Songful Style Link Party | “Hello, Goodbye” by The Beatles
I can’t believe we are already four months into this groovy series of music inspired styles. Not only does it offer me an opportunity to approach my wardrobe with an entirely new creative perspective, but it also introduces me to wonderful new music. And music is so very important for so many reasons. Therefore, the people who share new music with us are essential in enriching our journeys on earth.
For this fourth edition of Songful Style, Marsha chose a timeless Beatles classic, “Hello, Goodbye”, and the song has been earworming me all month long! You can find more details about the song, the lyrics, and various album covers to inspire style in my post Songful Style | “Hello, Goodbye”.
About Songful Style
Songful Style is a new ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of The Grey Brunette, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, Michelle of My Bijou Life, Marsha of Marsha in the Middle, and Anne of Spy Girl.
Each month we will share a song with the lyrics and video and we invite you to use whatever aspect of the song that inspires you to create an outfit.
It is similar to Style Imitating Art where we use artwork to inspire our outfit creations. Except Songful Style gives you lyrics, music, video, and album artwork to inspire your fashion creativity. You may even find inspiration in a memory triggered by the selected song. It is all open to your own personal interpretation and just a fun way to discover new music and get a little bit more creative with your wardrobe.
Anyone is welcome to join us on a permanent basis or you can just play along without any obligation to do anything other than feel inspired. We are flexible and fun and just want to find more ways to play dress up because it’s what we enjoy doing!
We will be posting on the last Monday of each month and will announce our song choice for the following month at the end of each post.
The last three songs chosen for this series have included some sort of sartorial reference in the lyrics, making it a bit easier to create an outfit inspired by the song. But Marsha threw me for a loop when she chose a song with no sartorial hints whatsoever. Therefore, I had to approach this style challenge from a different perspective.
I wish I had some kind of top or hat or bag with a “hello” or “goodbye” graphic, but then that would be too easy, wouldn’t it? I do have a few Beatles tee shirts, but again, too easy. Plus I took the easy way when I wore my Stevie Nicks tee shirt for our Leather and Lace challenge. Instead of the easy way, this time I looked to the album covers and the personal style of the band members in 1967 when the song was released.
These three album covers inspired my look…
I knew I wanted to style something with a big, bright, bold hippie print reminiscent of the 1960s, but I didn’t really have anything like that in my closet. Then I went thrifting in search of ballerina outfits for our last Thrifty Six theme where I discovered this fabulous kimono style top on my favorite Zara rack in my local Salvation Army thrift shop.
The colors, the print, and the style are perfect with flared denim and platform boots for a Beatles inspired look circa 1960s. I added necklaces and earrings in shades of orange and red and opted for a middle part and low double braids like a true flower child.
Whether I am saying hello or goodbye, you surely can’t miss seeing me wave in this crazy eye-catching top, which, by the way, also looks super cute over this white dress.
How did I do for this songful challenge?
By the way, today is my birthday! I have been on this earth for 48 years and I am hoping for at least another 48. Cheers to living my best life with no more fucks to give!

The next song for our June 27, 2022, post is “Behind the Wall of Sleep” by the Smithereens chosen by Anne because her amazing partner Severo is a band member! On Wednesday, I will share more details including lyrics, video, and other inspirations that I can find relating to the song. If you are interested in joining us, you are welcome to begin styling now or check back in a few days for additional inspiration relating to the song.

Happy Birthday, beautiful Shelbee!
I would say you totally nailed the 1967 look. You actually look like a Beatles groupie.
Well done, groovy girl!

First off, Happy Birthday!
I love, love, love this outfit! Your top is freaking amazing! What a lucky find. Perfect paired with the flared jeans. That time period is probably my favorites fashion-wise. (And yet I know many probably hated it, the way I am loath to wear neutrals.)

Happy, happy birthday, Shelbee! I hope someone baked you a fabulous cake!! I totally love this look! Your top reminds me of “Laugh In” and Goldie Hawn! The only thing you needed was a flower crown! I really thought this song would be so easy…until I realized I was thinking of the wrong album cover!!! I have to admit I haven’t been able to get the damn song out of my head for the last few weeks!!!

Thanks so much, Marsha! Ooh, I love your Laugh-In reference! I wish I had a flower crown because it would go with so much of my hippie wardrobe. I might need to find one with some decent looking fake flowers! As for cake, Jeff made pineapple upside down cake which is my favorite and what I want every year. And Archie made me brownies which were amazing for his time taking the lead in the kitchen. I was definitely spoiled yesterday!

Great outfit! The colors and print in your shirt definitely echo the psychadelic styles of the 60s and 70s. And your boot-cut jeans are “almost” bell-bottoms (ha-ha).

Thanks so much, Carol! I totally should have worn more bell-bottomy jeans! I have a few pairs with a bigger flare but I think I wore these because they were just the ones I grabbed. Haha. I kind of want a really obnoxious pair of giant bell bottoms though!
