Restyling My Blossom-Inspired Outfit & Link Up On the Edge #206
“Real style is never right or wrong, it’s a matter of being yourself on purpose.”
G. Bruce Boyer
In my post on Tuesday, I shared an outfit that nostalgically reminded me of a favorite childhood sitcom character, Blossom Russo. Today I am sharing an easy restyle of that same outfit which is perfect for transitioning into back to school and fall styles.
I know it is still super hot and humid in most places in the United States, but it is that time of year when we can at least begin to think about what kind of autumn fashions we might be wanting to try.
And y’all know how much I love my tights. As soon as it gets cool enough to start wearing them, I will be showcasing my colorful legs once again! My summertime translucently pale legs are not as fun to show off as are my vibrantly colorful, smooth, hosiery clad gams.
For this restyle, everything is the same except I switched out the dress as a jacket for a navy blue lace up sweater and I traded my sodalite pendant necklace for a paisley neckerchief. And it was a super easy way to create an entirely different outfit.
Wearing tights is also a great way to get additional wear out of your summertime wardrobe. Wear them with shorts or with summer dresses to keep your legs protected from the cool air as the seasons change. There are so many wonderful layering techniques that you can use if you are not ready to put away your summer clothes when fall begins to arrive. All you have to do is think outside the box and try some nontraditional ways of styling your favorite pieces.
“Create your own visual style. Let it be unique for yourself yet identifiable for others.”
Orson Wells
Are you ready for transitioning away from your summer wardrobe? I usually am by mid-August. But this year, I feel kind of like I missed out on summer and have so many more cute things to show you! But I do have an entire lifetime to wear all the cute things, so stay tuned!
“Be faithful to your own taste because nothing you really like is ever out of style.”

I don’t know if I’m ready for fall yet. I love the different take you did on your Blossom inspiration. The scarf and hat are so chic! Thanks for the link up!

Thanks so much, Kathrine! I definitely am not ready for fall yet either. But then again, I feel as if none of us were ready for anything that this year has brought us! Have a great weekend!

I like this look! Not that i will wear my tights soon, I hope, but wearing shorts in cooler days….it’s a idea. However it can never look as good on me as it does on you!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Nancy, thanks so much! I won’t be wearing tights probably another month either. You have amazing legs so I am certain that you would look fabulous in colorful tights! Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks so much, Jill! These restyles are fun to share! I almost always end up changing some part of my outfits throughout the day, but I rarely ever photograph the change because I am usually a hot mess by that time. This was fun to show the minor changes that I do make to be more comfortable. Have a great weekend!

I love jean shorts with tights so much! They really are great for pale legs lol! but so stylish as well. Looking great:) xx
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Lucy! I have been wearing tights with my shorts since the 80’s and I have never stopped! I love the pairing so much. It is cute and edgy and totally hides any kind of leg blemishes (like the patch of eczema on my left skin that lasted for nearly two years)! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

This is so so cute & definitely invokes the spirit of Blossom! The tights are one of the only places where you & I diverge. While I think they look fabulous I absolutely HATE wearing them…lol! I feel like I’m trapped in a sausage casing…lol! xo

Thanks so much, Debbie! I have to be honest, I don’t find tights to be all that comfortable either and I really, really hate the smell of all the spandex and lycra! That grosses me out. But I feel so confident when I wear them that I can get past the other stuff. But….I also don’t feel trapped in sausage casing like you do! I only feel a case amount of “these are not the most comfortable things ever but they aren’t terrible either.” Haha. Have a great weekend, my friend!

This is such a cute transitional outfit on you! The hat adds so much personality. I don’t feel like I am ready for fall this year and want to hold on the summer as long as possible!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Di! I love wearing hats! And I am not ready for fall yet either, but I ran out of outfit photos! Haha. And it is nearing that time of year, so I figured what the heck. Have a great weekend!

you are making me want the FALL!!! it’s going to be 107F today and I am tired of the heat….
xo eva
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Oh my word, Eva! That is much too hot! It seems to want to hang in the 80’s here. I am not complaining although even that is too hot for me. I will be in full fall clothing probably in another month though. Have a great weekend and stay cool!

Lauren Renee Sparks
It will probably be at least 3 months until I can comfortably wear tights in Texas. ha!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
I believe that! I can’t really wear them here yet either. Probably by mid-September though I will start wearing more fall clothing. Have a great weekend, Lauren!

Really nice transition outfit! Such a pretty scarf. You like your tights the way I like my leggings. 😀 Fall clothing is still a ways off here. More like mid-October.

Thanks, Michelle! I do love my tights way more than leggings! Although I am reigniting my leggings love recently. It’s not fall weather here yet either, but it will be long before mid-October! Have a great weekend, my friend.

Love this one even better! Really cute! Can’t wait to see all your fun tights again but enjoy the warmth for now!
http://www.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Mireille, thanks so much! This version was much more comfortable than the first one. The dress is a bit tight across the shoulders and way too small in the bust which is why I wore it as a jacket. I suppose the embroidered dress may end up on Poshmark as well. And I am not ready for tights weather yet either, but it was fun to throw a couple of tights outfits into the summer mix! Have a great weekend.

Darlene
I always admire how you style your outfits with tights. So late last winter, I bought some in cool colors, like mustard, plum, bright blue, and plaid–and then never got to play with them! I definitely will this fall to keep up with you, my friend! Thanks for the inspo. Love the quotes–remind me of Iris Apfel!!
xx Darlene
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Darlene! I hope you do get a chance to play around with your fun colorful tights this year! I look forward to seeing how you style them. And the quotes do have a bit of an Iris vibe, don’t they?! Have a great weekend, my friend.

ratnamurti
What a fantastic look!!! Love it!!! And all of your quotes about style. I sometimes wonder where my sense of style went. (sigh)
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Ratnamurti, thanks so much! I bet your sense of style is just hiding inside your closet somewhere waiting to be rediscovered. It only takes a little creativity to get it back, I think. Try to wear something a little wild today and see what happens! Have a wonderful weekend.

I love all the fun layering you are doing here! The 90s was such fun fashion!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Laura! OMG, 90’s fashion was so much fun! I was young and skinny back then and could wear just about anything and it all looked good. Except my hair. I had bad hair in the 90’s! Haha. Have a fabulous weekend!

Grace
I’m getting excited for fall fashion, too! And I LOVE tights, I really want to expand my collection. I’ve been wanting to try layering tights under shorts but I don’t own any “winter” shorts. I think tights would look funny under my lightweight summer shorts. And I just rewatched an old episode of What Not to Wear featuring the actress who plays Blossom! Have you seen the episode? She is so cute.
Miles of smiles,
Grace

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Grace! First, I think the Blossom episode of What Not To Wear is my favorite one of all time! She is so cool and quirky. And I love how she refused to take the WNTW credit card and insisted on paying for everything herself! Second, you would look so cute styling tights with shorts! And I think you can wear them under lighter weight summer shorts the same way you can wear tights under lightweight summer dresses to transition them into fall. I say try it and see! I have found the best colorful tights from Sock Dreams and Amazon. And if you want to make the investment, Sheertex tights are amazing! Have a great weekend, my friend.

Maureen
Such a cute outfit Shelbee. I love that you added tights into the mix! I forget at how much of a staple they are because I don’t wear shorts enough. But with your outfit you have just inspired me that it’s possible to rock shorts. I will have to try this shorts and tights combo soon! I hope your weekend is going well so far and happy Sunday!
Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Maureen! I think you would look so cute in shorts with tights! It is a fun way to keep interesting layers going in the cooler weather. But when do you even get cooler weather where you live?! I hope your week is off to a great start, my friend.
