What to Wear Star Gazing & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #181
I just revealed myself as a space geek in yesterday’s post, Looking for Neowise, so today I thought it might be fun to share the perfect star gazing outfit to provide a bit of inspiration for other space geek fashionistas who may be reading.
Actually, this outfit was not specifically chosen for star gazing and comet seeking, it just happened to be the outfit I wore the day we went to look for Neowise. It is an outfit that I have worn at least once a week since the summer temperatures arrived and I only just now got around to taking photographs of it.
I have definitely been on a maxi dress and kimono kick this summer mostly because it has been super hot and humid and I really just want to be comfortable. This black maxi dress feels more like a nightie than a dress and the silky kimono adds a bit of a robe-like vibe making this outfit very much in line with the pajama dressing street-style trend that was hot a few years back.
While pajama dressing may not be the the most current trend right now, it really does work perfectly for a summertime spent in quarantine. Throw on some heeled shoes and other fun accessories and make your pajama inspired clothing feel a bit more dressed up.
I have to confess, though, that I don’t wear shoes often these days. I really only put them on for photos. And since I rarely leave my house, I have spent most days like an old barefoot hippie, feeling my feet connect with the Earth to channel some good healthy vibes from Mother Nature herself.
Another benefit to pajama dressing is that your neighbors will never even suspect that you are just lounging around the house in sleepwear. Or maybe they will notice, but it is doubtful that any neighbors will really care what you are wearing. I am pretty certain my neighbors don’t give a hoot about the clothing I wear.
In any event, a maxi dress and kimono combination is really quite perfect for most any summertime activity from star gazing and comet seeking to picnics in the park and walks on the beach to hanging with friends or some front porch sitting. Whatever the rest of these summer days may bring, I just want to comfortable and feel great in what I am wearing.
All of my accessories are from local small businesses and I am so glad to represent them all. For details, scroll to the shopping links at the bottom of the post.
What have you been wearing this summer? What kind of activities have you been doing to pass the long summer days?
And now the featured favorites from last week.

Thanks so much, Jill! Barefoot is the best way for summertime living! As much as I love shoes, I do like my feet to have some freedom!

I love a maxi dress and everyone should have a black one. I love the color of your kimono it just compliments your look so much! Lovely post Shelbee!
Peace!

Thanks so much, Cheryl! I think I need a few more black maxi dresses! I have three and I wear each of them at least once a week! Or maybe I need to start wearing other clothes rather than spending my summer in black maxi dresses. Haha.

Loose dresses, pants and skirts are becoming a norm here, it is getting so hot and humid, we barely go outside except for early morning run and evening walk.

Same here, Mireille! It is stupid stinking hot everywhere it seems! Although I think the heat wave where I live has finally broken. We are expecting a high of 78 degrees today which is just gorgeous! I will be mowing the lawn while it is cooler since temperatures will be going back up again. Stay cool, my friend!

such a pretty kimono. You also reminded me I have a similar pair of booties I should wear, been on a sandal and converse kick though. And I cannot believe how long your hair has gotten. Envious, trying to grow mine back to that length
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Linda! I love the open toe booties for spring and summer, but I rarely wear any shoes except slides to throw on as I run out the door. I haven’t had my hair cut since last June so it has had lots of uninterrupted time to grow! But I do need a trim and soon. I hope your week is going well!

I love this color combination on you with your black hair! The lace od the dress is very pretty and I love the olive kimono, so pretty!
I have been wearing some maxi dresses but need ones in either cotton or linen for the heat. I am all for comfort and style!
take care!

Thanks so much, Jess! I love olive green and the satiny fabric really makes the color extraordinary! I agree that cotton and linen are the best right now. I just put on a cotton tee and linen shorts for chilling around my house today. And definitely no shoes! Except if I walk outside today since I just got stung by a bee in my backyard…wearing shoes (I was cutting the grass and the darn thing jumped up and stung my ankle. Ugh.). I hope your week is off to a great start!

