Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Nautical & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #225

For this month’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, Nancy and I have chosen Nautical as the theme. Since June really kicks off the summertime in the northern hemisphere, we thought it would be fun to share any of your favorite (or least favorite) outfits or wardrobe pieces that feature aquatic or maritime themes, anything that makes you feel like you are soaking in the warm sunshine near the sea. And while these types of prints do have a more summery feel, we don’t want to leave out our friends in the southern hemisphere either. Lots of maritime towns are in very cold climates so style this theme in whatever way suits you.

Examples of nautical style that come to mind include anchor, sailboat, seashell, and aquatic animal prints, Breton stripes, sailor dresses and pants, brass buttoned blazers, crisp white linens, yellow slickers, fishermen or cable knit sweaters, and deck shoes. A classic combination of navy and white boasts maritime influence as well, but other bold colors like red, orange, yellow, green, and turquoise placed in contrast against bright white are also having a moment in nautical trends. If you are struggling with ideas of what would be considered nautical, this article is really helpful. Please feel free to interpret the theme as loosely as you’d like.

What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?

It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month. Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to. You do not have to be a blogger to join. Anyone is welcome. We will give you the theme for the next month in each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month. So please join us for June by sending some photos and descriptions of your favorite Nautical styles to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com by June 10, 2021. You are welcome to submit more than one photo if you would like features on both of our blogs.

Like last month’s tulle theme, I once again do not have a lot of nautical styles in my wardrobe. But I am going to dive into the archives and see what resurfaces. (See what I did there?)

Seersucker is an inherently nautical fabric. Although it is also sometimes called a railroad stripe, seersucker blazers were once referred to as nautical blazers.

Of course, an outfit inspired by water would classify as a nautical themed style complete with seashell accessories.

Or aquatic birds like swans might work.

Sailboat prints combined with blue and white stripes gives a decent maritime feel as well.

Cable knit sweaters are always reminiscent of fishermen and other sea-faring people.

Neutral colors in lightweight fabrics also provide a nice nautical feel.

And if you are feeling bold, you can always submit photos of your fabulous self in your favorite swim wear!

That is all I have found going back through two complete years of outfit photos. I am going to keep digging and share some really old ones for the official post this month, which will be on Wednesday, June 16, a day later than usual due to some scheduling conflicts.
