Oscar-Worthy Outfits & Your Own Twist Link Up #17
Your Own Twist is a monthly series hosted by Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and myself where we showcase our own interpretations of a chosen style theme. We share the theme with you ahead of time in case you are interested in joining us. You can see the upcoming themes below if you would like to create your own post around the theme and share it with us in the link party at the end of the post.
With the 92nd Oscar Awards just happening a few weeks ago, Monica and I thought it might be fun to style outfits that would be worthy of the Oscars. Granted I will probably never attend an Oscars ceremony, but I had this thrifted gown just hanging around my closet for literally no reason whatsoever. It was less than $5 and I loved all of its sparkly glamour. It is one of those pieces that I really did not need to add to my closet but I figured I may have some reason to wear such a gown so for the price, I just couldn’t resist. I contemplated styling this dress last month for The Fab 40’s Meet the Roaring 20’s but it was way too cold on photo day. In hindsight, I am glad that I saved it though because it was the perfect hidden gem for an Oscar-Worthy Outfits post.
I will admit that I did not watch the Oscars. I don’t attend current movies very often because, let’s face it, movies are damn expensive these days. I might go see a movie in the theater once a year. I also don’t watch all that much television, so I really am completely unaware of what currently goes on in Hollywood and even less aware of what movies are making the biggest critical splash. So I researched a little just for my own awareness and to see if I would find anything worth mentioning. I found this comprehensive article, Oscar Winners 2020: See the Full List, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually did see one of the movies that was nominated for a bunch of awards. The Joker.
But I only just watched it this weekend while visiting my friend Becca in North Carolina. We spent Sunday afternoon walking around Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and by the time we got back to her house, we were ready to just settle in for a night of relaxation and movies. So we watched The Joker. And all I can say is that is one creepy ass movie. And Joaquin Phoenix absolutely earned that Oscar.
That is really all I have to share about the Oscars and our Oscar-Worthy outfits. I am in the middle of my road trip to North Carolina and I am having the best time ever. I have not taken many photographs because I have really just been living in the moments. I have lots of ideas rolling through my mind for Medium articles more so than blog content. Although I am sure some of it will make its way into blog posts. But if it doesn’t, be sure to follow me on Medium as well. And may I recommend a solo road trip visiting friends along the way to all of you…it really is so great for the soul and for inspiration. I met up with Becky from Pink Cheetah Vintage yesterday and she is freaking amazing! We are trying to get together tonight for a few drinks and hopefully Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots will be meeting up with us as well.
Did you watch the Oscars? Did you see any of the biggest movies of 2020? Won’t you join our fashion link up below with any outfit posts. And if you have any Oscar-Worthy Outfits, we would love for you to share those as well.
Keeping it on the edge,

Thanks so much, Nancy! It is so fun to meet blogger friends! I only ended up meeting Becky on this trip because the weather got bad and Jennie couldn’t make it. I wish I lived in a place where I could meet up with creative people more often. The Joker really was a crazy movie and definitely worthy of awards.

You have clothes for every occasion in that closet of yours! What a great find! I am finding that spending time with my friends this year has been great for my mood and outlook on life this year. It sometimes takes a little work to find a time that works but it is worth it. Enjoy the rest of your trip and be safe!

What a beautiful gown Shelbee. You look fabulous and sparkle on!! My hubby watched the Oscars so I saw a glimpse here and there but I didn’t watch per se. To be honest, it’s been awhile since I have really watched a movie or TV. It’s not something that attracts me so books it is! :p I am so glad you are having a fantastic time on your trip. Looking forward to hearing all about it when you return.

Thanks so much, Maureen! I do like to read books as well. In fact, I just picked up 3 new books during my vacation. Now to find the time for all of the things that I want to do!