Midlife and Beyond
I love to wear black in the summertime – it always seems more dramatic for some reason – love the kimono you’ve styled it with, very boho, and yes to going barefoot – though, we’ve had a lot of typical British weather (rain). So maybe not such a great idea until we’re lucky enough for the sun to shine again. Enjoy the rest of your week Shelbee.
Alison xx
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Alison! I do love my kimonos and anything that screams boho. And yes, going barefoot in the mud is probably not as much as fun as barefoot in the sun on dry grass. Although I did just get stung by a bee mowing my lawn (with shoes on) so maybe I don’t want to be barefoot out there anymore! Have a lovely week!

Theresa
You know I’m as big a kimono fan as you are, Shelbee! That one is fab with the embroidered flowers. The slinky lounging outfit along with the beret is making me think of Stevie Nicks, which is a very good thing! Love the map necklace too.
Happy stargazing!
Theresa
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Theresa, thanks so much! Aren’t kimonos just the best things ever? I love to wear just for lounging as well over my jammies or undies! And that Stevie Nicks comparison just made me smile so big! She rocks! Have a wonderful day!

Looking so very nice for the star glazing. I usually in some ratty shorts and a t-shirt on my porch having a beer looking up at the sky. LOL.
Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

Thanks so much, Patrick! I am in ratty shorts and a tee shirt today and haven’t really moved from my couch except for the 45 minutes it took to cut the grass this morning! I might nee a beer soon!

Maxi dresses are definitely the dress of choice this summer, aren’t they? I love your secret pajama-inspired outfit ideas!! lol! Beautiful kimono, BTW. You look amazing in olive, my friend! That pizza box wall is truly inspirational! And beautiful. The mind of the artist is facinating–why don’t we think of cool things like they do? At least they inspire us to “think outside the box.” (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) Have a great week, Shelbee.

Darlene, thanks so much! That was a fabulous pun on the pizza box art! I love it! And yes, I am all about comfort as a priority these days. And maxi dresses with kimonos are fitting that need right now. I hope you are having a fantastic week!

I’ve been living in “house dresses” so far this summer—they’re even comfier than sweats, if you ask me, and much prettier! Love how you layered yours with a kimono!
Cheryl Shops | http://www.cherylshops.net
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Cheryl! I agree. Flowy house dresses are way better than sweats. Although, I haven’t been wearing many things with waistbands which does not help me to keep the junk food eating in check! Haha. But the dresses also hide the food baby!

Shauna
If I’m not in comfy clothes, I’ve been living in maxi dresses and kimonos too! They have been my go-to this summer. With nowhere to go and nothing to do these days, I still like to feel presentable! 🙂 Love this look!

Shauna, thanks so much! I like to look presentable as well just in case I have to go somewhere or someone stops by my house. I don’t want to be a total homebody slob, so I get dressed every day in something presentable! Have a fabulous day!

I love the idea of stargazing! I should teach my oldest about constellations and keep her up one night! We’ve been doing a lot of playing in the water, making new recipes, crafts, and some free virtual camps to pass our days. This has been a different summer for sure!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Laura, I think Claire would love stargazing with you! It makes them feel special, too, when you let them stay up super late to go look for some stars and planets! If you do take her stargazing, I would love to hear how she liked it! I have not looked into any virtual camps but I keep getting emails and stuff about them. I should check it out.

I was surprised and honored that you chose my post as your personal fave! Thank you! And I love your outfit! It looks really cool and comfortable, but elegant too. That a huge win in my book! I’m not much for shoes either lately. And when I do put some on, they’re slip-ons as I know I won’t be keeping them on very long.

Michelle, thanks so much! It was my pleasure to feature your pretty patchwork dress! And yes, slide sandals are my go to footwear these days as well. I have three pairs (pink, black, and leopard) sitting by the front door so I can choose the pair that best matches what I am wearing as I run outside for something!

Maureen
It’s a cute outfit Shelbee. The kimono and booties really make you black dress pop! I haven’t been wearing much shoes either. Unless we go to the grocery store, I don’t see a point. Plus, way too hot where we live to be enticed! Oh and we also watched Neowise (albeit on TV) but fun to see nonetheless! I hope you are well and happy Wednesday!
Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Maureen, thank you so much! I feel like it has been super hot everywhere this summer! It is finally cooling off here to the low 80’s (which is still too hot for my taste). I bet it was cool to see Neowise on tv. It was probably much clearer with proper equipment that the broadcasters use. Have a great day!
