SIA Gallery of Style | “Floral Journey with a Twist” and Other Cherokee Beadwork by Martha Berry
It is time for my very favorite part of Style Imitating Art…The Gallery of Style! Thanks so much to everyone who has played along this time. I am always inspired by your creativity and unique senses of fashion.
About Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.
You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag Salazar, Terri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!
The Inspiration Artwork
You can read why I chose this specific piece as my inspiration artwork here.
The Artwork
Kamama (Butterfly) (Traditional Cherokee Ladies Purse) and Floral Journey with a Twist (Beaded Bandolier Bag)

The Gallery of Style
Sally of Within a World of My Own
Sally built her outfit around red plaid pants which were inspired by the red, black, and white color palette of the beadwork. To represent the beadwork itself, she then piled on a whole bunch of beaded jewelry including pieces handmade by Sally and her friend. Suer cute outfit and I am swooning over Sally’s fun “neck mess”!
Marsha of Marsha in the Middle
Marsha chose to style this gorgeous red floral tunic because it echoes many of the colors found in the art pieces. She wore it over a column of black to pick up on the black anchors of the beadwork pieces. I love the addition of her beautiful turquoise jewelry. Great outfit and one that I would definitely wear myself!
Reni of Reni’s Odds and Sods
Reni’s look was inspired by the colors, the floral patterns, and the traditional aspect of the artwork. Her red blazer looks amazing over this stunning floral dress, but Reni’s necklace really steals the show. What a perfectly appropriate piece for this challenge. And I am dying over her super cool boots!
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey
As soon as Salazar saw my art choice his week, she immediately thought of her spectacular beaded belt which she paired with a black eyelet dress with embroidery that kind of mimics the patterns of the beadwork. Another gorgeous outfit that I would absolutely wear myself. I cannot get over this awesome belt!
Terri of MeadowTree Style
When Terri saw the beadwork I chose for this challenge, she immediately decided to style her vintage 1980s Margaretha Ley Escada jacket with gorgeous beading and embroidery on the shoulders. She contrasted the jacket’s glitz with super casual everything else. Seriously, how perfect is that jacket? And I adore Terri’s fringed hemmed jeans, too!
And Me!
I went primarily with the red and black color palette and added beaded things and floral prints to represent all the beautiful details in this stunning beadwork.
Thanks again to everyone who joined this week’s SIA challenge. I really enjoyed seeing your gorgeous outfit interpretations of this stunning beadwork art. To read more details about each outfit, just click on the individual blog links or the images in this post.
*If you have submitted a photo and it was not included, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle.
Also be sure to stop back on Monday, March 20, 2023, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose the art.
Keeping it on the edge,

Sally in St Paul
Another SIA with a nice diversity of outfits! The color palettes of the looks are similar but otherwise, everyone really went in their own direction this time, and every outfit turned out great. I am laughing at myself a bit because it didn’t even occur to me to include a floral motif in my outfit, despite them being a central aspect of the artwork!

Thanks, Sally! I was thinking the same thing about the similar color palettes but each outfit still has its own unique flavor. Everyone did an amazing job representing this beautiful beadwork! By the way, aren’t there a few flowers on your scarf? Behind the White Rabbit in the tall grass? Maybe they are weeds, but weeds are just unwanted flowers, so still flowers. See…you did include something floral without even realizing it!

Beautiful beadwork! I love how different aspects of the art are shown with the ladies, some beading, some the color etc. You have the perfect skirt , I can see the inspiration here.
Hope you are doing well!

Marsha Banks
I think everyone just did a spectacular job on this challenge! I thought it was going to be kind of difficult, but I was definitely wrong! I couldn’t pick a favorite of them all (though Salazar’s belt is amazing)!
