The Thrifty Six: Inspired by Taylor Swift Eras
Taylor Swift has been making headlines everywhere because of her current Eras Tour as well as her budding new romance with Kansas City Chiefs footballer Travis Kelce. So it seemed like perfect timing when Grace chose Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as our inspiration for this month’s Thrifty Six style challenge. Last October, I shared another Taylor Swift inspired outfit for a Songful Style challenge but none of those outfit components were thrifted or preloved. So I was excited to create another Taylor inspired look using only secondhand or preloved items.
The Eras Tour takes us on a journey through Taylor Swift’s 17 years in the music industry with a tiny focus her style evolution. I consulted this article, The Ultimate Taylor Swift Eras Tour Outfit Idea Guide, to educate myself about Taylor’s different fashion aesthetics over the years. I landed on her Debut Era for my inspiration. Her Debut Era was marked by a primarily casual style with Taylor sporting short, flirty sundresses and cowgirl boots both on and off stage.
Excited as I was to style a flirty sundress with cowgirl boots, I was a little stuck finding preloved items besides my cowgirl boots to incorporate into this outfit. Then I spotted this lacy burgundy dress that I had picked up at the consignment shop about 5 years ago and have never worn it. I am not sure why because it is wicked cute! And it coordinated perfectly with one of my very few preloved kimonos. Most of my abundant kimono collection was purchased at retail. I rarely see kimonos in thrift shops but when I do, I scoop them up right quick! This burgundy paisley kimono is so pretty and so perfect for this challenge.
I completed my outfit with my favorite pair of thrifted cowgirl boots and a matching belt. I love the two shades of brown and how beautifully they coordinate with the deep burgundy colors of my dress and kimono. A crystal necklace and feather earrings kept the look true to my bohemian style.
This was another successful style challenge as I really loved the final outfit. I wore it all day and felt really feminine and pretty wearing it. Ralph was my photographer for these photos and when I was going through the pictures, I found these hilarious selfies in the mix!
Now let’s see how Taylor Swift has inspired my thrifty friends’ style.
The Thrifty Six is a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features preloved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling preloved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand!

On stage she seems to love sparkle which reminds me of a vintage showgirl bustier I have.
This amazing silver and gunmetal number is intricately spangled and bejewelled within an inch of its life…
…and adorned with beaded tassels, each finished off with a tiny bell!
It truly is a remarkable piece; I believe it’s handmade and probably dates back to the 1960’s or maybe even in the 50’s.
When I came across it, the condition was terrible; I had to remove the bra fastenings from the back but luckily I was able to save the fun part by attaching it to a plain black bodysuit.
So it lives on as part of my vintage eveningwear collection and is very happy to make an appearance celebrating Taylor Swift’s Eras tour!”

I have to confess that I am a bit stumped about this Eras Tour. Is it a live show or is it a filmed version of a live show? It’s in movie theaters everywhere but there are also live concert dates on her website but with no pricing and no way to purchase tickets online. Maybe every show is sold out? I did find some tickets on one site which I can no longer find and the cheapest seats available were around $1,200 per ticket. Do regular people actually spend that amount of money to go see one live performance? That is absolutely insane to me.
One important lesson I learned from this challenge is that if you are a Swifty, you need to be thrifty!
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

Hahaha, how did you come up with that last sentence? That’s a good one. What a prices for a concert! It was a very difficult theme! But fun!

Hahahahaha, it just came to me and it cracked me up! Isn’t that a crazy amount of money for a concert? We saw the best freaking show last night (Here Come the Mummies) for only $40 so I just don’t get it! This was super challenging but really, really fun!

I love that you included inspiration photos for everyone Shelbee…nice job.
It was serendipitous that the movie is now out but I didn’t realize it would be such a hit. It’s crazy how popular she is,
I can’t wait to see what your theme is going to be next month. i already know mine for next February because I had someone email me a suggestion!!

Thanks so much, Jodie! After you sent the inspiration photo with yours, I couldn’t resist adding them in for everyone! I am not a big fan of Taylor Swift’s music, but I am a huge fan of her as a successful business woman in the entertainment industry. Not only is she super talented and very stylish, she definitely knows how to work the patriarchal system to her benefit. A true example of girl power! Next up…Absurdity! Hehehe. I am really looking forward to your reader request theme for February!

I didn’t realize there were so many Eras of Taylor Swift! I love how you are always able to pull together disparate things and make a fabulous outfit, Shelbee! Love the fringe on your shawl. And, Archie’s selfies…priceless!
Apparently, the movie is a recording of one of her concerts. My son took his wife, daughter and a friend to see it. They thought it was well done and all they needed to see. I’ve heard of tickets going for even higher than that! Crazy, right?

Marsha, thank you so much! I sometimes feel like my super power is taking disparate things and combining them in fabulous ways! I have always been drawn to the weird, strange, and unlikely. So Taylor Swift is currently not on tour, it is just a movie tour so to speak? She might really be the economic genius that people have called her! She’s just raking in the money for one show played on repeat in movie theaters while she’s hanging at football games with her new boyfriend. Brilliant, brilliant woman!

Looking very nice. You are a Swifty.

Thanks, Patrick! I am not a Swifty! LOL Actually, I admire her very much for her talents and business savviness. I don’t really listen to her music though. It’s not quite my jam.
