The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Holiday Gifts

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and myself. Every month, we invite you to share a photo or two of your Good (or Bad) Buy items that fit the stated theme. We ask that you also provide a short description explaining if the item you are sharing was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to (formerly known as Bad Buys). Nancy and I will both publish a round up post featuring all of the submissions on the 15th of each month.

Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description via email. You do not have to be a blogger to join. Anyone is welcome! We will give you the theme for the next month at the conclusion of each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month.

We went in a different direction for January’s post-holiday theme by inviting you to share your favorite (or least favorite) gifts that you have either received or given to someone for a special holiday occasion. It could be a gift given or received for Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter, or Valentine’s Day, a birthday, engagement, wedding, or anniversary, or any other occasion that you deem a holiday!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this month. If you sent me a photo, but do not see it in my post, be sure to check Nancy’s post. If you don’t see your photo in either post, please let us know right away and we will add it. Sometimes the submissions can get lost in the shuffle.

“We do secret Santa at our home. This year my oldest sister drew my name and re-gifted her ice skates to me. Last year she broke her ankle and can never skate again. I love to skate but my hockey skates are no more after 10 years so her gift couldn’t have been better. The outdoor rink is across the street so I am having a fantastic time learning how to skate in figure skates. The toe picks are really hard to get used to.”

“Here’s my good buy gift. The top was made by my mom for me, and the pants were given to me as a hand-me-down gift!!! This was the first time I wore them together and I loved the color combination.”

“Several years ago, my kids bought me a photo session for family pictures. It had been snowing, and it was really cold. At the last minute, the photographer asked if we could try a couple outside. This is the result. Across the frozen lake in the background is the lake lot my parents owned when I was a kid. We spent lots of fun times over there!”

“At the end of the rainbow are…my new Fluevog boots! These were at the top of my ‘most wanted’ list in December’s 10 on the 10th. In mid December, Fluevog had a series of sales of 30% off one style per day. Day 3 was my dream boot day. I gifted these to myself, with the help of two gift cards from Severo that I’d stockpiled. I love them so much! Good buy!”

“I wear this knitted headband ACROSS my forehead when there’s a cold wind ~ to keep the wind off my forehead.  Otherwise I get instant “brain freeze” (which doesn’t go away) migraines. Such a small price to pay for something that’s really important to do if you get migraines!”

“My children have loved Crocs since they were old enough to put shoes on their feet. But I have never ever been on Team Croc myself because I just think they are absolutely hideous. Then suddenly, my 12 year old had bigger feet than me and I slipped his Crocs on to go into the basement. It was the very first time I ever put a Croc on my foot and I couldn’t believe how comfortable they felt on my old tired tootsies. So just before Christmas I had some rewards from Famous Footwear about to expire. I spotted these awful silver Crocs on the clearance rack…where they belong because they truly are ugly…and I bought them for myself for Christmas. And I have to tell you, Crocs are freaking amazing for sore old tired feet. While I likely will never style them with an outfit to wear outside of the house, these Crocs have become my new favorite house shoes!”

My mother-in-law gave me this adorable cowgirl boot Christmas stocking.
Jeff gifted the whole family crazy socks! Mine are the “cock socks”!
And my new socks coordinate brilliantly with my fabulous new rooster brooch.
Up Next for February: Western Boots

You are invited to join us in February to share your favorite (or least favorite) Western Boots. I am thinking cowgirl boots, but any western style boots or shoes will do. Remember you can interpret these themes in whatever ways that suit you. If the shoe fits, share it! Anything will do, we just like to see what you’ve got.

    I still think Crocs are too hideous to grace my feet. Haha.

    You were asking for Good Buy/Goodbye ideas and I thought of something this morning: Glasses/Sunglasses!

    I have never tried Crocs either but they do seem to be quite popular. My middle son got some shoes that look a lot like crocs but without the holes through a kitchen supply company because so many of his culinary friends just loved theirs and now I find he wears them all the time; says they are his comfiest shoes!

      Weren’t Crocs originally intended to be non-slip shoes for kitchens and hospitals and such? I have to go look that up now! Ha. Nope. I was wrong! Maybe I am just remembering Mario Batali wearing them all the time and thought they were chef shoes because of that. I love that your son wears his kitchen shoes all the time!
