Gone to Carolina in My Mind & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #692
Tomorrow, I’ll be gone to Carolina in my car.
It is time for my annual winter break solo road trip!
The first part of my travels will begin early in the morning, not solo. I will have the kids in tow for the first 4 hours before dropping them off at Gramma’s house in Pennsylvania. Thank you, Gramma, for hanging with the children all week so I can journey on freely!
Then a quick one hour drive to briefly see my sister, plan our sister-sleepover for the following week, and use her bathroom before continuing on for the final part of my Saturday driving. It will take about 3 hours from my sister’s house to my hotel in West Virginia where I will spend the night sleeping after an exhausting 8 hours of drive time.
I intend to start driving again Sunday morning as soon as it’s light enough for these old eyes to see properly. I will have about 8 hours behind the wheel on Sunday as well before arriving at Becca’s house in Western North Carolina just before dark.
We are planning a relaxing night at home on Sunday because I’ll be tired after all the driving. Then Monday and Tuesday we will frolic around the Great Smoky Mountains.
By the way, these photos were taken at Becca’s house during our October road trip to North Carolina.
On Wednesday morning, I am packing up and going on a five hour drive across the state to visit my friends who recently relocated from northern New York to North Carolina. When they are both finished with work, we are going to meet up for dinner and hang out for the evening.
Then I will enjoy a leisurely morning in my hotel on Thursday before making my way back to Becca’s on the other side of North Carolina.
Heading into the weekend, our plans for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday include all the things that Becca and I enjoy doing like girls’ day in Asheville (with Michelle, of course!), live music, good food, mountain driving, shopping, binge watching all the things, and sharing a joint or two (or three or four or more likely twenty or thirty). Sheesh. Potheads.
Early on Sunday morning, I must begin my return travels north again, starting with an 8 hour drive back to the same hotel in West Virginia. Monday morning will include a quick 3 hour drive back to my sister’s house in Pennsylvania where we will spend the day and night doing sister things and enjoying our sister-sleepover.
Jeff will be making his way to Pennsylvania on Friday to pick up the kids and spend the weekend with his family and friends. He and the children will be heading home to New York on Monday just as I am arriving in Pennsylvania to visit my sister.
The kids will return to school on Tuesday and I will spend 4 hours driving home to meet them after school. And in that moment, I will hug and love them and my vacation will come to an end!
Side note: This crazy floral duster was another ugly dress that I transformed. I didn’t take any photos of it before I cut it open but it is the same dress as this black and white ditsy floral print dress which has also been transformed from ugly dress to wild duster. Both dresses were a half shirt dress style similar to this freckled fright so I just split the skirt part up the middle and hemmed the raw edges, thereby turning an unflattering floral sack into bohemian blossoms of flowy goodness.

Have a safe trip, Shelbee! This sounds like a magical trip, and if your photos are any indication, your friend, Becca’s home is paradise! I do love that part of North Carolina. I am seriously considering a solo trip to the UK this fall. I’m not good in airports and doing all the customs kinds of things. I’ll just have to have Mike make me a list of what to do. It’s tough when your SO decides they’re too old to do such things anymore.
Have so much fun and give Michelle a hug for me!

Thanks so much, Marsha! I used to travel by plane by myself all the time without even an ounce of anxiety. Now I won’t go near an airport or an airplane without having a complete panic attack. So I guess the UK is out of the question for me! LOL But I hope you do get to go on your solo trip. Traveling alone really is quite an experience. It is very empowering. I hope you have a most wonderful weekend!

Hey, wow, that last shot of the mountains! you had me laughing at ‘floral sack’, there’s just too many of them, i think they’re def on the way out! but first you gotta find ‘m in all the thrift shops just so you can make more flowy dusters:)
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Barbara! The mountain spirit just keeps calling me to return! Now you said that, I am gonna hunt down all the floral sacks in the thrift stores and turn them into dusters! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

That’s a lot of driving! Living on a relatively small island, it seems so weird to me that you can drive for so long and still be in the same country! I hope you have a wonderful time and a safe journey. Love your boho outfit!

Thanks so much, Emma! It really is a lot of driving! This is the most mileage I have ever driven solo. I drove through 7 states which might be sort of like driving through 7 European countries. It has been an adventure so far, for sure!
