Songful Style Link Party 11 | “Here to Forever” by Death Cab for Cutie
I hope you all had a most wonderful Christmas! It is time for this year’s final Songful Style collaboration with my beautiful band of creative friends. As I mentioned in Friday’s post, we are excited that Michelle has joined us once again for our monthly musical style challenges. Welcome back, my friend!
About Songful Style
Songful Style is a new ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of The Grey Brunette, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, Marsha of Marsha in the Middle, and Michelle of Funky Fashion Style.
Each month we will share a song with the lyrics and video and we invite you to use whatever aspect of the song that inspires you to create an outfit.
It is similar to Style Imitating Art where we use artwork to inspire our outfit creations. Except Songful Style gives you lyrics, music, video, and album artwork to inspire your fashion creativity. You may even find inspiration in a memory triggered by the selected song. It is all open to your own personal interpretation and just a fun way to discover new music and get a little bit more creative with your wardrobe.
Anyone is welcome to join us on a permanent basis or you can just play along without any obligation to do anything other than feel inspired. We are flexible and fun and just want to find more ways to play dress up because it’s what we enjoy doing!
We will be posting on the last Monday of each month and will announce our song choice for the following month at the end of each post.
Be sure to check out my fabulous friends and how they have interpreted this song into style…just click their blog links for more songful style inspiration!

It was Marsha’s song pick this month and what a fun choice it was! So let’s get right to it…my sartorial interpretation of Death Cab for Cutie’s “Here to Forever”.
My outfit was almost completely inspired by the female employee in the video played by comedienne Natalie Palamides. I was immediately drawn to her cool 90s style in baggy high waisted jeans, white tee shirt, black sneakers, and an oversized cardigan.
I used things in my closet that were similar enough to her outfit to create my own version of this 90s throwback style. Baggy jeans and a white tee shirt are staples in most closets and it is a combination that makes the perfect foundation for just about any style aesthetic. So that was an obvious starting point for building an outfit. I do not own a chunky oversized cardigan in the colors or funky floral pattern of the really adorable one she is wearing, so I went for this super soft and cozy light green cardigan with a dandelion print.
She appears to be wearing black Keds but I never was much of a Keds girl. I have always been more into the vibes of Converse or Vans and these classic black Vans with a black and white checkerboard pattern are the perfect way to represent the 90s sound of this song made modern for 2022. Of course, I completed my look with double pigtails just like my muse.
I mentioned that my outfit was almost completely inspired by the character in the video. But there is one element that was inspired by a lyric from the song. The addition of my bright purple coat was inspired by this lyric…
"And when the color is too bold and bright I'm daydreaming in black and white”
I figured a bold and bright coat paired with black and white shoes was a creative way to interpret that particular lyric. Plus it brings in a bit of the song as well.
I was debating ditching these oversized jeans but then I ended up loving this comfy casual look. However, I definitely need to wear tights or leggings under these jeans if I am going to wear them in the winter. I was so incredibly cold outside with all that bared skin on my legs!
And that is all I have for you today, a simple outfit post with a bit of music to energize your soul. Stay stylish, my friends, and remember to always dance when the music moves you.

Ooh! Now, I’m going to have to check the video again to see the woman who inspired this outfit! What an amazing 90’s vibe you;ve created. (I’ll admit my first thought upon seeing this is that you have got to be freezing with those bare knees!) Love the Vans with the checkerboard. The vivid purple coat is amazing and perfect for the song line.
And thanks so much for the shout out, my friend!

Thanks so much, Michelle! Yes, ripped jeans do not work for winters here! I could layer some tights underneath, but then here is so much bulk. I will just sick with my fleece lined leggings until it gets warm enough for exposed skin! I am so glad that you are back with our little songful group!

Your True Self
Hi, Shelbee – Death Cab for Cutie is an all-time favorite band of mine. I’m linking a futuristic style post instead of a past style from a time when everyone is now dead. Wish I had a band tee! Thanks for sharing this – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Angie! So many of you love this band and so I am still siting here baffled that I had not heard of them before now! I want to go see Death Cab for Cutie now and if I do I will definitely get myself a band tee!

Oh, I love, love, love this!!! I was hoping someone would do something with those two women! They stole the show for me! They’re so lovably goofy and so sorta fashionable! Your sweater is awesome just as a sweater! But, then you add in those jeans and the Converse, and you’ve just gone and created magic! Love it, Shelbee!
I hope you had an amazing Christmas!

Aw, Marsha, thanks so much! Those girls cracked me up, too. And they definitely made the video worth watching! I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this outfit once I had it on! I had intended to wear it all day, but my legs were just too darn cold. But I will definitely wear this again once it gets a little warmer. We did have a lovely Christmas as snowed in and very peaceful and quiet. Except I came down with some awful virus that laid me down all day yesterday! I hope you had an amazing holiday as well, my friend.

Nancy
That’s a good interpretation! And I love those baggy jeans. I recently bought two pairs of those! I can imagine you were cold there! I how everything is okay at your town. My sister in law, who is senior purser at KLM, came yesterday straight from your area and did that it was so cold.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Nancy! I liked these jeans so much that I bought them in 3 different washes…light denim, medium denim, and black. But I bought them too big so I have to really cinch them tight with a belt! And yes, it has been rather cold here the past week or so but it is supposed to warm up at the end of the week and melt everything. Hopefully, without flooding!

Shelbee, you absolutely nailed it! I was clearly not in full creative mode with this song because I didn’t pick up on any of the things you mentioned!! The 90s vibe, black and white, colour! OMG I feel very dim right now lol. You look fabulous with it too…I adore your purple coat, it’s stunning! The photos, not to mention the setting, are simply gorgeous. I bet you were cold though! It’s been so warm during the day here these past few days. Yesterday it was almost like a summer’s day.
Have a wonderful rest of the festive season. Big hugs xxx
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Suzy, thanks so much! I really was tickled with how this outfit came together! But I was freezing. This outfit is more suited for early spring and late fall not in the middle of blizzard season! Speaking of that, it started snowing on Friday morning and didn’t stop until Tuesday afternoon. We are completely buried and now a warm spell is coming so let the flooding begin! I think you did a wonderful job creating an outfit for this song. I love the whole look and would definitely wear something similar myself. I hope you have a blessed New Year, my friend.

You suit the high waist jeans Shelbee and that purple coat is super. I never wear this shade, just don’t think it suits me. Maybe I’m wrong as we have the same colouring. Jacqui x

Thanks so much, Jacqui! Yes, we do have very similar coloring and wear a lot of the same shades. Maybe you should give this shade of purple a try! It may surprise you!
