Weekend Fun at Stony Fork Music Festival & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #667

We attended our second Bluegrass festival of the season last weekend and a great time was had by all. Outdoor camping adventures are always interesting. No matter how prepared you think you are, something always comes up that you are not prepared for. Fortunately, we tend to embrace things of this sort as memory makers. Who really remembers the mundane things that go as expected anyway? It is the unexpected things that we have to thrive through that stick in our memories.

The last time I attended a festival at Stony Fork Creek Campground was Hickory Fest in 2019. That weekend had its own share of mishaps that created fond and lasting memories. Little did any of us know that it would be the final Hickory Fest. I am just grateful that I got to be a part of that very special event.

We only went for the final night of the festival, specifically to see our dear friends Fireside Collective. I have been asking them for years to get some kimonos with their band logo in their merch store because I really wanted one. They wouldn’t listen so I made my own from an old kimono (coincidentally, the exact same one I wore to Hickory Fest in 2019) and an old band tee shirt. I just cut out the graphic from the tee and stitched it onto the back of the kimono. And I love it!

When we arrived at the festival grounds and were setting up our chairs, one band member snuck up behind me and said, “Hey, what kind of trademark infringement is this?!” Then I was escorted off to show my kimono to their merch guy who is now on the hunt for kimonos to be added to the band’s merch store! Hopefully, I will have a new Fireside Collective kimono in my collection soon!

My dress is actually this thrifted maxi skirt but I think it might actually be a dress that I was wearing as a maxi skirt! I have no idea which it is supposed to be so I can wear it as either. It just takes a tiny bit of creative thinking to view your wardrobe pieces as something other than their intended purpose. A dress can be a skirt. A shirt can be a dress. A scarf can be a top. A kimono can be a dress. I did pin the front of my kimono closed because my bralette straps were showing and I didn’t like the way it looked. I was comfortable and felt very festivally!

The last time I stayed at this campground, I had the privilege of staying in a cabin with my musician friends. This time, we had a campsite way out in the woods about 1/2 mile from the festival stage. There was a babbling brook right beside our site which my kids loved. The campground also had a small pond for paddle boating, a pool, and a game room. We will definitely be going back for more than one night next time!

Our memory making mishap on this trip was the giant hole in our air mattress. The kids each have a single air mattress and Jeff and I share a queen sized air mattress. Because we only went for one night, we didn’t bring any of cooking gear which is where we stored the air mattress patch kit. And since it was the last night of the festival, the gift shop was all sold out of their patch kits. So Jeff kicked into military mode and slept on the rolled up flattened air mattress with some blankets for padding and I slept in the car. Another memory making moment was the 1/2 mile walk back to our campsite at midnight with two very sleepy children.

This trip was the final one of our summer excursions. The in-laws are arriving next week to spend the last week of summer vacation with the boys. They return to school on September 7 and I get to reclaim some of my sanity!

I just leave it with wishing you a happy weekend. I just have to destress and find a way to catch up for 3 lost hours. Thank you for your support love.

Thank you, my friend. As stressful as this morning was, once you finally have that box in your hands, we will be able to laugh that your package traveled through a magical portal where mysterious address changes occur! LOL I hope you have a lovely weekend and a very relaxing vacation.

Your kimono mod is genius! They totally should’ve hired you to revamp their merch booth.

I had to giggle at your mishap. When The Hubs and I used to camp, I called our mishaps “Memory Makers.” At the time, it felt awful but, looking back, it’s actually quite funny and adds to your memories. Like, there was the time The Hubs parked the RV on a slight incline and forgot to set the brake… I watched as he ran down the hill and eventually caught it.

Thanks so much, Daenel! I have been gifting the band shirts for a few years and now with my new kimono, they have coined me their unofficial and unpaid stylist. Haha. Mishaps really are memory makers! I can’t believe RV rolled away. OMG! That must have been so scary while it was happening but super funny since it all ended well!

You look quite festivally! And beautiful. Brilliant on the kimono remake. I guess you just needed to show the merch guys how cool it could be. 😄

And thanks for the shout out on my new blog. I’m having a blast creating art on my iPad.

Thank you so much for featuring my post from last week. ‘A large bosom’ is not my issue so happy to rely on my readers’ to report their problems and attempt to deal with them!!
Looks like a great family fun weekend, all kids remember the wacky times best!

Pamela, thanks so much! I do have a large bosom so I always appreciate posts of this sort. My kids are definitely festival kids at their core. Although they don’t love the sleeping part of camping either, just like me! I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend.

Sounds like a wonderfully relaxing family trip, except for the sleeping in the car part! The park looks like a beautiful spot to hold a music festival, and your boho outfit is perfect. Love that your creative kimono got noticed. Thanks for the favorite, and for sharing your adventure!

Thank you, Di! I actually didn’t mind sleeping in the car. I slept better than I usually do in the tent. It is a wonderful campground. I do really enjoy our camping trips except for the sleeping part! I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend!

Was it even a vacation if something didn’t go wrong? That seems to always be our MO! I’m glad yours was easily taken care of. I love that you took your kimono and tee and made it into what you were looking for! You should get a percentage of the kimonos they sell…just kidding…or, am I?

I hope you have a fabulous week!

Shelbee, I’m so glad you stopped by SYS!!! Love your kimono outfit and what a great idea to cut up an old shirt and use the band’s logo! Really fun idea!!! I so wanted to go camping this year when we went up to South Dakota to see our son and his family. It was great being there with our grandson (we played dinosaurs!!!) and I hoped we had time to go over to Mt. Rushmore area to camp (even if it was going to be cabin camping), but not this year… 🙁

I’m grateful for your photos with the sunsets, the pool, the boys!!! Pinned several photos of course to my Road Trip, SYS, and Fun & Funky Fashions boards. <3 What a great end of summer trip!!!

Hope you had a nice visit with your inlaws. Looking forward to seeing what fun fashions you have for fall,
    Hugs,
    Barb 🙂

Aw, Barb, thanks so much! We really do have so much fun on our camping trips. I just hate the sleeping part! I am much better off in a bed, specifically my bed in my bedroom! Haha. I bet camping near Mount Rushmore would be a really cool experience. I have never traveled to the part of the country. Maybe you will get that camping trip in during your next visit with your son and his family! I hope you have a most wonderful weekend ahead, my friend!
