Inspired by Living Outside the Stacks: Style Icons & Link Up On the Edge #149

This is a sponsored post. The lace kimono was provided to me for purposes of a blog review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

This is a kind of a double “inspired by” post…inspired by Daenel’s look that was inspired by Nicole Richie for last month’s Fab 40’s theme of Style Icons. My style icon for that post was Gwen Stefani as you may probably already be aware…since I ended up sharing two Gwen-inspired outfits. But when I saw Daenel’s super chic boho outfit, I knew immediately that I wanted to create something similar.

If you don’t already know Daenel, let me introduce her. She is the creative and super stylish librarian behind the blog Living Outside the Stacks. In Daenel’s own words, she has “the research skills of a librarian, the preservation skills of an archivist, the organizational skills of a mother and the domestic skills of a Stepford wife.” Daenel is the mother of five and the proud grandmother of four. She is smart, a little bit sassy, and an incredibly beautiful soul. She shares tidbits of her life from fashion and food to shopping and cooking to books and art. A little bit of something for everyone from her very well rounded life. If you haven’t yet read her blog, definitely go check her out! She is fascinating and inspiring and I am blessed to have met her along my blogging journey!

The outfit that inspired me.
Fab Forties: Inspired by Style Icons

So this amazing outfit of Daenel’s…this is so truly her personality. Relaxed and easy, chic and sassy, worldly with a big ole healthy side of eutierria. Daenel wears these earthy tones in brown and cream so very well, resembling a woodland pixie of the most ethereal proportions. And I felt compelled to copy it. Because it is awesomeness. And when I see awesomeness, I want to be awesomeness. Then I received this gorgeous ivory lace kimono from Country Outfitter and it sat in my closet mysteriously whispering “Daenel” through the air vents. (Hahaha, that sounds really creepy, doesn’t it?) But creepy or not, I heard the message and this outfit quickly came to life.

My tunic in brown and earthy floral also reminds me of something Daenel would have hanging in her closet. I paired it with my dark wash flared jeans and stacked heel booties in tan because it is still too cold here for open toes! By the way, I just scored these cute booties at Kohl’s for $6.99.

And my dear friend, Linda Gibbs, just made me two more slouchy hats in white and ivory. The ivory was perfect with this outfit for keeping with the boho vibe. I don’t think I could pull off that gorgeous head wrap that Daenel is wearing, so I will stick with my fave slouchy hats! (By the way, Linda and I are considering a small giveaway where you could win a slouchy hat in the color of your choice. Let me know if any of you would be interested in that type of giveaway.)

I have to give a big shout out here to my friend Carlos who stepped in while my husband is away and took these photos for me. I am never comfortable with a new photographer, but Carlos was so much fun. He had me doubled over in laughter the entire time. Plus he kept making me jump off the steps like a crazy person. But sometimes you just gotta be a little crazy! So thank you, Carlos, for taking the time to help me out, for pushing me out of my comfort zone, and making me laugh until I nearly peed my pants.

So I love my new lacy kimono with this outfit, but I want to show you the tan lace duster vest with it, too. I am not sure which I like better or if I like them equally. Do let me know your thoughts.

Duster Vest: Lularoe thrifted from Salvation Army

I found this Lularoe duster vest at the Salvation Army for $5.99. I couldn’t resist the bargain which is typical of me. And then the thing has been hanging in my closet unworn for I don’t even know how long. The shade of tan is not the best color for my skin tone and I could never really quite make it work. But I think there are enough bold colors in the floral to offset the tan and not completely wash me out. Maybe. What do you think?

In any event, I felt at one with nature and kind of like the daughter of Mother Earth wearing this outfit with either lace piece. Now I just want to run off to a quiet retreat in the woods! I don’t know if it is the outfit making me feel that way or the fact that I have been single parenting for the last two weeks and I just need a quiet retreat anywhere and the woods is as a good a place as any.

If you love kimonos and lacy things as much as I do, don’t forget to enter the $500 Country Outfitter giveaway! They have a huge selection of beautiful kimonos and other boho inspired pieces to choose from in addition to all the magnificent cowboy boots! Entries will be accepted until July 7, 2019. It only takes a minute and an email to enter.

I can’t sign off without sharing this little guy we encountered during our photo shoot. I almost squished the poor thing with my hand when I leaned against the stone wall. He (I don’t know if slugs have actual genders or not) reminds me of my favorite characters from Epic. Have you seen that movie? It is one of my favorites!

Aw. Little slug.

Edit: I am such a mess this week that I totally forgot today’s post was supposed to be Your Own Twist with Monica! Monica’s post is live with the link up, so do go check it out!
