What to Wear for a (Sex) Interview
*Disclaimer: This post discusses sex and sexual fantasies (as well as sexual realities) on a general level. It does not include graphic details but it does use language that is of a sexual nature. My intent is to share my story not to offend or persuade anyone. So if you are highly uncomfortable with intimate topics like this, I will not be offended if you skip reading. However, if you are only mildly uncomfortable, it may be worth reading just to view a different perspective. Back in June, I decided it was finally time for this 47 year young woman to reclaim my sexuality and enjoy my body and the…

All About Shackets | October Stylish Monday Link Up
The shacket is one of the newest hybrid terms in fashion right now. A combination of a shirt and a jacket in a culture where we have become too lazy to pronounce full words. I started wearing oversized flannel shirts as jackets back in the 1990’s at the height of the grunge era in music and fashion. I don’t think we were as apathetic 30 years ago as we are now and so we had no problems referring to our wardrobe pieces using full untruncated words and phrases. While shortening phrases into hybrid terms for ease might be a silly notion, newly formed words often find their way straight into…

Complimenting Strangers & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #243
Have you ever received a totally unexpected compliment from a stranger? It really boosts your mood regardless of the mood you are in. If you are feeling kind of crummy, a random compliment from a passer by might be just enough to start you smiling for the day. And if you are already feeling fabulous, kind words from a fellow human will simply solidify that fantastic feeling for the rest of the day. I was wearing a really fun dress the other day (I will share it tomorrow for this week’s Style Imitating Art post). While I was walking home from school with Ralph, we passed by a small cluster…

An Easy Early Fall Outfit & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #242
It is my favorite time of year when the season transitions from summer to fall. I love when the temperature begins to drop just enough that a lightweight sweater is comfortable but you can still wear sandals and allow your toes to enjoy the last bit of warmth that the early autumn sun grants us. We only get a few weeks of this kind of weather in the North Country before boots and coats and hats and scarves are daily necessities. I found this mossy green striped sweater at Old Navy back in the early spring. I was actually done shopping and heading to the register when I spotted it.…

The Fab 40’s are Channeling 80’s Pop Icons
Last month, it was Candy Crush that inspired our outfits. This month, we have completely shifted gears with Suzy‘s chosen style prompt of 80’s Pop Icons. When I think of the 1980’s and Pop Icons, Madonna immediately comes to mind. Remember her outfit from the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards when she performed Like A Virgin in her sexy corseted wedding dress with piles of pearls around her neck? I have always admired this woman’s willingness to take all the risks to get what she wants. And she certainly knows how to make a powerful statement with her wardrobe choices, too. Always on the frontier of edgy fashion, she made…

The Thrifty Six are Simply Striped
There is nothing quite like a big, bold, black and white prison-style striped pattern to make yourself visible. In fact, that was the sole purpose of striped patterns when they first made their appearance in woven textiles…their visibility. Stripes are one of the first patterns in woven textiles which have been in continuous use in the apparel industry since the beginning. Stripes are also a gender neutral, timelessly classic print that is just as acceptable on an infant as it is on an octogenarian. Stripes go with everything including other stripes and lend themselves to many creative combinations within my very own closet. However, five hundred years ago, I could…
