Fall Hiking Outfits & Your Own Twist Link Up #38
It is that time again when Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and I bring you our own twists on a specified style prompt. Not wanting to overload y’all with holiday outfit ideas since that is what seems to dominate the land of fashion blogging this time of year, we went for an easy everyday style prompt of fall hiking outfits.
To be completely honest, I didn’t even style this outfit for the prompt. I just threw on this jeans and sweater outfit one random chilly day a few weeks ago and took some photos in the back yard. This neon sweater quickly became a cold weather wardrobe favorite since I picked it up on Old Navy clearance in March. I was unsure of the bright color with my pale complexion, but I don’t really care anymore. The sweater makes me smile every time I wear it and it is crazy soft and cozy for those menopausal cold flashes that chill me to my core. And bright colors are ideal for hiking so you don’t get so lost in the woods!
This is actually the third time in nine months that I have shared this delightful sweater on the blog. You can see how I have styled it with black leggings as well as with jeans and a camouflage poncho. And you can find me cuddled up in it with my favorite tie dye pants at least once a week as well.
I am keeping it short and sweet today so that’s all I’ve got. Happy hiking!
About Your Own Twist
Your Own Twist is a monthly link party hosted by Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and me on the third Thursday of every month with the goal of inspiring some of our friends to get creative with personal style.
The idea behind this collaboration is to take one common piece or theme and style it our own way with our own twist…Monica and I have both taken a lot of fashion inspiration from one another over the past few years even though we have totally different styles. It is always fun to see how we can interpret similar items in unique ways or what kind of twist we will each bring to the chosen theme.
We will let you know the themes well in advance in the event that you would like to use the theme for your own post and add it to the link party. However, any fashion posts are welcome regardless of whether you used the theme or not. Check out the graphic below which has some of our upcoming style prompts.
Featured Favorite from Halloween Costumes
Emma of Style Splash shared her post, Orange Tiered Maxi Dress and Afternoon in the Botanical Gardens, and while it is not necessarily a Halloween outfit, the beautiful shade of orange is brilliant for a festive fall outfit of any sort. And it looks gorgeous on Emma!

Shelbee, You are the cutest hiker! I love the look, those jeans are so good on you. That stripe up the side is so special and you wear the knit cap so well.

You should see me when I cycle, I don’t hike. Wrapped up in tons of layers, because I am always cold. Jeans, flat boots and a warm, but not looking great jacket! I might try a hat like yours next time. It just has to be comfortable and warm right? But your sweater looks pretty good, the color suits you very well.

Thanks, Nancy! Yes, warm and comfortable is ideal! I like to be kinda cute, too. Haha.

Thanks for the link up!
Hope that your week is going well 🙂

Thanks so much, Mica! Cozy is best in the winter time! Today it is unseasonably warm though here, but there is snow coming soon!

Such a cute outfit. I love the color of the sweater. I always wear activewear when hiking, but I think it would be nice to wear a cute outfit when hiking for a change. Menopausal cold flashes? I’ve never heard of that before. How did you get so lucky to get cold flashes instead of hot flashes? ha ha!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Amy! I am usually hiking with my kids who are slow going so I don’t have the need for activewear! Haha. It is more like casual walking on a paved path through the woods! If I were actually hiking, I would probably wear more active type wear. And I have to say that I do not feel lucky with these cold flashes! They are exceptionally painful as the chill grabs me from the inside out and I usually end up in convulsive painful shivers until it passes. In fact, from the few hot flashes I have experienced, I might prefer the hot flashes over the cold ones!

You look fabulous in every way, Shelbee! I love those jeans with the stripe. I’ve never had cold flashes, but if they are like what experience after a hot flash (nausea and chilled to the bone) they can’t be good.
Thanks for the link up!

Thanks so much, Marsha! Oh, the cold flashes are awful. They start in my bones and attack me from the inside out until I am quivering so violently I can barely catch my breath. Sometimes they turn into hot flashes which soak me in sweat which triggers the next cold flash and the cycle continues. Fun stuff! Haha. But I feel progress like I am nearing the end of all of this! Fingers crossed.

You just threw on some clothes? Wow isn’t that what we used to do until we learned that we had to style everything? I’m sure the idea of ‘styling’ puts the heeby jeebies into so many people until they realize that it’s just getting dressed in your own way!! Color is so pretty today.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much, Pamela! What a perfect way to define “styling”…it really is just getting dressed! I love that perspective. An outfit can contain as many or as few elements as you desire…as long as we are dressing for our own sense of happiness. And there is no right or wrong way to do it.

I wish I could just throw on an outfit and look as good as you, Shelbee! I’m loving everything about this look—especially the socks with the boots (I’ve always loved that, but have never quite managed to nail it, perhaps it’s just me being self-conscious of something a bit different lol!)
Hope all is well with you. I’ve been crazy busy lately. Hardly had the chance to visit anyone’s blogs!
Big hugs

Thanks so much, my sweet friend! Your comment just reminded me of a female friend years ago who yelled those so same words at me in anger. Like she was really, really mad that I could just throw on an outfit and it looked good. I much prefer your positive angle on those same words! Ha. By the way, I have always had a thing for fun socks and my socks always match my outfits even when you can’t see them!

That is such a pretty pink, and looks great on you! I know Spring will be here before we know it so will have to keep Old Navy in mind for sweaters.

Thanks, Alexandra! This color really boosts my mood when I wear it! Old Navy might be my favorite place to shop for sweaters!

Fab outfit, something similar to my choice of clothing, although I prefer non ripped jeans in this weather. Love the boots also.

Thank you, Suzanne! I definitely put away the ripped jeans when it gets too gold for skin exposure!

You look ready to hit the trails! I think that watermelon shade is lovely on you. Especially with your dark hair. And the watermelon socks is the difference between a fashionista throwing things together and anyone else. Perfect.
