Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Sneakers & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #634
Nancy and I are kicking off the New Year by inviting you all to share your favorite (or least favorite) Sneakers with us for the first Good Buy/Good-Bye Book installment of 2023. What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book? The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and myself. Every month, we invite you to share a photo or two of your Good (or Bad) Buy items that fit the stated theme. We ask that you also provide a short description explaining if the item you are sharing was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to (formerly known as Bad Buys).…

A New Year is Almost Here & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #633
“Celebrate endings—for they precede new beginnings.” Jonathan Lockwood Huie “New beginnings are in order, and you are bound to feel some level of excitement as new chances come your way.” Oscar Auliq-Ice If you celebrate any December holidays, whether it is Kwanza, Christmas, Chanukah, Festivus, the Winter Solstice, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve or any combination of these occasions, I hope you are enjoying the holiday spirit in whatever ways bring you joy and happiness. We had a lovely quiet Christmas at home with the boys which was, thankfully, our plan for this year anyway. With Snowmageddon canceling all sorts of holiday travel plans across the nation, we were grateful…

Songful Style | “Here to Forever” by Death Cab for Cutie & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #632
I had intended to have this post written last week but things have really gotten away from me this month. Although we are heading into Christmas weekend and I really wanted to take a short blogging break, I still wanted to share some musical inspiration for our final Songful Style collaboration of the year, which we will be posting on Monday. I also wanted to let you all know that Michelle has returned to our little band of fashion lovers and we are so excited to have her back! So she will be choosing our next song for January which I will share with you on Monday. Until then, enjoy…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: All Pink (Barbiecore) & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #631
“The ugly duckling is a misunderstood universal myth. It’s not about turning into a blonde Barbie doll or becoming what you dream of being; it’s about self-revelation, becoming who you are.” Baz Luhrmann Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book! The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit, a Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos…

It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Teal Fine) & Link Up On the Edge #325
I took some inspiration from Laura’s Big Book of Punny Titles because I have been tealing fine lately. And while it’s not necessarily the end of the world as we know it (or maybe it is), it is definitely the end of the year as we know it and in just a few weeks 2022 will be nothing but a memory. When the present becomes the past, events do sometimes take on a dreamlike quality so I chose this classic R.E.M. earworm for representing my newly discovered obsession with the color teal…and all other variations of blue-green colors such as turquoise, cyan, azure, or cerulean. As soon as 2022 ends,…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Hot Pink (Barbiecore) & Link Up On the Edge #324
“Life is a sea I’m sailing, riding the winds of time. Looking to find a course that is mine. Striving to find direction. Starting to understand, every wave’s a part of the plan.” Barbie as The Island Princess, 2007 When Barbie expressed the above sentiment, she was exactly my age, 48 years young. And my goodness, does that make me feel better that even this iconic doll, a symbol of femininity and power, grace and strength, struggled a little bit through her midlife years. I guess that is one of the reasons this toy has reached such iconic status. Barbie will be 64 on March 9 and now I am…

How Many Prints is Too Many? & Link Up On the Edge #323
If this outfit looks familiar to you, it’s because I have shared if before with the now dissolved Stylish Monday group for a post featuring Spring Trends. I bought the sweater and pants at Indigo Sun, a cute little boutique in Asheville, North Carolina, which specializes in festival wear, fair trade imports, and regional and local art. The sweater and pants were displayed in different areas of the shop but when both pieces individually caught my attention, I realized they were perfect for each other. As we were heading into spring at the time of my purchase, I thought the outfit would be fabulous for spring and summer festivals. As it…

Songful Style | “Witch Doctor” by Ross Bagdasarian & Link Up On the Edge #322
When we first began this songful series in February, I was sharing a detailed post about the next song prompt the day following my outfit post for the previous song prompt. But then I realized that the whole thing is forgotten long before it’s time to share the next musically inspired outfit for anyone who wants to play along with us. So I decided to push these posts out to the middle of the month as a reminder if you want to join the fun. Even if you don’t want to join the fashion fun, this next song prompt is sure to get your body moving for the day! It…

10 on the 10th: November 2022-10 Memories of the Holiday Season & Link Up On the Edge #321
I know that I have been saying the same thing each month, but seriously, how quickly the time is passing by! How has another month already gone and we are a third of the way through November? I cannot answer those questions for myself, but I can answer Marsha’s 10 on the 10th questions! 10 on the 10th is a monthly series with Marsha of Marsha in the Middle, Leslie of Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After, and Gail of Is This Mutton? Each month, we are presented with 10 questions about a common theme and asked to share our answers in blog post form. This series is such a wonderful way to share…

A Wabi-Sabi Worldview & Link Up On the Edge #320
Decades ago, I was introduced to the Japanese art of kintsugi, which is the practice of repairing broken pottery with a lacquer made of powdered gold, silver, or platinum. It is similar to the maki-e technique, which is a Japanese lacquer decoration used in all sorts of mediums from paintings to vases to decorative boxes and other trinkets. Kintsugi (“golden joinery”) or kintsukuroi (“golden repair”) is not just a practical art form for repairing damaged pottery, it is also a philosophy which views breakage and repair as an important part of the history of an object. The philosophy of kintsugi highlights rather than disguises where damage has occurred. By filling…
