Songful Style Link Party #21 | “Meet Virginia” by Train
It was my turn to choose the song for this month’s music meets style challenge and I went with an old favorite, Train‘s 1998 pop hit “Meet Virginia”. You can read all sorts of details about the song and the band in my post, Songful Style | “Meet Virginia” by Train. I have been listening to this song for 25 years and it only recently occurred to me how strongly I relate to this imaginary woman named Virginia. In fact, the lyric that hit me with the most profound punch was this one… "You see her confidence is tragic But her intuition magic" I have failed to listen to my…

How to Show Up for Fostered Teens
As a foster carer of teenagers, you will have a lot of unique experiences. It is a highly rewarding role in that you get to make an astounding difference, and though this could be said of any age, it feels a bit more apparent at times with teenagers. Why? Because this is the age where it either all comes together or falls apart, and while this feels like a major responsibility, it is also a great opportunity to make a real difference. If you are a foster parent of teenaged children, here’s how you can show up for your fostered teens. Be consistent. The first thought when fostering teenagers is…

Fall Road Trip: Great Smoky Mountains & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #676
I promised to share some photos from our recent road trip to the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, so here they are! I tend to not take very many photos during vacations because I feel like photography inhibits my enjoyment and appreciation of being in the moment. Also, I find that my novice photography skills never do justice to the things I am photographing, especially when it comes to nature. You simply cannot capture the astounding beauty in pictures. Some things you simply must see with your naked eyes and not through the lens of a camera or a cell phone. But I did manage to take some photos.…

The Magnificent 8 in Simply Red
The Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among 8 stylish women, each in a different age bracket, ranging from 20’s to 80’s. The mission of this collaboration is to show you just how ageless style is, how we can each dress however we’d like and in ways that make us feel fabulous. There are no age restrictions on style. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. Mushroom Madness and the Converse Queen & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #675
I mentioned yesterday that we just returned from a 5 day road trip to Asheville, North Carolina, and I am still trying to catch up on things in blogland including the sifting through of vacation photos before I can share more about our trip. I was ready to really get rolling on things yesterday morning after taking the kids to school when we received a notification two hours into the school day that the kids would be dismissed in one hour. There was a water main break that has sent our little town into a governor- declared state of emergency. We essentially ran out of water. Although the break was…

It All Began with Halloween & Your Own Twist Link Up #61
As I begin to wind down this Your Own Twist monthly collaboration, I am revisiting all of my past Halloween posts. We began this journey five years ago with Halloween costumes and have continued to share our costumes every October since. However, this year I have not had the opportunity to create my Halloween costume yet. We just returned home yesterday from a 5 day road trip to North Carolina and I have much catching up to do. I also have to make the kids’ costumes a priority over mine. I’ll find something fun inside my closet at the last minute, I’m sure. Since I have not had a chance…

The Thrifty Six: Inspired by Taylor Swift Eras
Taylor Swift has been making headlines everywhere because of her current Eras Tour as well as her budding new romance with Kansas City Chiefs footballer Travis Kelce. So it seemed like perfect timing when Grace chose Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as our inspiration for this month’s Thrifty Six style challenge. Last October, I shared another Taylor Swift inspired outfit for a Songful Style challenge but none of those outfit components were thrifted or preloved. So I was excited to create another Taylor inspired look using only secondhand or preloved items. The Eras Tour takes us on a journey through Taylor Swift’s 17 years in the music industry with a tiny…
