The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Halloween

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

The theme for October is appropriately Halloween because Nancy loves all things horror and we have never done a Halloween theme for this series before!

*If you sent me a photo, but do not see it in my post, be sure to check Nancy’s post. If you don’t see your photo on either post, please let us know right away and we will add it. Sometimes the submissions can get lost in the shuffle.

Let’s get started and hopefully you will find some fun Halloween inspiration below.

Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style

“For me, Halloween is black, tulle, horror, Candy and a black cat, of course. Although there is nothing scary about Castor, he is as sweet as a pumpkin pie!  But if you have a black cat, flaunt it right! Especially when it is almost Halloween!”

“My good buy in this outfit is my electric blue leather jacket, purchased in a local consignment shop for a mere $32.00. It’s by Elizabeth and James, from the 2017 collection, and retailed for $1,200 – so yeah, that’s a good buy in my book! To fit this month’s theme, I’m doing a ‘bounding’ outfit. Bounding is a subtle form of cosplay (which is ‘costume play’ if you didn’t know) achieved with everyday clothes. This post (here) from one of my favourite blogs, Epbot, is an example showing a bunch of folks Disney-bounding – as Disney theme parks do not allow visitors to wear costumes, bounding is a way for folks to pay homage to their favourite Dis characters without breaking the rules. In that same vein, I’m bounding as one of my personal heroes – see if you can guess who!”

Sheila
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

“I don’t really dress up for Halloween, but this outfit is kind of acceptable as David Tennant’s costume as the 10th Doctor on Doctor Who, while it can still work as a ‘normal’ outfit, too. I always prefer costumes that can be put together using everyday clothes.”

“For this month’s Halloween post, I’m including a fun theme we did for our group collaboration, Match Made in Seven. One of the ladies chose Iris Apfel as the theme, so I really had to dig through my old jewelry so I could pile it on! For the glasses, it was Amazon to the rescue! I think I can wear this outfit for Halloween!  As Iris would say, ‘When the fun goes out of dressing, you might as well be dead.’ Do we love her philosophy, or what?!”

Cindy of Seasonal and Holiday Recipe Exchange

“Just got back from the resort that we go to 3x a year, between Cancun and Tulum ~ and since it was over Halloween and Day of the Dead ~ I wore this Halloween dress at night, and found a tankini w/bats & black cats for day ~ plus a black tankini with skulls and flowers for Day of the Dead (Nov. 1).   DressLily (on-line) has swim-suits & coverups for Halloween, Christmas & Easter (and they’re not expensive), so it’s a great site for people who go on beach vacations or cruises over those Holidays!   Then, the last photo ~ I was picked to judge the employee costume party for Day of the Dead, so wore my black swimsuit cover-up with bats!  (The butler, Nelly, was dressed as the Crying Lady and is actually absolutely GORGEOUS!)”

“Similar to both Sheila and Salazar, I enjoy creating cosplay looks using regular everyday clothes from my closet room. While a stiff satin corset may not be considered everyday clothes, I actually have gotten a lot of use out of this gold and black Adore Me corset for various style challenges. Along with my tall patent boots, long military jacket, white button down shirt, and fishnet stockings. Everything for this Zatanna Zatara has been in my closet for at least a few years or longer. Apparently making them all Good Buys!”
