SIA Gallery of Style | “Gosh! Do I Look as Old as All That!” by Dr. Seuss

It is time for the next SIA Gallery of Style, featuring outfits inspired my latest pick of artwork. Thank you so much for joining us!

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarShelbee, and Marsha on Instagram or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The Inspiration Artwork

I chose this particular piece in celebration of my upcoming 50th birthday and because I adore Dr. Seuss. You can read more about that here.

The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.

Sally took her inspiration from the pink and blue color scheme and the “old” concept to create an outfit from some older pieces in my closet, dating from 2013 to 2020. I absolutely love this shade of pink on Sally and the dark floral is so good for this painting. Beautiful outfit combination!

Marsha knew right away that she would wear this kimono because the pinks and different prints give the impression of feathers. But, she found it challenging to bring in the dark blue that dominates the art. Until she was flipping through her dresses and rediscovered this beautiful blue crinkled silk dress which was the exact perfect finishing touch! Combined with her gorgeous kimono and those wonderfully artsy sandals, Marsha created a lovely bohemian outfit that I would wear any day!

Salazar also found this painting a bit challenging to style. While she was able to interpret the darker colors in the painting with ease, she struggled with the mix of dark navy and light pink. Until she remembered this fun blue and pink plaid button up which is a perfect representation of the painting’s color palette. She paired the shirt with a navy skirt that has cut-out embroideries along the hem to reflect the feathery strokes in the painting. And the cut-outs on her adorable shoes are a nod to that as well. This outfit makes me smile so big!
And Me!
white satin slip skirt, thrifted style, red cowgirl boots, patterned kimono robe, boho style, white fedora, Shelbee on the Edge
I recently picked up this preloved skirt for a Thrifty Six post and realized that the peacock feather print was perfect for this artwork. So I restyled it with a colorful kimono robe with a print that resembles some of the shapes and brush work of the painting. I added feather earrings because they best represent the old birdwoman. And now I am ready to be fabulously 50 in 8 days!

I hope you have enjoyed these colorful outfits we have created inspired by this Dr. Seuss painting. If you would like to try one of our art inspired style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, May 27, 2024, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose the artwork.

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee
