SIA Gallery of Style | Doña Maclovia Zamora by Nani Chacon
It is time for my favorite part of Style Imitating Art…the Gallery of Style!
About Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.
You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag Salazar, Shelbee, and Marsha on Instagram or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!
The Artwork

The Gallery of Style
Just the three co-hosts have participated in this round. The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. That being said, we would love to see more participants join us for our fun style challenges. Anyone is welcome to play along. Just watch for our Monday posts when we share the artwork, style an outfit inspired by it, and email it to one of the co-hosts to be featured in our gallery posts. We encourage you to invite your friends, too!
You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey
Salazar has a collection of embroidered tops to choose from but none of them is in the was in either of the two dominant colors in the mural. So she chose the top whose embroidery most closely resembled one of the flowers on the mural and paired it with a tan skirt and brown clogs as a nod to the wall. Salazar also wore a gold locket similar to the one Doña Maclovia is wearing in the mural. This is such a beautiful outfit in its simplicity and the embroidery is perfection. Great job, Salazar!
Marsha of Marsha in the Middle
Although Marsha struggled a bit with this challenge, I think she created a lovely outfit inspired by this mural. She focused on the dominant colors of blue and rust. However, she was lacking rust colors in her wardrobe so she opted for a beautiful caramel colored floral print skirt with a dark blue denim shirt and lots of faux turquoise jewelry. I love this sartorial interpretation. Well done, Marsha!
And Me!
I also focused on the dominant colors of blue and rust and landed on a caramel colored robe with a floral print layered over a deep blue sundress. I added additional floral details with my jewelry and boots. I really like how similar yet different my outfit is compared to Marsha’s caramel and denim combination. So fun!
I hope you all have enjoyed this round of Style Imitating Art as much as I have. If you would like to try one of these style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, August 4, 2025, for Salazar’s choice of our next art inspiration.
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee
