Spring Trends | April Stylish Monday Link Up
Fashion trends change as quickly as the seasons do. Except where I live, the trends change much faster than the seasons. Yes, we are still experiencing winter weather as we begin our Spring Break. And Spring Break is the time to start showcasing your favorite spring fashion trends.
It was snowing yesterday but we are expecting a high today of 60˚F (15.5˚C). That’s a big jump from the sub-freezing temperatures I woke up to this morning. Once again, I am curled up in my fleece leggings and a sweatshirt with a giant blanket scarf wrapped around my shoulders to stay warm because heat is expensive with these crazy gas prices. And it is almost the middle of April, for goodness sake, one shouldn’t have to keep cranking up the heat in the house. Considering that my clothes are already paid for, I will just keep wearing layers instead of turning up the heat and having to pay more for that, too!
See how easy it is to justify my ever growing wardrobe? It’s cheaper than heat!
Anyway, the fabulous ladies of Stylish Monday decided to share our varied approaches to spring trends. Since we all live in different parts of the country and the world, there is sure to be much style inspiration for everyone.
According to Forbes’ 7 Runway-Approved Fashion Trends For Spring 2022, fringe and “little tops, big jackets” are two ways to transition from the runway to real life. And Cosmopolitan’s Spring summer 2022 fashion trends to know also lists fringe and “bras as tops” as two trends to wear this season. Refinery 29 also included bra tops in their recent trend report, These Are The Biggest Fashion Trends Of 2022-Here’s How To Shop Them. Glamour calls them “micro tops” and also includes platform shoes like clogs in their list of 17 Spring 2022 Fashion Trends to Try—and Buy—Right Now.
When it came time to style a spring trend look, I knew immediately that I wanted to share this festival outfit that I bought at an adorable little bohemian boutique, called Indigo Sun, in Asheville, North Carolina, on my recent road trip.
I first spotted the yellow fringed cardigan and actually showed it to Becca as the color is much more suitable for her tones. Because she lives in North Carolina, she didn’t really need or want a new sweater as her weather is already springlike. So I put the sweater down and then I saw the green bell bottoms with the beautiful floral embroidery down the sides. When I realized how perfectly the sweater coordinated with the pants, I ran off to the fitting room and then wasted no more time purchasing the whole outfit.
I added a navy blue bralette, a green floppy felt hat, and my old brown clogs to keep in tune with that festival boho vibe. My new horn necklace from Traveling Chic Boutique in Asheville paired with my upcycled earrings from Big Earrings also make an obvious hippie statement. I also just got new green framed glasses which matched wonderfully with this outfit. And y’all, I am now ready for festival season to begin! Bring on the great music, the great friends, and the great feels!
I had dinner plans with a friend after shooting these photos and I had to change out of the bra top because it was just too cold to have a bare midriff. I slipped on a navy blue tee instead and as I walked out the door, there was a package in the mail from Anne (SpyGirl) which included this gorgeous patchwork scarf. She ran a giveaway and I won this lovely handmade creation of hers. It was absolutely a perfect match with this cardigan so I threw it on and off I went feeling a little extra spring in my step! Thanks, Anne!
Well, that’s enough about my look. Now let’s check out what fun spring trends the rest of the ladies are sharing this month!
Stylish Monday is a monthly series published in collaboration with a group of international fashion and lifestyle bloggers. It is another opportunity to be creative with our personal style as we join together each month with a style prompt or theme. I am a sucker for fringes, and I don’t have any of them in my closet. Can I justify buying something with fringes by saying they will keep me warm?? Love your trousers and shoes too, I can picture you wearing this outfit at a festival.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Nancy! Of course, you can justify fringes for any reason at all…even if you just want fringes because fringes make your heart happy! You should definitely treat yourself to some fringed things this season, my friend! You deserve it.

I LOVE those pants. So original. And the yellow cardigan is so pretty!

Thanks so much, Amy! I was so excited at how well the two paired together. The sales girls in the boutique were amazed by my combination! I gave them a quick lesson on print mixing!

