The Velvet Trend with Zan.Style & Link Up On the Edge #67
I know some women my age who grew up in the late 80’s-early 90’s have some mixed emotions about the velvet trend that has taken over the fashion world the past few years. For me, I simply cannot get enough of it. Whether I see it in warm autumn hues, cool jewel tones, or soft pastels on shirts, pants, dresses, or shoes…I pretty much feel the burning urge to have it all. I have quite a few velvet pieces that I picked up last year at the end of the winter season when it was all on clearance, so you can bet my velvet clad bottom that you are going to start seeing lots of this luxurious fabric showing up on my blog.
*This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
*Shirt: Long Sleeve Button Front Velvet Shirt – Blackish Green ($100.00) c/o Zan.Style.
A few weeks back, I introduced you all to Zan.Style, a new online retailer created by a “group of fashion thinkers and stylistic creators who craved what we were missing: quality fashion that could adapt to our attitude, and to our personal lifestyle.” Zan.Style offers “modern apparel that showcases our unique identity and individual personality because a great style allows us to be more than who we are.” Check out my wish list of favorite pieces from Zan.Style.
*Jeans: Torrid Premium Ultimate Stretch Jeggings – Medium Wash with Fading ($56.17).
First, let me talk about the fabric on this top. It is so soft and has enough stretch to make it super comfortable for all day wearability. I am absolutely in love with the dark green color, making it the perfect top for fall festivities. For size reference, I order the XXXL (the largest size available) and it is a little snug across the bust and the shoulders. I solved the gaping button issue by adding a lace bralette underneath and leaving the top buttons undone. The open neckline begged for a bold vintage inspired statement necklace.
*Necklace: Vintage Inspired Black Stone Statement Necklace ($23.11) c/o Happiness Boutique.
I am thinking this top is going to make its way through my outfit rotation quite frequently through the holiday season. It works great with jeans and heels. But I am also thinking of pairing it with a chic pencil skirt and some sassy boots. Or even layered as a jacket over a slip dress.
*Bralette: Torrid Crop Lace Bralette ($21.67).
How do you all feel about the velvet trend? If you are on board, what are your favorite velvet pieces to wear? What’s on your wish list this season?
*Shoes: Impo Tyra Pump from DSW (Sold Out). Similar options here, here, and here.

Shelbee, I love the velvet trend too. I have a blazer, a couple of tops and hope to add a few more things eventually. It is such a fun fabric and as you say can be dressed up or down. Love what you did with this outfit. Those shoes are the perfect finisher. Have a great weekend. – Amy

Amy, thank you so much! I have a few blazers in velvet, too, and they are definitely favorites of mine (I have had them for years)…which reminds me, I need to photograph a blazer outfit for December’s How I Wear My series with Adrienne (The Rich Life in Wine Country) and Jill(Everything Just So)! Thanks so much, Debbie! I always have loved all velvet and velour, too. Although I am more partial to velvet than I am to velour. I have a few velvet blazers that I thrifted years ago that make their way out every fall/winter. I just wish I still had some of the velvet pieces that I had back in the 90’s…all vintage and stuff! Now I want to go thrifting! Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a fabulous weekend.

Kathrine, thank you so much! Okay, so these bralettes are like a must have and I wear them so often. I have 5 different ones and I totally need more! They are so much better than a camisole. There will be more velvet coming to my blog this season, I’m sure. Have a great weekend, my friend.

Velvet is timeless. It’s always a great look for fall/winter, no matter whether it’s trending or not. I have a burnout velvet top and skirt from the 90s that I’ve been wearing, well, since the 90s! I never grow tired of the feel of that fabric.
That top is gorgeous and I absolutely love the color. You are going to get lots of mileage out of that beauty! And I’m really digging those shoes worn with the fishnets.
Theresa

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Theresa, I agree with you completely about the timelessness of velvet. I just wish I still had some of my velvet pieces from the 90’s. Although they probably would not fit anymore! But I would figure out some way to repurpose them if I had them. Ah well. I do have some gorgeous velvet blazers that I thrifted years ago that are in frequent rotation. They may be from the 90’s! Thanks so much for stopping by and for the lovely comment. Have a fabulous weekend.

Love those heels, especially with the netting socks! I’m not a super big fan of velvet on myself (usually it makes me sneeze!) But I did find a top I liked that I am going to have to wear one of these days.

Mary, thank you for the loverly compliment! And I have to apologize that I laughed a little at velvet making you sneeze! I wonder what on earth about the fabric causes you to sneeze. Is it the only fabric that causes this reaction? And if you are allergic to it, then maybe you shouldn’t wear it! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Velvet and I, we’re like that close (insert appropriate emoji to represent a tight-knit sisterhood) and I would wear in all colours, all shapes, all styles. From a turban on my head to the heeled booties on my feet GRIN that shirt looks gorgeous on you, Shelbee, that green is working magic on your complexion and that jet black hair of yours. I can imagine you wearing it under a corset or bustier too, incidentally, with the buttons undone in the middle (no one can see them, and it’s so much more comfy) with a sassy pleated skirt. The shorter the merrier xoxo
