignment shop two…

Romance & Ruffles | May Stylish Monday Link Up
Romance and Ruffles is the theme this month for our Stylish Monday Link Party. While I am a hopeless romantic and a total love junkie, ruffles are a thing of scarcity in my closet. I have a few bits and pieces that have a ruffled hem or some flouncy tiers but none of them were really speaking to me as I got to thinking about this style prompt. And if the clothing isn’t speaking to me then I am not hearing it or seeing it or wearing it. I almost declined to participate this month because of my lack of ruffled motivation and then I remembered this bold and dramatic…

The Magnificent 8 in Our Fancy Pants
The term fancy pants has a rather negative connotation with every definition I have found using the word pretentious as the primary translation of this mid-19th century American idiom. But my magnificent friends and I are all far from pretentious in our versions of this month’s Fancy Pants theme. In fact, pretentious is the probably the opposite of what I am…even in my fancy pants. I think my entire outfit cost less than $50 and that includes my shoes which were probably around $30 (I can’t recall because they are a few years old now). I found these tie dye pants on a thrifting adventure last fall. I think they…

Adventures in Thrifting Part 9: Creative Mending & Link Up On the Edge #241
I did it! I finally tackled my ever growing pile of mending and I got straight to the bottom of the pile in just a few short days. The bulk of my mending work was spent on this thrifted polka dotty dress from Zara. My local Salvation Army thrift store has been receiving excess and damaged products from Zara in abundance recently. There is one huge long clothing rack that is filled with just this brand. Most of the items still have the tags on them and are in brand new condition. Some of the items with tags do have minor damage like spots or perfume odors or slight tears…
