Another Fall Flashback Outfit: Tie Dye with an Oversized Sweater & Link Up On the Edge #280
Last Friday, I shared a fall flashback outfit because I have been too lazy and too cold to take new photos recently. And since my freezing cold laziness stuck around for another week, I am sharing another fall flashback outfit today. Last week’s tie dye and denim outfit was way cuter and much more flattering than my oversized sweater and tie dye outfit this week. Generally I can put together outfits that are both comfortable and stylish. But sometimes I am fine with just the comfortable part.
Regardless of my not so flattering oversized outfit, I do love the way the colors worked with the autumn river background. Fall is such a beautiful season here in northern New York, but it just doesn’t last long enough. The leaves turn and before you really even realize it, they have all fallen to the ground. Then the snow comes. And stays for way too long.
I have exchanged my wide leg hippie pants for leggings that fit easily into boots until the snow disappears. That generally happens sometime in mid-May. So I still have quite a few days of wintery weather to endure before I really come back to life. I am definitely in hibernation mode and enjoying it more than you know.
This outfit is a typical combination for when I am just hanging around the house or running the kids to and from school. I loved these wide legged cotton pajama style pants from Rainbow Zen so much that I bought 4 pairs. These tie dye ones are my favorite especially in the warmer weather. I styled them in the summer with a tank top and kimono and these same Fauxenstocks.
The three other pairs of pants like these have a Buddha print on them and are so stinking comfortable that I literally wore them every day until the snow came. I already wore a hole through the crotch of the black pants so they have been downgraded completely to pajama pants, but the blue and the green pairs are still holding up along with the tie dye joggers and tie dye dress that I got on the same Rainbow Zen shopping trip.
Clearly, this outfit is all about comfort. And If I recall back to the fall, I believe I had no intention of taking photographs of this look. But then I figured I share pictures of my underwear so why not share pictures of my cozy wear? It is, after all, a more accurate reflection of what I look like most of the time.
I have a bohemian soul and a hippie heart and I will wear whatever the heck I like.
You might remember this photo from the Style Imitating Art post that featured the Solar System Quilt by Ellen Harding Baker…
I changed into this outfit after shooting the outfit inspired by the Solar System Quilt and realized that it worked just as well by accident as the outfit I had purposefully created. Serendipity offers shows up in my style.
Speaking of Style Imitating Art, remember to stop by on Monday when I will be announcing my first curated artwork for the next style challenge. I am so excited to share a very sentimental work and the story behind it with you!
Until then, here are the favorite posts from last week. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

With a blizzard on its way to Maine, I was so encouraged by these images of beautiful autumn!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
I saw that huge storm coming your way, Michele! There are predictions of over 3 feet of snow in some places. While 3 feet of snow doesn’t really phase me anymore since we tend to get hit with 18-24 inches every time it snows, I feel for you if you live in a place that is not accustomed to this kind of snowfall. It will be awe-strikingly beautiful though, I’m sure! Just stay safe and warm, my friend. Fingers crossed the power stays on and people have heat and all that stuff.

Thank you, Jess! I am all about cozy comfort right now. It is brutally cold here that it hurts to step outside! I am so looking forward to heading to NC in a few weeks! I will send another group email confirming all of my details and stuff but I will definitely be in Asheville the weekend of February 26! Have a fabulous weekend, my friend.

I didn’t like tie dye until we did it as a theme last year and I bought a skirt for the theme. Now I can really appreciate it! Have a great weekend! It will be a stressful one for me, I have to go to the hospital on Monday to get surgery on Tuesday for my lungs!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
I love that you changed your mind about tie dye, Nancy! That makes my hippy heart happy! I will be sending you lots of positive healing energy until you return safely home from your surgery! Sending you a million hugs, too!

Love the autumnal colors in your outfit, and the setting is beautiful! It is so refreshing to look back pre-freeze out 🥶! We have a 4+ inch snowstorm coming our way this afternoon. I know this is nothing compaired to the snowy winters you experience! Stay cozy and warm and enjoy your weekend!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Di! I found these autumn colors and the leaves on the ground to be very refreshing as well. It was only 3 months ago yet it feels like an eternity has passed since the winter freeze as set in. We have had days and days of -30 and below temperatures (again today). It is so ridiculous. It hurts your face the second you step outside! I hope you are able to get out in your snowstorm for some snowy photos! Because as much as I do love the autumnal background, nothing really beats a background of freshly fallen snow!

