SIA Gallery of Style | Feeding in the Light by Jerry Garcia
About Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.
You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag Salazar, Terri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!
The Inspiration Artwork
You can read why I chose this specific piece as my inspiration artwork here.
Feeding in the Light by Jerry Garcia (Lithograph on paper, 1991)
The Gallery of Style (in random order)
Thanks so much to everyone who joined us for this round of Style Imitating Art.
Suzy of The Grey Brunette
Suzy is trying to beat the heat in this beautiful brightly colored sarong/scarf turned into a wrap dress/coverup. It is absolutely perfect for this painting!
Reni of Reni’s Odds and Sods
When Reni saw the painting, she instantly thought of this colorful dress with a big, bold watercolor floral print that is absolutely spot on for the painting.
Sally of Within a World of My Own
Sally says, “This inspiration painting called for a print mix in stripes and tie dye with fish motif jewelry!” I agree with her completely! How fabulous is this colorful mix of stripes and tie dye? And the fish jewelry makes me smile so big!
The Co-Hosts
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey
While Salazar struggled a bit with this challenge because she lacks an abundance of bright colors in her wardrobe, she managed to put together an adorable look with some creative styling. She layered a yellow skirt over her vibrant plaid dress and then accessorized with green tassel shoes because the tassels “look like the green creature in the painting (an octopus?)”. She also added her crab pins because Salazar has a brooch for every theme, I think! I love this look on her!
Terri of MeadowTree Style
When Terri saw the inspiration work for this challenge, she instantly thought of her gorgeous Trina Turk top with a colorful swirly print and ruffles that reflect all the movement and relaxed feel of the painting. She says, “I feel that it has the same joyful vibe as the watercolor.” Indeed, it does. What a fabulous summer outfit!
And Me!
I combined thrifted tie dye and teal lace with shell jewelry and fish earrings to create a bohemian festival vibe in what I think would be a Jerry-approved outfit!
That is the end of this Jerry Garcia edition of the SIA Gallery of Style. Thanks so much to everyone who joined for this cheerful styling challenge.
*If you have submitted a photo and it was not included, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle.
Also be sure to stop back on Monday, August 1, 2022, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose.
Keeping it on the edge,

I’ve been to several dead shows when they were still around. I enjoyed learning a little more about Gerry. I had seen his ties but didn’t know much about his art background. Thanks for keeping it fun. Have an amazing day 🙂