Hi Shelbee!
Spring can be tricky styling especially for those of us that don’t really have warm weather springs! However, you totally rocked the spring trends! I love how you’ve styled this super fun fringtastic look! I’ve thought about trying the bra as a top but I think I could do something similar to what you’ve done! These wide bellbottoms are spectacular especially the fun embroidery! Another fun collaboration!

Thanks so much, Julie! This whole outfit just makes my heart sing! I will definitely be wearing it to a festival this summer. The cardigan will be perfect for the cooler nights and the pants are comfy like yoga pants. You would totally rock a similar look with high waisted pants and a cropped top or bralette! You should absolutely give it a try! I am styling my white cowgirl boots again for a post next week. Finally it’s warm enough to bare my legs a little bit but not yet my toes.

New season is so exciting isn’t it. I love seeing the new colours and styles and am overjoyed that I wore sandals today! Hope the weather stays acceptable to wear lighter spring outfits. Thanks for sharing all your lovely looks. Jacqui x

Thanks so much, Jacqui! I am definitely ready to start dressing for spring! But it will be a while longer until I can bare my toes!

Oh, my gosh, Shelbee! This was totally me back in the 70s! I don’t remember bra tops, but I sure did wear the tube tops! I adore those bell bottoms! Bell bottoms plus embroidery…absolutely!!! I like the way you think re: heating! It’s 59 here but I’m cold so I cranked the heat up! I also have on three layers of clothing! These old bones, ya know!
Thanks for the link up!

Thanks, Marsha! Oooh, if you have pictures of yourself from the 70s rocking those tube tops and bell bottoms, can you please share them?! Please, please, please!
This time of year is when it is much colder in my house than it is outside. If I open the windows to let the fresh air in, the cool breeze comes with it and freezes me out! It’s great in the middle of summer because I rarely need to run an air conditioner because it stays very cool inside. But until it reaches the mid-70s, I am just cold and layered up!

I love these pants! I am coveting some embroidered pants! It did reach 60 here today (though it was in the 30’s when I was dropping Alec off at school!). I’m hoping the warm weather is here to stay but we shall see..
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Joanne! Oooh, I could totally see you in a pair of cute embroidered pants! It was in the 20s yesterday morning then peaked in the 60s here. It looks like our warmer days might be more consistent now as well. But the rain won’t stop so mud season is gonna be a long one!

Crack me up….just layer the clothes instead of turning up the heat.
Gosh what a fabulous look Shelbee…I’ll be trying this one.

I mean, I already have all the clothes, I might as well put them to some practical use! They are just lying in piles on the closet room floor. Those piles probably act as pretty decent insulation, too! Haha. Thanks so much for the lovely comment, my friend!

Ok you know I lovee everything about this festival ready look – I mean you could hop on a plane and walk right into Coachella this week and be the star of the festival. Im not sure which I love more, the embroidered jeans or the super cool clogs – so I’ll just take both, ha! Great styling, I hope you get some spring your way soon. We had one week of gorgeous weather and we are back to wind, clouds and rain – it was fun while it lasted!

Awww, Suzanne, thanks so much, my friend! I really can’t wait to wear this outfit to a festival this year! Our weather has finally warmed up to the 60s in the afternoons but now it just keeps raining to further extend mud season! I hope you get some sunshine back, too!

I love your outfit with the green bell-bottom jeans and the floral print on the legs. I was in college in 1968-1972, and this is the type of outfit we wore back then. I wore lots of “halter tops” in the 70’s (bare midriff). I see that they’re making a comeback. I think they look fabulous, but I won’t be wearing them this time around (ha-ha).

Thanks so much, Carol! Oh, I bet that was an incredible time to be in college! I would have loved people watching all the fabulous edgy style that was born in the late 1960s and early 1970s. I am a child of the 1970s (born in 1974) but not old enough to make my own fashion choices until the 1980s. And then I made some crazy fashion choices! And never stopped. Ha. Since you won’t be baring your midriff this time around, do you have any photos from the last time around? I would love to see!

Thanks so much, Katherine! This outfit made me feel so fabulous! I will keep this hat in mind when it comes styling time for our collaboration! Yay!
