SIA Gallery of Style | “Conjunction” by Romare Bearden

Welcome to the SIA Gallery of Style and thank you so much to those of you who joined us for this round of Style Imitating Art!

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.

Sally of Within a World of My Own
Within a World of My Own
Sally was inspired by the black, white, green, orange, and pink/coral colors in the lithograph. She created this wonderful outfit in a combination of those colors with the addition of a floral scarf to reflect the dominant prints in the artwork.
Marsha of Marsha in the Middle
Marsha in the Middle
Marsha admits to cheating a bit for this challenge by recycling an old outfit from a previous SIA challenge. She says she didn’t have a single thing that would work for this art, but I disagree. Because this outfit is absolutely perfect to represent “Conjunction”!
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey
14 Shades of Grey
Salazar was grateful for some cooler temperatures so she could create this lovely orange and green layered look. Her sweater vest adds some beautiful pattern and texture to represent all the different prints in the artwork.
Terri of MeadowTree Style
MeadowTree Style
Terri wore the brightest thing she could find in her wardrobe and it is the most gorgeous interpretation of this artwork. The dress was made in Kenya and has all the bold, beautiful colors represented in the art.
And Me!
Striped leggings, bright colors, orange, green, yellow, thrifted style. quirky fashion, Shelbee on the Edge
These crazy green striped pants really reminded me of the clothing that the characters in the artwork are wearing. So I added some layers in the dominant colors of the painting to create this fun and cozy outfit in green, orange, yellow, black, and white.

I hope y’all have enjoyed what we have created. If you would like to try one of these art inspired style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, November 27, 2023, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose the artwork.

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee
