Songful Style | “Meet Virginia” by Train & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #674
It is my turn to choose a song for our next Songful Style challenge. For October, I have picked an old favorite of mine, “Meet Virginia” by Train. There are a lot of fun sartorial references in this song and I really can relate to Virginia so I am excited to see what kinds of styles are inspired by a woman who “wears high heels when she exercises”! About Songful Style Songful Style is an ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of The Grey Brunette, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Each month we will share a song with the lyrics and video and we invite…

Happy Horrorful Halloween & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #673
Meet Jim, the newest addition to our spooky Halloween home. He is very tall. Six and half feet actually. And we love him! But I think our neighbors might already kind of hate him. Oh well. He is here to stay until November 1. Each year we add something new to our creepy porch decor. You can see how it has evolved through 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. The soldier skeleton is loaned to us by a friend each year and this year we have also added another big spider and a cage to contain the smaller posable skeletons. The cage belonged to George, our beloved and dearly departed bunny.…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Shades of Brown & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #672
October’s theme is all about Shades of Brown, a quintessential color for autumn along with rich reds, deep oranges, and golden yellows. We have already featured Red/Pink and Orange for this series but not yellow or brown. In fact, as far as color prompts go for The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, we have also covered Green, Black and White, Periwinkle and Purple, Easter Egg Colors, Barbiecore (Hot) Pink, and Gold. If there are any other colors (or prints, patterns, styles, etc.) that you would like to see as a focus for this series, please let us know. We have been hosting this series for a really long time and we are…

DIY “Frankenstein” Dress: My Coffee Needs Coffee & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #669
My coffee needs coffee and a whole bunch of bright colors. Thanks to Orly of The DIY Designer, I have found a way of repurposing my wardrobe into things that I will actually wear. With a bin full of unworn graphic tees and a pile of skirts that are too large or too unflattering, I had quite a few pieces to use in the crafting of some “Frankenstein dresses”. My oldest son recently coined the term when I made my first Frankenstein dress and it cracked me up. So now this is what I will forever call these cute DIY tee shirt dresses. By the way, a Frankenstein dress is…

September marks the beginning of the fall season in the northern hemisphere making it the perfect time to bring out our denim pieces. As we transition from the humidity of summer into the cooler autumnal months, denim garments can be worked more readily into your daily wear. We have featured denim jackets and jeans previously in this series, but this is a first for denim skirts. We invite you to share your favorites (or least favorites) with us this month. What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book? The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and myself. Every month, we invite you to share a photo or two…

Weekend Fun at Stony Fork Music Festival & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #667
We attended our second Bluegrass festival of the season last weekend and a great time was had by all. Outdoor camping adventures are always interesting. No matter how prepared you think you are, something always comes up that you are not prepared for. Fortunately, we tend to embrace things of this sort as memory makers. Who really remembers the mundane things that go as expected anyway? It is the unexpected things that we have to thrive through that stick in our memories. The last time I attended a festival at Stony Fork Creek Campground was Hickory Fest in 2019. That weekend had its own share of mishaps that created fond…

New Home Decor and Upcycle Projects & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #664
I have more updates to share in my bohemian bedroom wall decor as well as a few clothing upcycle projects that I have been working on this summer. I am very pleased with my progress even though I work at a slug’s pace sometimes. But hey, slow progress is still progress! In my bedroom, I completed two more walls with some DIY love. The first is another hat wall to which I added a rope picture hanging thing. I had planned to print some family photos to hang here but then I remembered a book of silly vintage postcards that I have had for years. I have used a lot…
