The Thrifty Six in Denim Days
It was my turn to choose this month’s thrifty theme and I went for Denim Days for a variety of reasons. I probably wear denim the most frequently at this time of year as we transition from winter to spring and the weather is still cool. I also have a lot of thrifted and preloved denim items which would make it easy for me to style a denim based outfit without shopping for something new.
Ironically, however, I never did style a new denim themed outfit for this challenge because the weather has been complete shit. It has been raining for days, the ground is all muddy, the sky is gray and overcast, and I haven’t really felt much like putting on clothes. I have spent most of the last week primarily in my loungewear without a bra!
Conveniently, I had taken photographs of this preloved denim skirt outfit back in September and never got around to sharing them. So this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
The skirt was once white denim and it was featured in our very first Thrifty Six post back in 2020. I didn’t really love the white denim and it ended up getting really dirty and stained. So I took some fabric dye and a paint brush and I gave the dirty old white skirt a complete makeover!
The only other thrifted item in my outfit is the rainbow snakeskin backpack. Archie spotted this cute bag on a thrifting adventure with me and bought it for his friend E who absolutely loved it! Before we gifted it to her, however, I used it for these photos because I could.
I anchored the outfit with black (my belt, my cropped top, my hat, and my cowgirl boots) and then I added a green tie dye topper with some green and blue jewelry to coordinate with the colors of the skirt.
I definitely felt cute and sassy in this summery bohemian look but honestly cropped tops are not really my things these days. I get too darn cold even when it’s hot and I always feel super insecure when I bare too much skin. I recently passed down this black cropped top (along with the same one in white) to my great niece. I know it will look way cuter on her than it does on me!
Before we get to my thrifty friends in their Denim Days looks, I want to share a few other preloved denim items that are in my wardrobe like these engineer striped denim pants, this white denim jumpsuit, this denim jacket, this sequined denim hoodie, this engineer striped denim jacket, this denim shirt, these denim shorts overalls, this denim dress, these denim trousers, this denim maxi skirt, this dress with DIY denim patches, these jeans, this denim jumper, this denim mini skirt, and this long denim vest/shirtdress.
And now let’s check out the diverse preloved denim styles that my thrifty friends have shared. There is definitely a little bit of something for everyone.

I totally missed that you dyed this skirt. Brilliant. I’m kicking myself for giving away a white skirt recently because I could have done the same thing.
XOXO

I went on a dying rampage last summer and dyed a whole bunch of white items that I was ready to ditch. I gave new life a bunch of things that I was going to get rid of. Don’t discount the dye when it comes to clothing, my friend! LOL

Girl! You can definitely wear cropped tops, but if you’re too cold, then don’t! You have such good legs, too! I love that you took your white denim skirt and turned it into such a fun new one! And, your boots are fabulous! What a fun prompt!

Aw, thanks so much, Marsha! I don’t mind showing off my legs because they are my favorite part of me. LOL But baring the midriff is a bit too much for me!
