SIA Gallery of Style | “Grand Canyon From The South Rim” by Robert T. McCall

Welcome to the SIA Gallery of Style and thank you so much to those of you who joined us for this round of Style Imitating Art! Remember we are still looking for a third co-host to join us each week and help choose the art that inspires our outfits. Please let us know if you are interested!

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag Salazar and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.

“When I looked at the painting, I saw all the different shades of blue as well as all the curves formed by the land and structures. The background print of my dress has all those curves. And, the colors seen in the foreground are echoed in the dahlia print of the dress.”

“I was definitely feeling textured blue and white striped knits for this challenge. The left outfit with the pullover sweater was a happy accidental match to the artwork, worn a few days before the reveal (my first “pre-cog” SIA outfit of 2024). The right outfit with the cardigan is the one I styled for the challenge, incorporating a bit of red in the scarf to pick up the color of the spaceship flags.”

“[My outfit is] pretty straightforward – I just leaned into the blue color scheme and added some textures/pops of colors with my sweater.”

“This tiered kimono had all the right colors in the perfect vertical order to represent this painting so I layered it over a dark blue column and added ivory accessories to represent all the blues and whites in the artwork.”
-Shelbee

I hope y’all have enjoyed what we have created. If you would like to try one of these art inspired style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, January 22, 2024, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose the artwork.

Keeping it on the edge,