Sometimes I think I think “flattering” is overrated. As long as you feel comfortable & fabulous f*ck flattering. And my friend, I feel ya on the too cold to take pictures thing…lol! xo
Debbie

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Haha, thanks, Debbie! I actually got kind of cringey when I was typing that sentence about flattering! Because I do feel comfy and cute and totally myself in an outfit like this. And if I am shivering cold, it matters not how cute my outfit is because I am just going to cover it with a blanket or something to get warm anyway! What in the holy hell is with this cold!? It is -35 here this morning. Again. We have had so many days with these ridiculous sub-arctic temperatures. Stay warm, my friend!

I am curious, how many outfit posts do you have on reserve (e.g. that you haven’t posted until now)? I am always in a frantic last-minute rush to shoot mine, so teach me your planning ways! 😉
Cheryl Shops | http://www.cherylshops.net
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Hahaha, Cheryl, I do not plan ahead at all! Sometimes I get on top of things and actually get dressed on a daily basis and then I will do a whole bunch of random photoshoots to have some back up ones. Every once in a while, the back up ones don’t have a place in my blogging schedule and so I just save them for times like now when I haven’t taken any outfits in weeks. But that was the last of my backup photos. I did manage to photograph 2 outfits in the past week but now I have a bunch of themed outfits for style challenges that I need to get working on! I am hoping to photograph 2 or 3 over the weekend and hopefully will also get back to shooting a few a week at least. But definitely I have no planning ways to share! I just fly by the seat of my pants (or the hem of my skirts)!

Sometimes it’s about the overall vibe and not necessarily about how flattering it looks. I kind of like the oversized look. The photos are beautiful with the fall background!

Laura, thanks so much! I was going for my easy bohemian vibes with this look. So I definitely succeeded at that! Have a wonderful weekend!

Shelbee, I love, love, love this outfit! And, your Jeff should definitely look into photography as a side gig! These photos are gorgeous! I love the tie dye (well, to be perfectly honest, I love most tie dye) with the orange and the background…chef’s kiss!!!
Thanks for the link up! And, wow! I cannot believe others liked my Russian granny look!

Thank you, Marsha! Jeff has definitely developed some fairly decent photography skills over the years! We thought about getting an actual camera but then decided we were both comfortable with the iPhone camera and neither of us was really into leaning a new gadget! Haha. I love how this autumn river background photographed so much! And I love basically everything that is tie dyed as well. Have a fabulous weekend, my friend!

Beautiful fall colors with your outfit Shelbee! Fall is quite spectacular in parts of the UK, in the forest near where I live it is less so, but I always look forward to to the humble Virginia creeper turning red, in wasteground near our garage, as it’s a great short-lived backdrop for pictures.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Gail! We do get some pretty spectacular fall foliage where I live but it is so short lived, taken over by winter right after the leaves have turned. The fall colors do make for the best photo backgrounds, don’t they?! Have a fabulous weekend, my friend.

What a comfortable looking outfit! I was just scouring my closet looking for something both warm and baggy comfortable today… but I don’t have anything!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Aw, thanks, Joanne! I tend to go for leggings this time of year but sometimes I also want baggy and warm! Especially on those bloated days! I am about to go figure out something warm for today. We promised Ralph brunch at IHOP today so I guess I have to venture outdoors. Have a great weekend…stay comfortable and warm!

I love this comfy, cozy look! The colors are awesome, and it all looks so soft and comfortable.
The other day, I tried to take photos of a mostly black outfit indoors on cloudy, snowy day. The results were awful. I have since found a better place inside – my husband has been replacing regular overhead bulbs with LED bulbs. It’s like daylight in one hall now. 🤣

Thanks so much, Michelle! This is a super cozy outfit, for sure! We just changed all the bulbs in our house to LED and it really makes a difference, doesn’t it?! I sometimes use this floor lamp for indoor photos, too. It’s all bendy and I move it around the house to where I need it and then it’s skinny enough that it just gets stored in a closet. It has no permanent spot because I really only use it for indoor photos! Have a great weekend!

I am so in love with these photos! The orange leaves, and the cozy burnt orange sweater. We do not see Fall like this in Central Florida so I always enjoy seeing photos.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Alexandra! We do have beautiful fall foliage in northern NY, but it comes and goes so quickly. I was just telling my husband last night that I would love to schedule an autumn trip through the Smokey Mountains when the leaves have fully changed. I bet that is an awesome sight!

One of the many things I love about you, Shelbee, is your willingness to share all your outfits on the blog, regardless of whether it’s lingerie, evening out glam or simple comfort wear.
