The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-November 2018-Boots

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. Over a year ago, Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after running that series for a year, we decided to change it a bit.

For this series, you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

Let’s start with my beautiful co-host, Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style, showing us the first of this month’s theme, Boots! Nancy has a Good-Bye this time around.

“These red boots are clearly Good-Bye boots. In the photo, I was wearing them for the first time and see what happened. I threw them away immediately.”

Carmela of Bellissimamma shared Good Buy boots that she and her cousin wore when in Rome…because when in Rome, fabulous boots are a must!

Carmela of Bellissimamma

“I met up with my cousin in Rome. She was wearing beige ankle boots while I was wearing black combat boots. The beige ankle boots are definitely a good buy because they go well with almost any outfit. My combat boots are also a good buy because they’re so comfortable and they can make any outfit look cool. Both our boots survived the cobblestone streets of Rome, haha! Her boots are obviously designer ones while mine are from the OVS store. My boots are super cheap but super sturdy.”

Next is Nancy of Jodie’s Touch of Style with her Good Buy booties. Be sure to visit Nancy’s post to see Jodie’s and Charlotte’s Good Buy Boots!

“This is Nancy (the 70+ model) who is embracing the ankle boots with a skirt trend. A leather skirt no less!! See? It really is NEVER too late to look great.”

And now Suzy of Suzy Turner Pixie Chick in Portugal with her Good Buy Boots.

“I bought these Timberland boots years ago and they are, hands down, the best boots I’ve ever owned. They’re as comfortable as slippers and I’ll be devastated when they eventually wear out!”

Next is Nicole of High Latitude Style with her Good Buy Dior boots.

“Let’s face it ladies. Dior is way out of our league – money wise – when it comes to items that are larger than a neckerchief or Miss Dior as the eau de cologne version. I am a frugal shopper and shop for more expensive wardrobe basics off season on eBay. I was looking for some OTK-boots when I saw these Dior OTK boots for just $500 in my size! And this prize was my upper limit I had set for my purchase. What a good buy!”

Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag shared her Good Buy boots from Jambu.

“My Jambu Rimini booties are by far the most comfortable flat booties I have ever owned and they are so stylish! I get compliments when I wear them, I love them!”

(This picture speaks volumes! I love it!)

Liz of Closet Play Image loves her boots so much that she shared 4 pairs total!  Be sure to check Nancy’s post to see the others.

“As for boots, I am a boot girl! I grew up in the Midwest (Read cold, wet, snowy winters) and now I live in a place that I’m lucky if I get to wear boots four months out of the year. (And a sadness fell over the land.) I’m not sure there can be a Good-Bye boot in my book! Although there was a painful pair that I no longer own, nor do I have a picture of me in them. Give me a dress and some boots and I am one happy girl!”

“This was a trendy splurge that I do not regret! I picked these up at the end of summer, and although we’re just entering boot season, I’m loving them. I don’t do a lot of trendy clothes, but these white booties make everything feel modern and sleek, even if they don’t ‘go’ with anything I own. I’m loving them with my trusty old Levi’s (Preventing too much Canadian Tuxedo feel.) and with my white jeans. No, they don’t match, but I like how all the shades of white blend and make it feel less sterile.

The booties and dress was one of those days I let my inner toddler dress me, and was really happy with how it turned out! It may not be the most stylish or flattering, but I felt totally, comfortably, and perfectly me. All day long. It ended up featuring in my post, Why Am I So Dressed Up?, along with the double denim fest!”

“Best Ever Gift from my son, Evan, and daughter-in-law, Megan for my birthday a few years ago… Badass Rainboots. ‘Nuff said.”

And now my Good Buy Boots…Combat Boots, of course! You all know how I love my combat boots. Be sure to stop by tomorrow to see some fabulous over the knee combat boots that I am sharing for our Tall Boots theme with Monica for the Your Own Twist Link Up.

Original Post

“My tall combat boots are definitely a good buy. I have had these boots for such a long time that I can’t remember when or where I got them. The hearken me back to my Goth roots and I take comfort in knowing they are always waiting for me in the back of my closet whenever I need a little edge and nostalgia. Plus they are super comfortable and have survived many harsh winters with me!”

Original Post

“My husband bought me these Army tanker boots years ago (before we were even married) and I just love that they are actual combat boots. The wrap around strap instead of laces is my favorite think about these boots!”

That’s all we’ve got for Boots for this issue of The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. The theme for December will be Scarves and Other Winter Accessories! Be sure to send us your favorite (or least favorite) cold weather accessories…scarves, gloves, mittens, hats, snoods, muffs, wraps, anything will do!

Boooooots!!! Come to me, come to me!! I want them all.
Loving the combat boots, all of them. Contemplating a black pair, as you can never have enough black boots. And if they are that comfy and sturdy, hmmm…. The white boots are very cute, but white and me don’t do that well, particularly in the winter. The Roman boots are both wonderful, but Rome!!! I am also very happy to have gotten zipperless Burgundy boots, and loving all flat boots everywhere, but particularly the ones in my closet. You have a wonderful collection of tights, Shelbee, and I love your last outfit, with the plaid shirt.

Susan, you and I are so much alike with our love for all the boots! Seriously, I can’t get enough. I have countless pairs of black boots and still find ones that I need to have! I also now have 4 pairs of white booties…all unique and special in their own way! Haha. Give me all the boots, too. I need an entire house just for my boot collection.

Haha, thanks so much, Kellyann! You might get injured if you tried to play in my closet! I am just waiting for the day I suffer a concussion from a pile of shoe boxes falling on my head! Thanks so much for joining us with your boots and your fabulously fun photo this month!

Shelbee, love both of your BA boots… Some days just require a little BA-ery! I was eyeing a pair like Carmela’s today and put them back on the shelf. I may be regretting that now. Nancy, I’m so sad about your Good-Bye, they were darling. Too bad they were so poorly made!

So many Good Buys to choose from, and so many lovely ladies rocking their boots at every age! Just like wine and fabulous boots, we just get better with age!

  • Carmela

Love the Good Buy Boots you modeled, ladies! The red boots look so cute…wish they were sturdier! You rock gals! Thanks for hosting this fun monthly series—can’t wait for December! 🙂 I wonder what the next topic will be? xoxo