You look so glamour and gorgeous!!!! It was so fun to finally meet you IRL!!!! Can’t wait for round 2!!!!
PS— I am so out of it as far as moves and TV, too. I can’t remember the last movie I saw— I don’t think I even watched one movie in 2019!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Becky, thank you so much! It was freaking amazing to meet you in real life as well! Your studio is gorgeous and you and Noreen are the funnest people ever! I will be back in the summer (June or July) and we definitely need to go out!

You look incredible in this dress! And love where you took these photos. Such vintage Hollywood glamor for sure! I always watch the Oscars because of the fashion of course. It’s my super bowl! Thanks for the link up Shelbee.

Thanks so much, Kathrine! I love that you call the Oscars your Super Bowl! That is so fun! Maybe I need to start paying closer attention to Hollywood red carpet events.

We rarely see movies in the theater and always wait for the movie to come out on rental. The Joker was so creepy but so good! This is such a fun style prompt! You look absolutely beautiful in your gown! I love the pleating!

Thanks, Jill! I almost always wait for movies to be rented at home as well. Every once in a while, I might catch one in the theater.

You look so glamourous, Shelbee. It would be perfect for a night at the Ocars! Loving the dress and those sandals! The coat looks fabulous as well with the red lining!
I did watch the Oscars, I like to hear all the actors’ “ramblings” LOL, but the only movie I watched from any of the 2020 Nominations was Rocketman (I love Elton John’s music), which I really enjoyed. I wanted to watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but never did and I have a hard time concentrating on movies at home so I have no idea if I’ll ever watch it.
Sounds like you’re having a fun trip! Enjoy the rest of it and have a safe trip home!

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Ellie! I want to see Rocketman so I will have to watch for it on Amazon Prime or something. I usually have a hard time watching movies at home as well and it ends up taking me like 3 nights in a row to get through one movie!

Glad you are having a good time! I hope in the summer we could meet up again if you visit. Love the slinky, elegant dress, what a steal! I also love the coat and velvet kimono, so pretty with it and I am impressed at your pedicure, my feet usually look unkept in the winter! I love the Joker he was so excellent in it! We are avid moviegoers but yes it is more pricey especially when we go to a theatre with wine, beer and food!
Enjoy your weekend and travels!

Jess, thanks so much! First, I had to laugh at your pedicure comment…my toes were a complete disaster just a few days before these pictures and I only painted my toenails myself in preparation for my trip to Asheville. And yes, we will definitely get together this summer. I am planning some time in June or July and will let you know when I have exact dates. Jennie couldn’t make it into Asheville either because of the weather, so we will be due for a blogger lunch!

You look just amazing in all of these pictures, Shelbee! You should definitely go to the Oscars sometime – you’d be the one they’d all be photographing – you’re so photogenic. I totally understand why you bought that dress – it’s like it was made for you – and $5….. I love the way you carried out the décolletage ornament with your earrings and the bracelet and your shoes are just beautiful. I’m the same way as you about the Oscars, though I’ve heard of a lot of the movies that are nominated. I see movies once or maybe twice a year. Otherwise, I don’t even rent them anymore. I love that you put your schedule for the year – I’ll keep those in the back of my mind so I can maybe send something from time to time. I love this series!

Ruth, thank you so much! Yeah, I really had no need for such a dress, but at that price, why not add it to my already overflowing closet? Ha. I am glad I had it for this series. Plus I am like a little girl and like to play dress up. It’s fun to dig around in my stuff and create fun combinations. I hope you do join us for some of the themes! If you want to co-host with us for any of these themes specifically, just let me know!

For $5 you couldn’t go wrong! For some reason the dress and the sandal heels puts me in mind of a Roman aristocrat. I have no idea why.
My husband and I seldom go to the movies either. I think the last one we saw was Bohemian Rhapsody. And I have never kept track of the Oscars.
Michelle

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Michelle! I think it is the pleats on the front of the dress that give a Roman feel as well. Isn’t it fun?! I want to see Bohemian Rhapsody and just tried to rent it the other day. I couldn’t find it for less than $15 to rent! So I guess I will wait some more to see that one.
