Styling a Kimono Into the Fall & Link Up On the Edge #59
Are any of you as obsessed with kimonos as I am? I seriously have a problem. At last count, there were 30 kimonos in various prints, solids, and lengths hanging in my closet. And I still cannot resist browsing through the kimonos any time I see them in a store. Oh, and when Charlotte Russe has a $15 kimono sale, forget it, I am in trouble! That’s where I scored this pretty floral one. For a mere $15.
*This is not a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fall is upon us and the temperatures are cooling quickly and drastically. Don’t misunderstand me, I am not complaining. I always prefer the cooler weather over the heat and humidity. But I am not ready to pack in my lightweight airy kimonos for heavier knits and sweaters. So I am going to style them for as long as I can…until I start freezing in my flowy chiffon!
But I do love Fall hues, so of course, I am reaching more frequently for kimonos in autumnal tones and prints. Burgundies, blacks, blushes, and creams are on constant rotation right now. I love the print clash of a dark floral with leopard print for a cool weather feel. Add in a base of olive green and my signature knee high gladiator sandals and this kimono is ready to ride right into September with me.
I am sure I will be layering these sheer garments over long sleeve dresses and long sleeve tees when the temperature drops another 10 or 15 degrees before I decide to pack them away in exchange for my duster cardigans. But until then, this kimono obsession of mine will continue into the Fall. You will probably see a few more on the blog in the next few weeks. I just can’t help myself.

What are your favorite summer wardrobe pieces that you just can’t let go? And how will you carry them into Fall?
Thanks so much for reading! I hope you are all enjoying these final days of summer. This is very much my favorite time of year as the weather cools but not too much. And the sun sets a bit earlier but not too early. The mosquitoes start to disappear so I can enjoy my backyard. And the kids go back to school! Momma will have some freedom in just a few short (maybe long) days!
Now onto your favorite posts from last week’s link up.
Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living shared her post Casual Friday, IG Secret & Link Up Party. First of all, Cheryl always looks so fabulous! I am constantly inspired by her style. Second of all, she is one of the friendliest bloggers in blogland. And I did learn from her about this IG secret! It was something that had me quite confused until I read this post. If you are wondering what I am talking about, you will have to go read it for yourself!
And Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun shared her post LIKEtoKNOW.it Wall in San Francisco (& Link Up). Isn’t she stunning in this blue maxi dress? And I am so completely jealous of this amazing wall in San Francisco! You must hop on over and see her other photos to get the full effect. Another super stylish and friendly blogger, I am a huge fan of Dawn Lucy and her hash tag #fashionshouldbefun. (I seriously use that on every IG post in my feed!)

I love this look on you! I have a few kimonos in my closet, but Summer is my favorite time of year and we wear them into the winter here in SoFla.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Neti, thanks so much! I am going to try to style my kimonos over some long sleeved pieces and see how they look! I am just not ready to give them up. They are the perfect topper piece, I’m sure, for winters in Florida. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

Understand the obsession (I have one too). Have tried layering under a kimono when the weather turns brisk? I see no reason that they can’t be work into your wintery outfits. And I must tell that these photos are so cute, especially the ones where you sitting/laying on the ground. Keep on mixing it up.

Rena, thanks so much for the lovely comment on my photos! My husband is getting really good at this photographer business! The lying down ones were all his idea and I love the way they turned out, too. I think I am definitely going to keep wearing kimonos over long sleeve outfits as the weather gets cooler, but eventually around here, I will have to trade them in for much heavier pieces! Have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks so much, Chanda! I love the colors in it, too. I actually didn’t buy it the first time I saw it because I wasn’t thrilled with the draw string waist, but then I went back and I just couldn’t resist the colors! Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend.

30 kimonos? I thought I was clothes obsessed! But I don’t blame you. I love kimonos too. They look good over so many different things. It’s no wonder fashionable ladies in the 1920s wore them! I’m glad they’ve made a comeback because now there are tons of cute ones to be had.
This one has great fall colors and I love it with the olive green and the touch of leopard.

This is a very pretty kimono and the colors are perfect for fall! It looks great with your olive dress and gladiator sandals. I am in no hurry to put away my kimonos, either. 🙂

Jennie, thank you so very much! And today, I had to put them away because it is just too cold here! I am wearing jeans, long sleeves, and a sweater and I’m still cold. But the kimonos will be back this week as we are expecting temperatures in the low 70’s. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.

So, believe it or not, I haven’t tried kimonos yet. I have a long vest that’s like a sleeveless kimono. Does that count? Yours looks elegant but I feel like if I wore one it would just look like I’m wearing a bathrobe. Anyway, have a wonderful weekend Shelbee!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Julia, I actually have a quite few long vests, too, which I love as well. So yeah, I think they count! You do have to be wary of the cut of some kimonos because they can look bathrobish. Maybe a shorter one would work really well for you! Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.

Hello beautiful. Hope all is well with you and yours. We’re just beginning to return to some semblance of normalcy after a long vacation, sending three to university (broke my heart to leave Eve), and then being hit with Hurricane Harvey. I’m looking forward to better days ahead 🙂 starting with visiting some of my fave blogging ladies xoxo
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Hi gorgeous! It is so good to see you back in action and making your rounds! You and all of Texas have been in my thoughts and I am so glad to hear that you are well. As hard it is was to let Eve go, knowing how beautifully she is going to thrive must bring you some comfort? Plus it gives you more excuses to visit the east coast! Do keep in touch and let me know the next time you are New York-bound!
Hugs to you, Sheela.

It did, it did. As in my heart was bursting with pride even as it mourned. She’s making friends. She seems more confident and poised and happy. Even her step has a pep to it that I hadn’t seen in years. She’s thoroughly enjoying her classes (she’s getting a Masters in Psychology), so yes, I am immensely proud of her, and so very thrilled that she appears to be flourishing.
If it wasn’t for Harvey, I’d have taken you up on your word for next week, my friend. I had every intentions of going for Fashion Week 🙂
Much love,
Sheela
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
She is such a shining star, isn’t it? She is going to flourish in the field of Psychology, too, as she already has such a deeper understanding of the workings of the human mind. You should be so very proud!
If there is anything I can do from here in upstate NY to help with this tough time (all the Harvey mess, etc.), please do let me know. Also, if Eve needs anything from my way, I would be happy to help her out! (Although I am still about 5 hours from where she is). But I will do what I can!
Many hugs,
Shelbee

That’s such a pretty kimono! You look fabulous!
Kimonos are so versatile and really a great way to add a third layer. And since it doesn’t get cold until the end of October around here, they are actually perfect for most of the year. I bought my first kimono last year in Germany and was going to add some more to my wardrobe. For some reason, I still haven’t. I think I’ll have to change that! Yours would be perfect!
Thanks for the link up & I hope you are having a great weekend!
