Summer to Fall Transitional Pieces & Your Own Twist Link Up #11
For this month’s Your Own Twist theme, Monica and I are taking our Summer wardrobe pieces into the Fall. Transitioning our clothing between seasons always presents a challenge as we gear up for the change in weather. Retailers and the fashion industry are already firmly planted in Fall styles. Those of us who follow trends suddenly find ourselves drawn to all the pretty autumn things. But it is still a bit too warm for boots and sweaters.
So how do you get the Fall feels without sweating to death? Well, that’s what Monica and I are showing you this month with our own twists on transitioning our clothing from Summer to Fall. Monica’s mom, Ewa of 60 Plus Experience, is joining us once again as our co-host this month, bringing her own twist to the theme as well.
One of my favorite styling tricks for transitioning from Summer to Fall (and from Winter to Spring) is adding tights under my shorts. (Jodie, you know how this trick turns our shorts into 4 season pieces.) I recently added a bunch of different colored tights from Sock Dreams to my wardrobe so I can up my leg game this Fall and Winter. And I have become a fan of tights with clogs for a super fun 70’s inspired vibe.
Sticking with the 70’s vibe, I absolutely fell in love with this patchwork print tank top from Torrid. The colors are not only reminiscent of 1970’s kitchen decor, but they also scream Fall. Enter some ivory open toe clogs from JustFab and it’s a match made in flashback heaven.
I originally had pictured my denim mini skirt with this outfit, but I seem to have misplaced it in my closet room, which is a mess again! I hope I find it before Fall arrives because it is the perfect autumn wardrobe staple. Without my denim skirt, I had to be creative and so opted for shorts. Denim shorts seemed a bit boring and the olive ones coordinated just right.
I completed my vintage inspired outfit with my favorite slouchy hat, a lightweight suede jacket in tan, and fringed backpack in dark brown. I felt very Three’s Company in this outfit and totally ready to celebrate the coming of Fall, my very favorite season of the year!
I love that all three of us chose shades of rusts and oranges for a transition into the new season. That was completely unplanned but totally looks like orange was our theme!
Your Own Twist is a monthly series hosted by Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and myself where we showcase our own interpretations of a chosen style theme. We share the theme with you ahead of time in case you are interested in joining us. Feel free to link your own Summer to Fall outfit ideas at the end of the post. Or add any outfit, style, or fashion post that you’d like! Be sure to check back next month for our Fall Fashion post. Create your own post in the meantime so you can share Your Own Twist.

Fall, as you call it has landed here way too early in the Uk this year Shelbee! I will need a boat soon if it doesn’t stop raining! I did hear that bright coloured tights are going to be a huge trend this year too. Fab look xx

Thanks for stopping by today, Laurie! It looks like Fall is approaching us rather quickly as well. The temperatures are starting to drop although we haven’t been drowning in rain like you have. I hope the sun comes out soon for you!

OMG, what an amazing look! I thought I had tights in all colours, but I haven’t got orange – yet! They look fab, and just gorgeous with the wedges and shorts.

Thanks so much, Karen! You should check out Sock Dreams! They have so many cute tights in literally every possible color. I really like their quality, too. The tights are super soft and they stay in place without rolling too much! And I am not affiliated with them at all. I just have been buying socks and tights from them for almost 10 years and I have never been disappointed.

I’m smitten by the orange tights and the big ol’ sincere smile.
Summer seems to be wrapping up at a faster pace than I’m ready for.
Tell me about your weather this summer Shelbee? Our’s, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, was further evidence of climate change as far as I’m concerned. LOTS of rain in what is typically a quite dry climate.
I try not to dwell on what is, to my mind, THE most concerning issue…
(Your orange tights are a welcome distraction :-))

Jude, thanks so much! I just added about 10 different pairs of tights in new colors for the fall. I am super excited for bright legs! The weather has been quite mild here this summer, but it is always mild here in the summer. It is the winters that bring us extreme weather. As far as climate change, I also try not to dwell on things of this nature because it is too disturbing. I don’t know if it is a topic that I am well versed in though to write too much about it. Perhaps I will do some research and formulate a better opinion to at least sound educated!

I will say I a a little envious that you are having cool weather! Here in NC, it doesn’t get colder until end of Oct, beginning of Nov, so it makes for a bit of a challenge showing Fall clothes! ( Although I have sweated for the sake of the blog before!) Love the colors here and the tights. I need some new patterned ones this year. The chunky heel looks so cute, and 70s, I dig it!

have a great weekend, enjoy the music!

Thanks so much, Jess! While you sweat for the sake of the blog at this time of year, I freeze throughout most of the winter for the sake of the blog! Lol. I do like our milder summers up north. Definitely check out Sock Dreams for a really great selection of fun tights. I have been ordering from them for almost a decade and I love the quality of their products, too. I am not affiliated with them at all. I am just a really happy customer! I hope you have a fantastic weekend. Stay cool, my friend!

What a clever way to give your clothes work for your money, Shelbee. Love your idea of tights under the short and the autumn colours of olive and rust orange work beautifully together. I like how you bravely break the norms, it’s very inspirational
