It was Grace’s turn to choose a style theme for August’s thrifty collaboration where 6 international fashion lovers join together to show you how to be stylish on a budget while also doing something good for our planet.

Tossed away clothing drastically contributes to our landfill problem while the overproduction of clothing required to sustain our throw-away culture dramatically impacts our climate change issue. Too many clothes, and too many new clothes in particular, are a real problem. I am just as bad as any other consumer who has fallen prey to the fast fashion monsters. It is an addiction that retailers tapped into a few generations back and they got so many of us hooked on the overindulgence of cheap clothing that once we realized how bad it all is for the environment it was almost too late. But almost too late is not too late, I think. I hope. And so I am trying to be better and if I am going to keep buying things, then at least I can buy things that already exist instead of contributing to the need for more new production of clothing that ultimately ends up in a landfill.

Well, that’s enough of my ranting, let me jump off my soapbox and into my jumpsuit. Ha. That’s the theme this month…Jumpsuits!

I must admit that I am not a big fan of jumpsuits…on me. I find them adorable on others. They just never seem to fit my body quite right. I am very long waisted and most jumpsuits and rompers that I have encountered are not. I have a few pairs of overalls which I consider a different type of garment from jumpsuits and I had a few rompers which are just a short version of a jumpsuit. I recently donated all of my rompers except my Always Proud romper because I never felt comfortable in them. But since my Always Proud romper was not preloved it wouldn’t work for this thrifty challenge.

I have one additional jumpsuit in my closet which is off season and also not thrifted so my only styling option for this challenge was my thrifted white eyelet jumpsuit by Zara. I first showed this jumpsuit when The Magnificent 8 shared thrifted and preloved outfits and then I winterized it in a bold black and white outfit to test its versatility.

When Grace first announced her theme choice, I contemplated a thrift shopping trip but thought it was better to challenge myself to style this jumpsuit a third way. I wanted to pair it with at least one other preloved item so I reached for my mint green polka dot kimono which you have seen before styled over a romper (one that recently got donated) for a Thrifty 6 collaboration of Creative Cover Ups. And most recently, I wore his kimono for a Style Imitating Art challenge…”Strawberry Tea Set” by Childe Hassam.

I accessorized with mint green braided sandals from Shein, a super old minty braided belt, green beaded earrings, and my green owl necklace made by Michelle of My Bijou Life which I styled last month for our Garden Party theme as well as another Style Imitating Art challenge…Leisure Lady (with Ocelots) by Yinka Shonibare.

One thing I realized about styling this eyelet jumpsuit is that it looks best on my frame with a belt and a long top layer. So if you like the look of jumpsuits but struggle with styling them on your body, try some different tricks before giving up. And check out your local thrift and consignment shops especially if you are unsure of a style or trend and don’t want to spend a lot of money to give it a trial run. If it doesn’t work out, you can just donate it or resell the garment after you gave it a try.

Now let’s check out my thrifty friends in their preloved jumpsuits.

The Thrifty Six is a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features preloved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling preloved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand!

“I found this jumpsuit in a charity shop a while back for only £6! It fits perfectly and is so comfortable. I’ve featured it on the blog a couple of times before…well, repeating outfits is thrifty after all! For a bold colour contrast I’ve teamed it with a green vegan leather bag and jacket, plus a green bangle that I also bought in a charity shop.”

“I chose jumpsuits as this month’s thrifty theme a while back, I imagine with a particular outfit in mind… But by the time I actually went to photograph a look, I had no idea why I chose this theme! I ended up restyling this scarlet jumpsuit that I wore for our monochrome thrifty post a few months ago. I dressed it down to transition it into fall, pairing it with a denim jacket, flat sandals, and a fun leopard belt.”

“Rompers are the theme this August for the Thrifty Six…
…I’m romping through the enchanted forest in the magical morning light.
Sunrays cast arcs in shades of neon chartreuse…
…I add a dreamlike ambience with my fairy bubbles.
I wear my super swishy, soft and sensational slouch suit – it’s the rompiest romper I’ve ever seen!”

“You all know how animal print is always my print of preference- so how could I resist this cutest of jumpsuits? I purchased it from La Retro Girl Vintage who has some of the best vintage collections ever. I love the sailor back collar with the sweet fringe detail. But what I think I love most is how ample and freeing this style is!”

“So I had been looking for the perfect jumpsuit for a few seasons. And couldn’t find anything. And then you are “forced” to quickly find one, because Grace chose it as our theme, and then it turns out to be the perfect one! The color is beautiful, the legs are tapered and cropped, I like that, good sleeve length, the waist in the correct place. Everything about this jumpsuit is just right for me. And it’s also like new! It’s a beautiful shade of green, dark olive green, and that colour combines so perfectly with pink. But I could not resist adding a bit of gold too! Thanks Grace! Because I wouldn’t have bought this one without you!”

“I only have one jumpsuit in my wardrobe and thankfully it was thrifted! It’s white eyelet by Zara and I paired it with my preloved polka dot kimono in minty green with coordinating sandals and belt. My green beaded owl necklace is handmade and was gifted to me by Michelle of My Bijou Life. This is the third time I have styled this jumpsuit and it is proving to be much more versatile than I expected.”
