The Magnificent 8: Hello, Yellow!
We are back with a fun theme for summertime…Hello, Yellow! But before we get to all that, let me introduce you all to our newest group member, Mica from Away from the Blue! We are so glad that she will be joining us each quarter as one of the Magnificent 8. Mica lives in Australia which has opposite seasons from all of the other members of this group. While it is summer here, it is winter for Mica. I am excited for that bit of seasonal diversity with our quarterly style prompts! We will also have to keep this in mind when choosing style prompts as well. I don’t think Mica wants to style swimwear in the middle of winter! That was our style prompt for our very first group post two years ago in July of 2018.
Unfortunately, Michelle of Michelle’s Pa(i)ge is no longer able to participate with us, but be sure to keep visiting her blog as well for lots of fabulous fashion inspiration.
Now let’s get to it! We chose Hello, Yellow as our theme for July because it is such a vibrant and happy color but it is also probably the most difficult color for many people to style. After months in lockdown mode, we decided that we were up for the challenge. Plus I think we all were craving a giant splash of bright color for a little uplifting of the spirits.
It always amazes me how much the colors I wear impact my mood. I have a tendency to grab for darker, more muted colors which are great and I love them. However, I do notice a shift in my spirit when I don something bright and colorful. Yellow is an incredibly difficult color for me to wear with my complexion. But it makes me happy so sometimes I wear it anyway.
I found this yellow floral midi dress at Old Navy a lot of years back. I don’t think the color or the style of the dress is particularly flattering on me, but who freaking cares? It still made me smile all day long. Plus it is a really comfortable dress.
I added the crochet duster vest to sort of break up all the yellow a little bit. I am not sure if it worked as well as I had hoped! I will admit that I struggled with this outfit and this theme and was about to just return to an all black outfit with yellow sandals. But I sort of felt like I would be taking the easy way out if I did that. I am not an easy way out kind of girl so a bit more yellow was required of me. And this is what I have for you today…an okay outfit with a whole lot of happy color!
The Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among 8 stylish women, each in a different age bracket, ranging from early 20’s to early 80’s. The mission of this collaboration is to show you just how ageless style is, how we can each dress however we’d like and in ways that make us feel fabulous. There are no age restrictions on style. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. And be sure to check out all 7 of these amazing gals!
Every quarter, we choose a theme and each create an outfit that suits our own personal tastes and fashion choices and we post them on the last Wednesday of every third month. So be sure to go check out everyone’s posts for lots of style inspiration at any age!
Let me introduce the ladies of The Magnificent 8.

I never liked yellow that much. But this season I like it more and more. It’s because of my yellow ankle boots I think, lol. Yellow looks very good with your dark hair!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Nancy! I love the color yellow because it makes me smile but it definitely isn’t a color I wear often. Your yellow ankle boots are so great! I want a pair!

That is such a fab dress and I think it looks great on you! Yellow is definitely the most cheerful colour to wear 🙂
Thanks so much for the sweet introduction! I’m so thrilled to join in with you lovely ladies! We had some warmer weather and then it was back to typical winter so I do have a few more layers in my yellow outfits, haha!
Hope that your week is going well 🙂

Mica, thanks so much! I am so excited to have you on board with us! This is such a fun group and there is so little pressure since we only post quarterly. I will be making my rounds to everyone’s posts shortly! I can’t wait to see all the fun yellow styles you all came up with. Have a fantastic day!

It’s funny how you say that it might not be your color Shelbee, because it doesn’t show that in these photos. There is so much psychology around color that I know the happy colors are good for us.

Thanks, Jodie! I do love the color yellow because it is so bright and cheerful! And yellow and blue is such a great combination. I know that is Lesley’s favorite. I have always had at least one room in my house in those colors except my current house! I may have to change that. And while it is not my absolute favorite color to wear, I do love it and will wear it occasionally. This was such a great summer theme and everyone did amazing with it!

I’m going to have to disagree with you regarding yellow – at least this shade – being an unflattering color on you. I always love your outfits, but this is one of my favorites! The yellow looks stunning with your dark hair. I love the dress! I love how you look in the dress! And the crocheted duster is a lovely touch. It’s gorgeous!

Thanks so much, Michelle! As long as the yellow has some blue undertones or blue in the print, I can usually pull it off okay. But still it is not my favorite color to wear even though it is a favorite color for making me happy!

I actually really like yellow on you, at least in this shade: it looks great with your hair and complexion too! Love it!

Thank you, Mireille! I can usually wear yellow if it has blue undertones. While it is certainly not the best color on me, it isn’t terrible either. So I wear it occasionally because it makes me smile!

I really love the duster you added! A wide belt would totally work with this dress, too! I absolutely love our quarterly collabs – so happy we’re friends in the blogosphere <3

Roxanne, thank you so much! I am so glad that we are blogger friends as well! You know, I had tried a skinny belt with the dress and then bloused the top and it just made me look very top heavy. I hadn’t thought to try a wide belt. I need to try that because I never feel like this dress is super flattering. A wide belt might be the answer! Thanks!

Angie
Hi, Shelbee – I hardly ever wear yellow, but only because I just about always wear blue greens and corals. I even did a wardrobe clearing by only putting the blue greens and corals in my closet with my best neutrals. I actually moved all the blacks out! Not that I never wear the blacks but now it’s an afterthought because the blue greens and corals are what look me in the eye and they all go with everything in my closet now! Anyway, I notice how perfect it is to choose jewelry and accessories to go with the accent color in your print. The yellow dress is punctuated by blue and the accessories add to the little bit of punctuation. Nice! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

Angie, thank you so much! I love the way you approached your closet organization. That is a really cool idea! I am in the process of a major clothing clean out and I have been brainstorming ideas for organization. I may have to consider something like what you have done. Have a fantastic day!

You look so comfy & Chic in this dress. I’m not a big yellow fan but lately I like to wear it. You always look happy in all your posts so keep it up!!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Neti, thank you so much! I love the cheeriness of yellow and really, really like it in certain home decor (bathrooms and kitchens mostly). But it is fun to wear this color every once in a while as well. Have a lovely day!

I find yellow tricky too although I do love it – I found a nice pair of yellow pants which give me a yellow fix. The dres is very pretty, looks great with the wedges!

Thank you, Gail! It is a tricky color to wear, but I love it, too. It is so cheerful. I have been finding more of it in my closet than I expected!

As you know I loved this outfit so much and featured it on my Thursday Moda last week, I even have a long-sleeve blouse on this print. Love the bohemian way with those fun wedges and the fun crochet vest. This year Old Navy has another fun floral yellow print, I got Vivian a Romper in it. So glad Mica has joined you ladies too, I cannot believe she is only in her 20s. But if you want a guest blogger in October let me know!
P.S. Yellow is one of my most favorite colors. It is so bright and happy!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Ada! This is a super fun dress! I haven’t shopped at all recently and after going through all of my clothes, I definitely do not need to be shopping for anything right now! I have too much stuff. And I am not sure how old Mica is, to be honest! We got rid of the decade specifications in that group because everyone was aging into the next decade. We have never had guest bloggers in this group before, but I will let you know if we ever go that route. Thanks again for featuring my yellow dress!
