Inspired by Elegance and Mommyhood: Writing Poetry & Link Up On the Edge #163
I used to write poetry all the time when I was younger. I felt it was easier to express myself in the shorter bursts of emotions that lend themselves better to poems than prose. In fact, in one of my elementary school yearbooks, I am quoted as saying that I wanted to be a poet when I grow up. That quickly morphed into the broader classification of writer once I realized how very little contemporary poets are appreciated in this world. Once upon a time, I had dozens of journals filled with my poetry. But that was all lost in a fire. Not the kind of fire you would suspect…

Inspired by Rosy Outlook: Plaid & Shorts (My Current Uniform)
I am getting super excited for the coming of Fall. It is creeping up on us, teasing me with the crisp evening air only to laugh at my anticipation with the warm afternoon sun. Getting dressed at this time of year can be somewhat challenging especially where I live. Temperatures have been dipping down into the mid-40’s at night and I find myself scrambling for layers to keep warm. Mornings are crisp and cool with temperatures hovering in the high 50’s when I walk the children to school so light layers are a necessity. However, by afternoon with the sun high in the sky, I am quickly shedding the extra…

Inspired by A Blonde’s Moment: Green Summer Dress
I know everyone is getting in the mood for all the Fall stuff like sweaters and jeans, boots and jackets, football and pumpkin spice things. However, we do still have a few more weeks of summer remaining and where I live if you don’t embrace these final warm days, you’re just kind of silly. Because once the Autumn Equinox arrives here, the temperatures will drop quickly and before you know it, I will be buried in snow once again. For a very long and cold six to eight months. So before I delve deep into Fall fashion (which is my absolute favorite, by the way), I have this green summer…

Inspired by Vintage Style Files: Parasol Trend
I can often be complicated. But I am easy to please. My brain can go traveling on complex railways without a driver. Sometimes, I enjoy letting go of the wheel and allowing it to wander at its own whim. Other times, I can turn into a raging control freak. I wax and wane between two opposite poles and very seldom settle somewhere in the middle. I am a dichotomy of contradictory thoughts and emotions. Shifting and changing with every tide, my mood depending on the haphazard collection of trinkets that may wash up on the shore. The paradox of life, of humanness, reigns strong inside of me. I ponder and…

Inspired by Style Elixir: Metallic Print Dress & Link Up On the Edge #151
This is a rare occasion when I am writing a post that features the outfit I wore on the exact day that I am writing the post. Usually, I take outfit photos and edit them and then they sit in a stored file for about 2-4 weeks before they ever appear on my blog or social media. But on Tuesday, I saw Lauren of Style Elixir wearing the prettiest black maxi dress with gold metallic dots. It immediately reminded me of this shorter dress I recently snagged off the Kohl’s clearance rack for somewhere close to $10. My dress has gold stars rather than dots, but it was very similar…

Inspired by Walking in Memphis in High Heels: Spring Style
It is the final day of Spring with the Summer Solstice coming tomorrow and I am only just now getting to show off some actual Spring clothes! I have had this darling little dress hanging in my closet for a few years and have shown it on the blog once before styled with tights and over the knee boots in Winter. Because when you live in a place where it is Winter for eleven months and Summer for one month, you have to get creative with clothing for different seasons. I don’t want to look like an Eskimo all year round! Back in March, I saw Laura of Walking in…

Inspired by Living Outside the Stacks: Style Icons & Link Up On the Edge #149
This is a kind of a double “inspired by” post…inspired by Daenel’s look that was inspired by Nicole Richie for last month’s Fab 40’s theme of Style Icons. My style icon for that post was Gwen Stefani as you may probably already be aware…since I ended up sharing two Gwen-inspired outfits. But when I saw Daenel’s super chic boho outfit, I knew immediately that I wanted to create something similar. If you don’t already know Daenel, let me introduce her. She is the creative and super stylish librarian behind the blog Living Outside the Stacks. In Daenel’s own words, she has “the research skills of a librarian, the preservation skills…

Inspired by Gwen Stefani: The Power of Clothing
Just last week, the Fab 40’s and I brought you some outfit stylings inspired by our favorite fashion icons. If you read that post, then you know that my outfit was inspired by the spectacular Gwen Stefani and that I photographed two separate outfits. I ended up not featuring this particular one for two reasons. The first reason is that I photographed the other outfit in front of murals of rock icons and that seemed to be the perfect setting for the Fab 40’s theme. The second reason being that once I created this look, I realized that it is absolutely something I would have fashioned on my own without…

Inspired by Pumps and Push Ups: Coral Gingham Top & Link Up On the Edge #146
Happy Thursday everyone! The Memorial Day weekend is almost here and it is a big one for celebrating at our house. First of all, as a military family we do like to recognize the holiday that honors our fallen heroes. And secondly, both my husband’s and my birthdays fall right around the Memorial Day weekend. His birthday is on Sunday and mine is a week from today. Because we have so many May birthdays in our family, we have always had a huge celebration on this weekend every year since we met nearly 11 years ago. But this post is not about the upcoming weekend. It is about the inspiration…

Inspired by A Pocketful of Polka Dots: EvaTrends Overalls
Ever since I saw Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots style her Distressed Overalls from EvaTrends back in December, the seed was planted in my brain that I really needed to try a pair myself. But here was my problem…every time I have tried on any type of overalls, jumpsuit, or romper, what resulted was that dreadful front wedgie. You know what I’m talking about. It is not a flattering look. On anyone. But still I would try. Then I would give up. Then I would try again. And then I saw Jennie’s overalls and noticed that they had a drop crotch. Not a trend that I am really…
