The Basics of Wedding Dress Accessorizing
With spring peeking through the clouds and cold, we are getting hints that wedding season is just around the corner. And with Valentine’s Day this weekend, there may be many a wedding proposal already in the works. Many newly engaged brides in the planning process for the big day will soon be scouring the internet for ideas to make the day perfect. And for most, their wedding ensemble is the most important starting point.
You may think that finding the right gown to wear is the end of your wedding day fashion journey, but that is most definitely not the case. Many brides-to-be find themselves seeking accessories that will make their choice of dress even more stunning on the wedding day.
Accessories can elevate your wedding dress, taking it to whole new levels or simply just completing the desired style that reflects the kind of bride and woman you are. With that in mind, below are some tips for choosing the perfect wedding dress accessories.
Veil or No Veil
The most important accessory for many brides is the traditional wedding veil. However, more and more brides are ditching traditional veils and opting for more elaborate hairpieces instead. So how do you choose whether to take the traditional or the more contemporary route when deciding on your wedding hair accessory? If you are a more traditional bride with a classic and elegant style, you may want to keep with that theme and choose a traditional veil. Not only are veils a timeless option for your wedding day, they also add to the romantic feeling of revealing yourself to your groom at the altar. If you are a more unique, modern bride-to-be who does not want to adhere to old traditions, abandon the veil in favor of tiaras, bejeweled hair clips, or even naked hair.
Jewelry
Many brides think that the only rings they should be wearing on their wedding day are their engagement ring and their wedding band. However, you can create a really beautiful maximalist look by wearing additional rings, perhaps on the other hand. One way to really make your wedding outfit sparkle is to wear an additional diamond, one that is as beautiful and bold as your engagement ring, perhaps even an heirloom piece. In fact, it is totally acceptable to showcase an additional engagement ring.
Silver rings tend to coordinate best with white bridal dresses so if you have chosen a white gown, go for Tacori click here. If, however, you have opted for ivory instead of classic white, you may find that gold better complements the yellow undertones of an ivory dress. While mixed metals are currently on trend for jewelry, sometimes sticking in the same metal family creates a more elegant style. Once you have chosen whether you want to wear silver or gold, you can be bold by adding statement earrings, necklaces that accentuate your neckline, and bracelets that sparkle and shimmer as you walk down the aisle.
Flowers
Weddings and flowers go hand in hand but you do not have limit your floral choices exclusively to your venue decor or your bouquet. Flowers can also be utilized for enhancing your wedding dress. A few silk or fresh flowers in your hair or as part of a delicate choker that highlights your neckline will enhance your bridal style with a romantic touch.
Wedges
Sexy stiletto heels might seem like the footwear of choice for many brides on their wedding day, but stilettos can make your feet hurt and fast. Consider wearing a pretty pair of wedges to accessorize your wedding gown. Wedges will give you the same benefit of extra height as heels but with the very important benefit of comfort. If you want your dress to be the focus of attention, choose nude shoes. However, if you have a quirky nature and want to make a statement with your footwear, opt for something more colorful and unique. You could even choose gold or silver shoes to match your jewelry and catch some extra glimmers of light reflecting off of your metallic clad feet.
Shrugs or Wraps
If your wedding day has been scheduled in the colder months, you may want to consider an extra layer to keep your shoulders warm. Shrugs and wraps are available in all sorts of elegant and romantic designs that will complete your wedding day ensemble. The beauty of a shrug is that it will keep your arms and shoulders warm while not covering up your beautiful dress. White faux fur or chiffon styles are a great option for maintaining the charm and splendor of your wedding gown.
What types of accessories would you opt for on your wedding day? Do you prefer to keep things minimally sophisticated or do you prefer adding lots of unique details to your wedding day style?
Happy Accessorizing!

Joanie and I were discussing this on Oscar night, as we critiqued the mostly disappointing Oscar-wear. First of all, both of us are over the strapless craze already. ENOUGH WITH THE STRAPLESS. Especially on busty women. Those of us with boobs know those puppies need assistance to stay up. Who wants to bend down for a hug wondering if anything is gonna escape? Maybe it’s just us, but we don’t like it, and don’t find it flattering on too many women. Personally, I am also over sleeveless, unless it is worn with gloves, ala Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys. Which presents a whole set of problems ring-wise, so that’s not practical. I love your idea of wearing wedge shoes though, and flowers woven into the brides hair. And lace. Tons of lace.

Susan, once again you left me chuckling into my coffee cup as I read your comment. I agree that we big busted women definitely have many more challenges when it comes to styling any type of formal wear. Although I have worn strapless gowns before. As long as they are so tight that I can’t breathe (a problem of its own), they hold the boobs in place just fine! But then I can’t eat anything because there is no room even for air. So there’s that.
