Outfits of the Day #ootd
I love to put together outfits. I find something calming and exciting in the process. And if I think I look good, I tend to feel great! Hopefully, you can find some inspiration here for feeling amazing in your own body.

Pink Plaid Poncho & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #644
I have been wanting to share my pink plaid poncho that my mother-in-law gave to me for Christmas since, well, Christmas. In fact, I was so eager to share it that I styled and photographed it on New Year’s Day and then life got crazy and I never got around to posting it. But that’s okay because the outfit and not-so-snowy background of these photos are much more appropriate now that the spring equinox has occurred. Ironically, there is much more snow on the ground today than there was on January 1. And we have more to come according to the 10 day forecast. So if you were looking for…

It’s Raining Cats and Dogs on The Thrifty Six
Nancy chose this fun theme for March which seems oddly appropriate since March brings such strange and unpredictable weather. One might not be very surprised if it did start raining actual cats and dogs. One might also not be very surprised that this theme took me straight down a wordsmith rabbit hole…What are the origins of this odd saying, It’s raining cats and dogs? It turns out nobody really knows, not even the Library of Congress. But there are lots of theories. One theory is rooted in Norse mythology. Odin, the god of storms, was often pictured with dogs and wolves which symbolized the wind. Witches, who were believed to…

Inspired by Sports Cars & Your Own Twist Link Up #54
International Sports Car Racing Day is this Saturday, March 18, so we thought it might be fun to find our sartorial inspiration at the racetrack, or, in my case, the car dealership on a Sunday when they are closed. This racy little holiday always falls on the third Saturday of March to coincide with the 12 Hours of Sebring sports car endurance race held at the Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida. Ironically, in the wake of my divorce when I was 26 years old, I purchased a white convertible Chrysler Sebring with a white rag top. Oh, it was a such a girly car, perfectly suited for a 26…

#EmbraceEquity for International Women’s Day
Happy International Women’s Day 2023! This year’s campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity and its mission is “to get the world talking about Why equal opportunities aren’t enough.” I actually wasn’t going to write a post at all today, but then I read this article this morning about menstrual equity and I was inspired to write about that topic. When I realized that today is International Women’s Day and the campaign theme is about equity, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to climb on top of my period soapbox and have a little rant. Plus I had this cute purple outfit already photographed and purple is the color of today so…

Songful Style Link Party 13 | “Love at First Sight” by Kylie Minogue
“I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date!” The White Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland Tardiness is one of my peeviest pet peeves so I’m a little annoyed with myself for not having this post published yesterday as I had committed to doing. I had all of my photos ready to go before I headed off on my annual winter road trip with every intention of doing some work while I was on vacation. But I quickly transitioned into vacation mode, put my laptop away, and never opened it again until this morning. So I’m only a little annoyed because it was really nice to put it all away for…

The Thrifty Six are Wearing Summer Colors in Winter
Since this is Jodie’s inaugural post as a member of The Thrifty Six, she had the honor of choosing this month’s thrifty theme. All six of us reside in the northern hemisphere where we still have one-third of the winter season to go with 8 weeks behind us and 4 weeks until the spring equinox. Where I live in the very northern reaches of New York State, the spring equinox is much less spring-like and very much mud-like. Most things don’t start to bloom around here until mid to late May and real spring weather usually arrives just in time for the summer solstice. Generally in my part of the…

Spunky Old Broads & Your Own Twist Link Up #53
Calling all Spunky Old Broads! February is our month to celebrate the kind of female badassery that can only come with many decades of life experience. Back in 2002, Dr. Gayle Carson, the spunkiest of us all, declared February 1 (and subsequently the whole month of February), Spunky Old Broads Day/Spunky Old Broads Month, a time to celebrate women still living loud in midlife. The driving purpose behind this holiday is to dispel the myth that life automatically starts winding down for women once they turn 50. We live in a world that tends to favor the younger which often leads to the undermining of the amazing accomplishments and extraordinary…
