How to Create the Perfect Cozy Day at Home with Pajamas, Candles, and More
Whether you are in need of a mental health day, a respite from the buzz of social events, or simply want to savor the tranquility of home, creating the perfect cozy day-in can be pure, unadulterated joy. Making your home a haven of warmth and comfort can give you much needed relaxation and help you rejuvenate. Below is a guide to help you design the perfect indoor day at home with pajamas, candles, and so much more.
Setting the Mood with Pajamas
It immediately feels like a refuge from the world when you can exchange your work clothes or jeans outfits for soft, cuddly pjs for the day. From ultra-plush fleece onesies to super soft cotton night garments, your choice of fabrics can make a significant difference in elevating your comfort. Opt for pajamas that express your individual style and personality from cute character prints to embellished pajamas with frills or a simple set of classic striped sleepwear. Make sure to choose materials that suit the season such as lightweight linens for summer days or warm flannels for colder ones.
Light Up Your Space
Dim the overhead lights and allow your space glow with the soft, flickering light of candles. Scented candles can be transformative, introducing warmth and creating a serene ambiance. The aroma can be a powerful relaxant so be sure to choose soothing fragrances, like lavender, vanilla, or sandalwood, rather than energizing scents. Remember to never leave burning candles unattended as they can be a fire hazard.
Add Some Magic with Cushions and Throws
Cushions and throw blankets are wonderful accessories that bring an air of comfort and softness to your home. Artfully arrange a selection of cushions and have a few throw blankets accessible. Their tactile quality and visual appeal can instantly transform your space into a cozy sanctuary. Opt for a variety of textures like faux fur, velvet, and cable-knit for added interest.
Entertainment Essentials
Having a selection of your favorite books, movies, and music can be great for making your day more enjoyable. Whether you relish the turn of a page or the thrill of a flickering screen, make sure you have a collection of things that bring you joy. Curate a playlist filled with your favorite songs or opt for soothing sounds like natural rainfall or ocean waves.
Indulge in Comfort Foods
No cozy day at home is complete without a little indulgence. Cook or order some comfort food that you love, food that nourishes the soul with a sense of warmth and nostalgia. Steaming bowls of soup, oven-baked pizza, or even a deliciously rich chocolate cake can make you feel special, rewarded, and content.
Prepare a Relaxing Beverage
Steaming tea, creamy hot cocoa, or a glass of your favorite wine can all help to enhance an extra homey feel. Choose a beverage that is best sipped slowly throughout the day as you enjoy the comforts of your at-home rejuvenation. Craft coffee lovers might also enjoy the process of brewing a perfect cup while the enticing aromas fill your home with a sense of warmth and relaxation.
Self-Care Relaxation Activities
After setting the scene, plan some self-care activities that will soothe your soul. Indulge in a nice bubble bath, do some yoga, meditate, write in your journal, or even catch up on sleep. Make the day about embracing what feels right while forgetting about the stresses of everyday life.
Switching Off Social Media
Making your day cozy and relaxed is all about persuading yourself to slow down and be in the moment. This is the perfect time to also take a day off from social media and email. Turn off your work phone, turn off your computer, and focus on recharging yourself.
Creating the perfect cozy day is about curating a relaxing atmosphere and giving yourself permission to relax. With a pair of snug pajamas, the soft glow of candles, the comfort of cushions and throws, homemade food, and self-care activities, you can design your own special oasis of tranquility right in your house. Your home is your sanctuary so why not take some time to enjoy it.

Your True Self
Hi, Shelbee – These are such great hygge ideas for the Winter season! I love to get cozy to enjoy the cold weather months. It’s kind of a way of life for me now that my time is flexible in retirement. I like the cooking idea, though. I plan on going into the kitchen very soon! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

My problem is I stay in my pajamas way too long for too many days! It’s not unusual for me to get dressed at 4:00 in the afternoon. And, it’s becoming a very bad habit. It’s OK in the winter, but I like to be outside during the summer. But, you look adorable in all of your pjs!

Thanks so much, Marsha! As much as I do appreciate a jammy day at home, I do tend to get dressed before 7:00 a.m. on most days. But I still have school aged children so I am always having to leave the house, at least on school days, and I am not a mom who takes her kids to school in my pajamas. I think I have done that only when I was too unwell to get dressed. But give me a rainy or snowy Sunday and I can sty jammied all day long!
